Kinda waiting to see if DT launch draws me in. Really haven't felt the hype for the expansion.

You know that old saying? "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Here's the thing. I appreciate most of the upscaling; the hair, the clothing, even smoothing of some rough edges on features. Fingers and toes are also great.

The eyes. The lifeless eyes, though. The way Qir lost the eyelash feathering and now has this apathetic stare, are what I'm most disappointed in. I actually really liked the original iris for the viera; it saturated the hue of your choosing well, the catchlight was expressive and the natural limbal ring was blended nicely.

I'm not even gonna talk about Nami, cause that comparison speaks for itself—It's bad.

I gotta get some photos put together, but I'm not quite as excited for the graphic update as I was before.

Seeing more neck seams, more porous/pocking textures on faces. Let's not even get started on the lifeless eyes. Lots of lip shape alterations, too.

I was also hoping miqo'te males would get their facial markings more cleaned up and crisped. But they're still pretty rough overall.

I do feel like viera got downgraded in some ways, mainly in and around the eyes. But the overall youthfulness of their features feels dulled to me. Like the buns lost some sleep over this.

So about the benchmark...

Something incredibly funny that folks over on Twitter have discovered is that if you set your computer's date to 1st April, Meteor will... change somewhat.

Looking a little more gentlemanly than usual, Meteor.

Apparently he can get pretty damn blocky too, so make sure to check your hardware if you can count his polygons.

Hookay!

So, with my tenuous "return" to XIV this month (and hopefully for more to come), I wanted to try starting a bit fresher overall.

For a long while, I had this love/hate relationship with using "tools" in-game—mostly for photoshoots and to help achieve closer characterizations of how I imagined my ocs. Moving forward, I decided I'd be going vanilla bean! For a few reasons, none really all that important—the biggest being my sheer laziness. That does mean, however, that my activity will shift to @brambles-n-biscuits since that's my in-game avatar. I imagine I'll sometimes Fanta (...I always hear the song) when I get an itch to run around and see someone else from the roster, which is when I'd post some content on the blogs for them. With all that said, I'll see you guys over at Qirin's place for RP shenanigans and interactions!

FFXIV has had so many updates and changes over the years you sometimes forget about the absolute bullshit that was taken in stride and rolled with back in the day, like for instance:

minions and chocobos couldn't originally be summoned at the same time

chocobos counted as full party members and took up slots that were meant for real actual people

summoner and scholar pets could take and hold aggro, they were also vulnerable to aoe damage and in rare instances could get killed by ult mechanics

there was a limit to how much chocobo barding you could have unlocked, so you had to be sparing with what sets you wanted
