Yes, he finally realised how red he became and the embarrassment took over him. The blonde knew that you would never point it out, nor question it, but he still felt like hiding his face – not that he wished to escape this situation ( your warm hand guiding him, his heart beating rapidly in his chest, the fresh evening wind that played with your hair ) – no, but he simply wanted to escape the guilt of feeling like this towards a friend.

“Say… Hitori.. can I, uhm.., ask you what you meant by ‘you understand how I feel’? Do you.. feel the same or…” It would be too sad if you were to feel the same! After all you wore such a bright smile, you were so smart and kind, also very handsome, if he was allowed to point it out.

If you were to be haunted like him, with the thoughts of suicide, then it would mean this world was even worse than he thought..

“Oh. Err...”

This wasn’t good. Despite him wanting Kazuaki to know that he truly understood the feelings first hand, it would be saddening to the other. Though, he supposed it was the only way...

“I do...often feel the same, but I try to fight it. You know?”

“...err...let’s change subjects, yeah? As long as we’re friends, we have each other and that’s all someone really needs, right?”

His hand gently tightened around Kazuaki’s, the presence of the other being the most comfort he’d felt in a while. Kazuaki’s hands were so soft. He was always so soft, everything about him...Hitori blinked quickly to push those thoughts aside.

“You won’t. With your attitude, you’ll die sooner than you think. If it’s not me, someone’s going to come along and kill you. It might even be a bit entertaining to watch, frankly. Seeing your smart mouth get shut up by a blade or a bullet.”

“I doubt it’s that horrible, by your standards. I’m only here to get revenge, that’s all I’m interested in.” Truly, that wasn’t extremely horrible. Sure, only living to kill a man in revenge wasn’t virtuous, but there had been worse things done before.

“Well, that’s not very nice. I certainly don’t wish to see anything ill-willed happen to you, now do I? You know what they say, do unto others and all that?”

“No, you....need peers more like yourself than Sakuya. He’s not exactly...the average student at school.”

There wasn’t anything wrong with Sakuya, per se, but his background was much more...haughty.

Taking a deep sigh, Kazuaki looked to Zenix.

“You really distrust me, don’t you?”

“…People don’t exactly come off as trustworthy when you’ve been on homeless. And I was the one robbing you.” Zenix supposed he should try to be more trusting, but it had only ever hurt him in the end.

“You keep using excuses like that, you know. I know it’s hard, trust me, but you can’t keep speaking to me like I don’t understand you.

...how long were you homeless, exactly?”

Well. He supposed he had gotten an explanation. He just wasn’t expecting anything that dark. Not that he condoned the man’s intention, but at least he could understand anger.

“…”

The teen slowly lowered gun, then held it out to him to take. “I’m sorry.”

“So you shouldn’t jump to assumptions about others. Set it down. Please. It’s loaded, and I don’t want you hurting yourself with it.”

“You can talk from there. I’ll put it down when you explain.” He readjusted how he was holding it, obviously not experienced in the least. He hoped his own nervousness didn’t show.

“Alright. Well...when I was just a few years older than you, a man did terrible things to my brother. He’s...he’s gone now,” the hurt in the man’s voice was very obvious when he spoke now.

“I carry that because I’m waiting for the day I can get revenge on that man.”

With the sudden advance toward him, he aimed it directly at Kazuaki, his finger sitting dangerously on the trigger. He took on a stern expression, eyes narrowed. “Don’t come close to me.”

“You don’t know what you’re doing, Zenix.”

Kazuaki held his hands at his side, standing still. This was possibly the most serious he’d ever looked.

“You want an explanation? I’ll give you one, but you need to put it down. You’re not even handling it safely.”

“I don’t know. It’s just unnerving for a middle-aged man to invite not one, but two 16-year-olds into his home.” Time on the street had traumatized him in more ways than one, it seemed.

“…ah.

I’ll have you know, firstly, I’m not middle-aged. I’m 25. And I can assure you, nothing ill-willed is going on here. I’m sure you understand, sometimes things need to be carried for personal protection.”

“That doesn’t make it any less creepy.” He glanced at the man, then at the gun in his hand. “I’m assuming this isn’t legal.”

He waved the weapon in question, almost carelessly, hoping to provoke some kind of reaction. He wasn’t letting it go that easily.

With the careless waving, Kazuaki’s eyes widened and he moved forwards. The teen obviously had never held a gun before, and he could easily harm himself or someone else. Even if it just went off, there would be big trouble.

“Be careful with that-!”
