O Menino e o Mundo (The Boy and the World), 2013 - Alê Abreu
5 bullets on this film:
This film is original, beautiful, and it surprised me very much. I didn’t really want to watch it because I thought it would be stupid, but it’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. If it doesn’t win the best animation Oscar I am going to lose my faith in humanity.
It’s pure art. The animation is simple, innovative and beautiful. The techniques that were used prove that you don’t need a modern (and expensive) computer programme to make amazing special effects.
The story is told through a child’s point of view, so sometimes it doesn’t make a lot of sense, but hell yeah, it’s still amazing. And, believe me, it’s not for children only, everyone would like it.
There aren’t many dialogues, but the music and the sounds tell the story even better than the usual hollywood movie would.
I love how it basically describes Brazil, its people and its culture. The Brazilian film industry has been producing some super amazing films in the last few years. Sadly, not many of them are known, and the famous ones sometimes are the worst ones. BUT, THIS FILM, OH MY GOD, THIS FILM HAS TO BE WATCHED BY EVERYONE.
