Laviyuu fic recs
Some friendly anon asked for some laviyuu fic recs and so here they are. The list is not complete and took me like forever to make, since I read all fics again before including them.
Let’s start!
1) Staples of Vocabulary by clandestine7
Multi-chapter and her own canon interpretation. Very well written and made me fall in love again with writing laviyuu fanfiction after years. All of her dgm fics are amazing without exception. Seriously, take a look at them.
2) Foresight is 20/20 by Miko
Multi-chapter, canon divergence. Amazing writing style, long and well-thought. Their fics are kinda old (some more than 10 years), but not outdated. Lots of reading material. Another fave: Public humiliation (Rating E).
3) At night the dead come down to drink by mihael_jeevas
Lovely written and I love dramatic vampire Kanda. It’s fun to read. The devil’s water is also a cute little fic.
4) Paramour by @kitty-bandit
Maybe I have just a thing for vampires, lmao. Really well written smut.
5) Lots of ficlets by whaleofatime / @cetaceans-pls
My favourites are Masks and Unrest gets the best (of all of us), which is a sequel to Laugh Quietly.
I just love their writing style so much and their interpretation of the characters. It’s always very fun to read and often I giggle like an idiot. Go through their laviyuu tag and ao3!
6) take me (take me) by aozu/tsyunkete
I love well-written short fics and this is one. Also I enjoy the way they write very much. Lots and lots of laviyuu fics.
7) tell me will you be my eyes by @corvus-corvus (ao3)
Oh man, I just love Corvus’ laviyuu fics, especially the one linked. They are all lovely, but “tell me will you be my eyes” is my absolute favourite.
8) Night Train by bob_fish
Fun to read and also I’m always a fan of Lavi being a dork. Also very entertaining writing style.
9) Lots of fics by @cinder229 (ao3)
My favourites are fix it in post and where they don’t want to be.
All of their laviyuu fics are amazing and so I recommend reading all of them. Lots of unique ideas and lovely writing style.
10) Snow Hare by Umecchi
A fun little fic. Nepenthe (ot3, Lavi, Kanda & Allen) is also a great story by them and very well-written.
11) The Witcher and the Witch by @suicidetoro (ao3)
Nice long one shot with a very interesting au. I don’t know shit about The Witcher, but it was so much fun to read.
12) Between the Pages by @faeriexqueen (ao3)
Cute little story. Faerie is also the queen of yulma fics, so if you like that ship make sure to check her stories out!
That’s it for now, but I’ll make sure to expand this list when I find more great fics. There are still a few in my ao3 bookmarks that I have to read again.

hey. i love your writing, your blog and you, but i'm not a big fan of homestruck. would it be possible to tag it so i can blacklist it? but only if it's not too much of a hassle! thank u so much
… oh my god. Sorry about that (I think I know which reblog prompted this). I don’t know if I can consistently tag it, because this blog is pretty much going to be 80% Homestuck reblogs, but if you’re here for my fic writing good news: I think I’m going to start a sideblog for that so no one has to be subjected to the untagged mess that is this blog. Check back @cindrrain and feel free to unfollow this one! No hard feelings.
Yullen or tykki/lavi?
Tyki/Lavi
The first time they meet, it’s nothing remarkable. Well, as unremarkable as mostly-naked train poker can be. Tyki’s too focused on the boy he doesn’t know is Allen Walker to really pay attention to his friends, though that mess of red is hard to miss. Lavi is, as always, observant, but there isn’t really any reason to pay more attention to any one stranger than the others, especially when there’s an opportunity to observe another side of the Destroyer of Time and their new vampire teammate.
Later on, though, something strange about that one guy bothers Lavi all the way to China.
Between the first and second times is Lavi, standing in a bamboo forest over a pool of blood. He sees the Noah with Allen, understands what’s happening the first time but he has to play it another time through anyway, and it scares him how much hate stirs inside him for a face he believes he’s never seen before. He’s not supposed to feel emotion at all, but here’s all this grief and here’s all this fury, and he doesn’t know what to do with it.
The second time, the fury comes back with barely a glimpse. Perfect memory and all, and so he’s there on impulse but it’s okay because it’s the middle of a battle. Bookman can’t reprimand him for being too invested if he’s busy fighting for his life, and so he does. It’s a new feeling, to be on hair-trigger alert, every word uttered from the enemy’s mouth something tailor-made to taunt him. It’s a new feeling to have the taunting work, and for every reaction to be genuine.
Tyki, meanwhile, really sees Lavi for the first time. If Allen’s contradictions and resolution amuses him, then Lavi’s Bookman status and transparent struggling intrigues him. He’s a little fiery burning thing of violence, so very full of life and pointing all that spirit straight at Tyki, and he really can’t help but let both sides of him be interested.
There isn’t much interaction to be had the third time they meet, but it’s the last chance for any true pleasantness to exist between them. Road steals Lavi, unfortunately, but Tyki’s content with Allen Walker, Destroyer of Time, all the things that Lavi isn’t and is at the same time. After that, Lavi’s buried with his Ace of Spades and Tyki falls into his own darkness, and then things fall apart too much to put back together.
Right now, Lavi is within Tyki’s reach, but the window for a happy ending closed a while ago.
But maybe, in a more forgiving world, where Tyki’s flaws don’t go so far as murder, and clash less with the morals Lavi pretends he doesn’t have:
Here’s a situation: Lavi’s late biking to work at the little bookshop his adoptive grandfather owns, and Tyki is wandering lazily across the street with a sandwich in his mouth and groceries in hand for his brother’s family that he’s temporarily staying with (read as: freeloading off of).
Here’s a problem: Lavi already has troubles with depth perception, and even one eye isn’t much help if he isn’t even looking at the road (he knows checking his watch won’t actually make time go any slower, but a guy can hope, right?) and Tyki has better things to worry about than potentially being run over (like avoiding Road before he can be roped into doing her homework).
Here’s their meeting: Lavi nearly flies off the bridge with the impact and Tyki’s both lucky and sturdily built, and so when Lavi looks up along the offered hand, up a nicely-sculpted arm, and meets a smug little out-of-place smirk, he’s accepted the challenge before he knows what it is.
“Sorry about that, really.” Tyki knows he’s essentially apologizing for being run into by a bicycle, and Lavi sees it. “You need a band-aid?” Lavi’s bleeding from the knees and elbows, a little. It’s not pleasant.
“No, I’m all right, thanks!” He chirps as bright as if he’s competing with the songbird that woke him up at five this morning, and he’s really angry actually but he’s so determined not to show it. So, so determined. “Terribly sorry, my bad for not watching where I was going.”
“Oh, no, the fault was all mine. Mr…?” His eyes roam up and down like he’s looking for a nametag, which doesn’t make sense unless Lavi assumes he’s being checked out.
“Lavi.” His grin is wide and a little on the sharp side, and Tyki’s own smile widens at that like he’s pleased and surprised. “Say, can I have your number? In case of, like, you pass out later and I’m in legal trouble or whatever.” It’s a terrible excuse.
Tyki leans in, grabs his entire arm to slowly, deliberately scrawl the digits on Lavi’s wrist. “Of course. I look forward to hearing from you.“

How would the main peeps deal with stress?
Allen: If he recognizes it as unnecessary stress, he’ll try to talk himself out of it. Usually, though, it appears to him as something he really does need to think on and contemplate, and he’s practiced enough at seeming cheerful that no one notices that he’s spending all his time mulling and fretting. If someone does notice and presses him for answers, though, he’ll give them readily enough. This usually serves the purpose of settling him down for a while, although what he tends to stress about are large, ongoing issues that can’t be solved easily. Eventually it bursts somewhere inconvenient, like mid-battle, and depending on who he’s with he’s either yelled out of it, talked down with reason, or provided with sympathetic sentiments (Kanda, Lavi, and Lenalee, respectively). Any one of those helps.
Lenalee: She’d spend more time around people she likes, making an effort to always be in the company of her friends and “family” so she doesn’t have to dwell on whatever’s troubling her. If it’s something she actually does need to address instead of just try not to worry about, she’ll try talking it out with Komui or Allen, depending on if the problem concerns either of them. If all she needs is to be talked down or someone to vent to, she’ll go find Kanda and sit with him a while. For general-purpose cheering up, she goes to see if Lavi’s busy, and he generally entertains her out of her mood. Of course, the best situation is if she can get all of them together, and just bask in the shenanigans her little group is bound to get up to.
Lavi: Lavi knows the signs of stress and dozens of methods that are proven to work against it, but he usually dismisses his own stress as not important enough to bother with. Of course, stress doesn’t work like that, and so it simmers unnoticed even to him until little events and tiny details build up enough to be something major and upsetting that he needs to deal with immediately. How well he deals with it varies depending on the situation, but it seems to average out at “not well”. Other people’s influence often makes the issue worse, especially if his current Issue to Ignore is the question of emotions and how he’s changed during his time at the Order. Many a derailing tactic has been employed whenever Allen politely comments that he’s looking a little under the weather lately, when Lenalee asks if he’s feeling okay, or when Kanda snaps suggestions disguised as insults.
Kanda: He spars with Allen, spars with Lavi, practices sparring in various places, and spars with Allen some more. It works well enough as short-term blowing off of steam, but if there’s something actually bothering him under all that default anger, he’s not as certain how to manage it. He’d get snippier and snippier, first toward Lavi until even he knows to back off, and then toward everyone else, including random strangers. Lenalee’s usually the only one he thinks twice about barking at, but if she doesn’t know the source of the sudden aggression - and he won’t tell anyone, so she’d have to guess - she doesn’t have much of a chance of dealing with it. Surprisingly, Kanda’s the best out of the four at resolving things without outside input; after a while of being in a terrible mood, he gets right down to business to get rid of it.

Ruby Vera is, in her own words, a sensible girl. She’s not the “I can do everything myself, and people are burdens” lone wolf type - see examples Damien and the twins - but she isn’t afraid to use her skills to accomplish everything she has to. And she has a lot on her plate, being the leader of a city in the middle of rebuilding, but she isn’t about to let all the stress stop her from getting things done. (Sure, there are the moments late at night where her doubts refuse to stay in one place, and she has to chase them around and around in circles with her thoughts until her reasoning tires and her logic fails; there are nights when she thinks she isn’t fit to be any sort of leader at all.)
She’s has reasonable methods - violence in extremes is something she won’t tolerate - and reasonable fears. If deaths and failure have already happened to her once before (one still hand between heavy chunks of rubble - the walls she trusted falling down around her, trapping her and ruining her sanctuary - any peace she’d known collapsing in on itself, and this isn’t something she can fix, at least not right away - it won’t ever go back to how it was before), then it’s not too far of a stretch to think they might happen again. She isn’t all that distraught over it, anyway. It happened a long time ago, and she’s had a happy life with her foster mother, and now she’s been given the best chance in the world to fix everything as best she can. (She can’t let it all go down this time - she has to be vigilant, she has to make sure she’s doing all she can.)
(She tries not to let it bother her too much, but in quiet moments her mind always wanders off without her permission. What were they like, she wonders. Would they be proud of me now? Did they have lives they would have lived, if they’d been given the chance to live? Would Foralis be better off if they’d lived instead of her?)
She’s doing okay, she thinks. She keeps up with all her projects and dreams and obligations, and she hasn’t run herself down into the ground recently. Whenever she seems to be winding up too tight, someone - usually Damien - pulls her out on a walk so she can relax. She’s doing okay.
