A Stroll Through The Park || Open
It had been two weeks since Matthew and his sister settled in Herrington. Their mother’s hometown was quiet but also quite lovely much like Hertford. Yet what Herrington had that his hometown didn’t was the ocean breeze. There was no doubt he was slightly frighten by water after everything that had happened a year ago, but he couldn’t stop loving the smell of the sea water as he walked out the house some days. And the sight of the ocean from his window from a distance was beyond gorgeous. No wonder many people were flocking to Herrington.
Placing his hands behind his back, Matthew continued his stroll in Juliet Park on this lovely late Spring afternoon. It was getting quite warm out and Matthew knew that in a couple of days he would have to worry about finding a way to buy his sister some summer maternity dresses without raising any suspicion. There was so much running through his head that he barely even realized he walked right into someone.
“Pardon me, I’m so sorry for that.” he chuckled nervously and gave a quick bow. “It would seem like I was too distracted by the beauty of this park that I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going. I hope I did not hurt you in anyway.”
It was such a lovely day that Catherine had gone out with her friends. Later Priscilla remembered that there was errands that had to be run so, after having a little moment for herself, she set out to get everything that her parents wanted. Instead of walking back through all the busy streets, she decided to walk through Juliet Park which she always enjoyed greatly. One of the bags almost slipped which caused her to not pay attention here she was going. Cilla felt the impact before she realized what actually happened when she heard a deep male voice, she looked up. Her heart started to beat faster but she had had a lot of practice now so she relaxed her shoulders and calmed her voice. “It is not your fault, I was not paying attention to where I was going.” She managed a small smile and a nod at his true words. “The park is very beautiful, especially at this time of the year.”
Beautiful day || Isidora & Open
She had taken her time walking across the courtyard, a few distance from her house, in the accompany of one of her family friends. Being as the woman could not travel alone, she took up the small quiet space, even if there had been a few people passing by. Sometimes the silence was better, the scenery tends to speak for itself. However if someone were to approach her, she wouldn’t mind engaging in activity, Isidora was friendly to all that she interacted with, in fact, interacting with new people was the best part of her day. It meant she could get to know someone else. Taking a seat, she watched the small fountain, where the birds bathed in, listening to them chirp, hearing footsteps approach, she turned her head to the side. “Hello” she spoke with a smile.
Priscilla had been sitting on the ledge of the fountain already. She loved watching animals and taking care of them. In this case she was admiring the birds, their bright colours and the way they washed themselves. Cilla got up and continued to walk around. As she did, she neared a young woman with the same dark colour of hair like she had. She wore the colour very well. Before she could look away, the woman had turned to her and greeted her. “Oh-h... Good day.” She said, with a small smile. She seemed quite nice. “H-How are you?”
Once again, Arabella was on delivery duty, though this time when she approached the door, no one answered. It was the Nott household, and having known the family for quite some time, when she heard someone moving around back, Arabella thought nothing of trying to get their attention. “Excuse me?” she called as she began to walk around back, “I’ve got your delivery! I could drop it off here or come back later if you prefer?” She was surprised when she came face to face with Priscilla Nott. She knew well what had happened to the woman and why she very rarely came out. “Miss Nott!” She smiled warmly. “I didn’t know you were out today. It’s good to see you.”
Priscilla wasn’t quite used to all kinds of people yet but Arabella was someone she had run into quiet a bit the past few years. She delivered packages and letters and such. She came to know her quite a bit and was now a familiar figure. It was still unusual for her to be outside, that much she could read on Arabella’s facial expression. “Good day, Miss Langley.” She replied wit a small, shy smile. “Yes, I decided to take a stroll. I thought it was about time for me to get out.” She reached out and opened her arms. “Here, I shall take that and just pop it inside. I am sure that it is for my parents.” She replied, her pale blue eyes meeting hers.
On their way back from town Catherine and her mother ran into some neighbours. Although she was generally very social, they had been at the shops for quite a while and after about ten minutes of chatter, she could feel her feet start to ache. Offering quickly to take their purchases back to the house (they were only a little way up the lane) she excused herself politely and soon she could see her home. It was a warm, pleasant day and Catherine had a mind to sit in the garden and finish a sketch she’d started earlier. She smiled at the thought. Yes, that would be a calming end the the day’s activities.
As she entered the garden, turning the corner around the house, she felt a twig snap under her boot and a gasp from the garden. Before she even spoke, she knew who it was. “It’s just me! Cillia, it’s just me.” Kicking herself mentally, she hurried over as fast as her skirts would allow and reached out to gently touch her sister’s hand. “I should have called out, I’m sorry.” Usually, if Catherine saw her sister, she would make her aware of her presence so that this sort of thing wouldn’t happen. Priscilla was understandably very jumpy and Catherine hated causing her shocks.
Cilla felt her heartbeat slow down as soon as she saw that it was her sister. “Kitty! You need to stop giving me a heart attack like that!” She said, giving her sister a stern look. She couldn’t be angry for long at her younger sister, her facial expressions already softening. It was always good to spend time with her sister. If it hadn’t been for Catherine, she would still only be a shell like she had been all those years ago. Her younger sister helped her pick up the pieces and encouraged her to go out again and to trust. Slowly but surely it was rubbing off but sudden movements and not seeing someone’s face still scared her.
Priscilla moved her long plait over her shoulder so it hung between her shoulder blades. Her dark, black hair contrasted greatly with her pale eyes. As dark as a night sky and as pale as moonlight. “What have you been up to, sister dearest?”
Cilla walked through the back of her parents’ garden. The flowers were in ful bloom and so beautiful and the sunlight filtered so beautifully through the leaves, warming her face. She loved being outside, it was her most favourite place to be. The outside air was so fresh, she remembered when she had her hair down and the way the wind felt through it. She just didn’t feel comfortable anymore like that. A snap of a twig made her turn around sharply as her eyes darted around. “Hello? Who is there? Show yourself, please.” She asked, trying not to let her fear shine through in her voice.

Cecilia shrugged, “I am getting used to them. I still feel like a fish out of water when I attend them, but I suppose I am making progress. I can see how enjoyable they can be.” She tilted her head at the other, confused when she noticed the wince. “Forgive me, but I cannot see anything about you that might make people want to stare. You seem as though you would fit into society here very well. There is nothing about you that I can see that would make you stand out or have people desire staring at you.”
Cillia smiled at her as she nodded at her words. They felt very familiar. “Will you most likely be attending many more?” She asked as she looked at the whirling couples in front of her. “I guess that they are fun for most.” She replied with a kind smile. She didn’t have a lot of experience with them so she really wasn’t one to judge. “I try to fit in, though one can not erase one’s past.” Cillia replied, a little tightly. Thinking about what had happened and how it influenced her life afterwards, was something she didn’t like to talk to anyone about. “I believe we haven’t met before, I am Miss Nott.” She replied, curtsying.
Lavinia had just finished talking to her uncle before they both parted ways to enjoy the ball by themselves. With her uncle knowing so many of the older attendees at the ball, Lavinia decided to take some time for herself and watch people dance. She was so engrossed in watching she hardly was prepared when someone walked into her causing her to lose her focus and stumble a little. “Oh it’s quite alright.” she said getting her footing back. She was sure if Johnathan was here, he would laugh at Lavinia. She looked at the person and smiled seeing who it was. “Well Miss Nott. It’s rare to see you out and about these days! I’m very happy to see you here tonight. You look quite lovely.”
Cillia blushed as she noticed that the woman had been paying attention to something else entirely. She lifted her arms out just to make sure that she could get up easily as that no one else would knock into her again. Cillia managed a small smile as she saw who it was. “Miss Webb, it is nice to see you.” She let her smile grow a bit as she listened to the other woman talk. “My parents let me out of the house to accompany my sister here.” Her blush came back at the compliment. “ Thank you, Miss. You look very lovely too. Have you already danced yet?” She asked, motioning to the dancers in front of them.
Standing, like a statue, James was probably asking to be face planted by someone eventually. Though he had thought that avoiding the main areas would save him a little from awkward social contact, clearly god had a different idea. He barely budged from the nudge, blinking and glancing over to the small creature that had caused the minor upset. For a moment he didn’t know what to say, his eyes going a little wide before settling in their usual (though not purposeful) intense gaze. She was…well, she looked quite the lady If he was allowed to still think such things. The baron wasn’t a sensual person by any means, but he was still a man, and men appreciated beauty when they see it.
His steely blue pupils dilated as they looked into the stranger’s, both of them stood awkwardly, her apology drifted between them but not quite making it to James’ ears. He was too distracted. Eventually he managed to regain control of his throat and managed to murmur gently. “I’m sorry for being the way. Standing here. It’s rather more my fault. I don’t…don’t worry my lady. If you are one. I mean you look like a lady but you coul…that’s not. Hm. Ho.”
He took a breath and managed a faint smile. “It’s alright, to be honest, I was probably going to do the same to someone anyone. I’m not exactly perceptive. You’re not hurt are you? I am…was…a physician.”
Cillia felt the usual uncomfortable turn of her stomach when she saw that she bumped into a stranger and a man. His dark hair was neatly trimmed and his cravat was tied like it was the fashion to, though he wore it a lot better than most of the men. As she looked his face over to see if she recognised him from somewhere. Most people she didn’t know anymore because of her parents keeping her close and rather sheltered from people, in this case she didn’t think she’d ever met him. Her bright eyes looked up as she slowly blinked, trying to understand what he was saying. A small smile slipped on her lips as she looked up at him with curiosity.
“It is quite alright.” She said, shortly. Cillia wondered why he seemed so flustered or why he couldn’t manage to get the words out. It had been some time since she’d met a man who actually didn’t make her want to run a mile. Her dark locks were neatly pinned up and contrasted greatly with her pale eyes. “It does happen a lot to me too.” She answered, quietly. Cillia shook her head. “No, I am not hurt but thank you for asking.”
Margaret smiled at her choice, she was assured of her intuition, never engaging for too long with someon she did not deem worth her time, “May I enqire why? There are not many in my aquaintance who chose not to dance” She offered her a kind smile, as she sough to answer her question, “I do, very much, but I often struggle to find an adiquate partner. I am too picky I am affraid.”
Cillia cast her eyes down as the other woman asked her the question. She seemed very polite and kind which made her want to talk to her. She wasn’t quite used to the social aspect of balls yet. “Oh, well… I have never been to a ball really before and it has been a long time since I’ve danced with anyone.” She smiled as she listened to the other woman. “Is that so? Do you dance a lot?”
Andrew took note of Miss Nott’s response. His many years at sea watching over the men in his command gave him a sharp eye, especially when it came to a persons body language. Clearly, the young woman was extremely uncomfortable, however the source of her discomfort eluded him. The name did ring a bell, something was familiar to him. That being said, he was not very well versed in the families of Herrington.
‘Miss Nott. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance’ he replied, keeping his smile trying to assuage the woman’s unease.
‘I apologise if have over stepped my mark, I did not mean to cause you any discomfort.’ He cast his eyes around briefly, looking out for anyone watching the conversation
‘Did you come alone this evening? Perhaps we can find you some different company, other than my dry self’ He laughed softly at his own joke.
Her bright blue eyes settled on the man as she assessed him. He wasn’t familiar to her but she didn’t know a lot of people in the town. She tried to settle herself as she calmed herself down. He was just being polite and he just wants to talk, she kept chanting to herself. A small smile spread on her lips as she nodded in reply. “The feeling is mutual. It was not you, sir. It was my fault.” She replied, politely. Cillia shook her head, “I came with my younger sister. It is quite alright, sir.” She replied with a small smile. “Did you come along with anyone?” She asked.

At the sound of a voice, Cecilia’s head jerked in it’s direction. She hadn’t realized that someone was with her. She believed herself to be alone while everyone else was either conversing or dancing. Her gaze was met with the sight of a shy looking brunette who seemed even more anxious about the ball than Cecilia was.
“You do not seem pleased to be here,” she observed quietly. It wasn’t that Cecilia was displeased to be at the ball, it was more that she was nervous about doing something wrong. If she could just get herself to loosen up, she was sure she’d enjoy them more. This woman just seemed like she didn’t want to be there at all. “Why would people be staring at you?”
Cillia blinked slowly as the young woman next to her seemed to jump a little by her response. The woman seemed very nice and also a little surprised to find someone standing next to her. Cillia smiled a little wider at her. At the other woman’s statement, she cast her eyes down. “It is not quite my scenery.” She replied, honestly. The other woman looked rather nervous herself. “Do you enjoy balls?” She asked. When she asked the final question, Cillia felt herself wince a little. “Because that’s what people like to do best.” She said, softly.

Andrew jumped slightly as someone bumped into him gently. He turned around as a voice apologised, a gentle smile spreading across his features. He was not a cantankerous soul, and it was as much his fault for not paying attention. This wasn’t his normal scene, but there was no harm in trying to meet new people.
‘Please, my lady, it was as much my error for not paying attention. Please accept my apologies.’
He bowed slightly to the woman, before straitening back up.
‘Commodore Warren’ introducing himself ‘I do not believe I had the pleasure, miss…?’ he asked, reaching to kiss the young woman’s hand.
Cillia backed away quickly from the man. She had a hard time getting used to men after her kidnapping and had never fully seemed to get over the flip her stomach did whenever any one of them was near. A small, tight smile was displayed on her lips. When he kissed her hand, she quickly retracted it and clutched it in the other. “Your apologies are accepted, sir.” She said, quietly. Her dark locks hanging over her shoulders and down her back, Cillia wishing she could hide behind them like a curtain. She did a small curtsy like she was taught too, bending her knees and lowering her head. “No, I don’t think so. I have very rarely been to a ball before. Miss Nott.” She replied, stiffly.
Priscilla walked into the beautifully and grand ballroom. The chandeliers above sparkled like stars in the evening sky as the lights shined as bright as the moon. The sight of the night sky being so familiar that she immediately relaxed. Her pale blue eyes scanned around since she came in with her younger sister, Catherine, who was now nowhere to be found. As she was so busy looking around her, she wasn’t aware that she was heading towards someone and accidentally bumped into them. Her eyes widened as she blinked fast. “I am so sorry!”
She felt at home, balls were where she was most comfortable, they were her play ground, men to pay attention to her, women to gossip with, and thousands of single lords and ladies, just begging for her expertise.
She wore a coy grin, never wanting to appear to eager, but always careful to make others feel comfortable, happy and wanted. Balls were an art form which every lady needed to be well versed in.
Scanning the hall her eyes could not find Georgiana, who would have been her first point off call, so she approached the closest person she could she. “Come, surely you should not be standing alone, when so many must be in want of a partner!”
