All this anti Arya and Trident nonsense just reminded how fucked up that whole situation was. Obviously, to people who read the book and have common sense, Joffrey and Cersei are at fault. But when certain people bring up how violent and bad Arya was, I can't help but think about one reaction that the majority of the ASOIAF miss even though it's not only concerning, but disturbing- S*nsa's.
Even before Arya was found and taken to Robert to defend herself against Joffrey and Cersei's accusations (because Arya had already been accused of attacking Joffrey unprovoked before S*nsa was ever called upon) and Lady was killed, S*nsa never showed any concern towards her sister. The incident at the Trident is in S*nsa's POV so the reader knows exactly what she was thinking and feeling. And we know she was upset about her day was being ruined and her "poor prince". But that's it. Her sister was being attacked and it only stopped because of Nymeria? She's not worried about her sister. In fact, she comforts her sister's attacker and yells at her. Arya was missing for days, on her own in the woods, and in the 4 books S*nsa is in, we've never seen ever feeling scared or remorseful about what she said or did to Arya. It doesn't even seem to register that her sister was in danger. And this behavior towards Arya continues after she's found, and in some ways, is even worse.
And the Trident is just one example of S*nsa's lack of empathy and compassion for those she deemed lesser to her. Again, since the books are written in POV, we know exactly what S*nsa thinks and feels. We know that she was disgusted by Mycah and wrongly blamed him for the incident even though she witnessed what happened (again, the Trident is in her POV) and knew he was violently murdered . We know that she looked down on Jeyne, was annoyed Jeyne was crying about her father, and never cared to ask about Jeyne after she was taken away. We know that Jory, who spent years in her family's service, was killed and her only thought on the matter was that she was happy that his replacement was better looking. The fact that her father was attacked and his men were killed didn't seem to ever register to her. These were people she grew up around, she knew them for years, yet she felt nothing towards them. And that's just in the first book. S*nsa doesn't grow as much in empathy or compassion as people claim in the other books.
Yet, Arya, the one people claim is sociopath, violent natured, and a "murder baby", felt concern, pain, and sadness when she saw that her father's men were killed. She was devastated when Mycah was killed. She even tried to make amends with S*nsa only to be cruelly rejected. And despite everything she went through, Arya continued to make friends, help and defend others, and show empathy and compassion in the following books.
It's all in the books, very well detailed as is GRRM's way, but yet some how, almost an entire fandom missed it.
