Basically its this:

1. Yes I think tgirls should be allowed and even encouraged to transition. And while it is true to say that you don't necessarily need to do certain physical changes to call yourself a girl, often times this sentiment is shared to downplay the importance of transition and even coerce girls away from it. So I think its vital to actively support, encourage, and assist in full medical and physical transition instead of mere platitudes of "you dont have to transition to be heckin valid!"

2. That said holy FUCK would it kill you to be normal about girls with dicks?

because i just saw a tweet with someone complaining that volume 8 turned Ironwood into "a Disney villain" when "volume 7 left it up in the air who was right, him or RWB/Y"

my guy, he made it clear he didn't care who he hurt so long as he won before he decided he was going to abandon thousands of civilians to the cold and the Grimm because he got scared and decided to run away when he found out the mean scary witch was coming, and then he shot a child for calling him out on it

there's no ambiguity, there's no "well i dunno maybe he had a point in abandoning the poor to save the rich", the show is flat out clear that he's in the wrong, what are you talking about?

Abandoning his duties to protect a city of civilians from man eating monsters, overthrowing his legal government, and ordering the murder of an innocent woman because she essentially has the car keys he needed to run away. These are all things he did before he even knew Salem was coming.

Then, after finding out she was coming, he ordered the arrest of anyone who disagreed with him or who MIGHT disagree with him, and attempted to kill a teenage boy for politely trying to talk him out of it.

James Ironwood was a coward and a traitor before Volume 8. And he was wrong.

the writers do a good job in obscuring just how bad Ironwoods actions are when you look at them in a vacuum by having their main critics be people you're not inclined to agree with

Jacques Schnee is a scummy self-serving abusive asshole, you're not supposed to like him and you don't want to listen to him - so when he starts making good points about Ironwood's poor handling of things, he's easy to ignore, even though he's right

We're introduced to the Robyn and her Happy Huntresses through Forrest, who seems to be an overly enthusiastic but ultimately inept protestor whose accusations of Ironwood being a tyrant are framed in a way that makes him seem like an idiot that is over-exaggerating things, with RWBY and the others not taking him seriously or even really remembering the encounter; we don't meet Robyn personally until a few episodes later, when the story has spent some time showing Ironwood at his most affable (to people he considers important)

unfortunately this clever writing trick of hiding how callous and casually heartless Ironwood's actions really are unless you're directly paying attention, and not really spelling it out directly until later in the arc, leads certain people to completely misread how this arc plays out and act like his turn came out of nowhere (and then refuse to go back and check when making claims of "ambiguity")

At this point, maybe I'm too cynical to believe it's misreading and refusing to go back and rewatch with a lot of these people. It's like they want Ironwood to be right. They want all the cowardly acts he commits to be right. They want a story that applauds that behavior.

It's an attitude that you can see in real life. Abandoning marginalized people in the name of a greater good is framed as just a hard choice instead of what it actually is.

Cowardice.

And people want to fe praised for making that supposed hard choice that doesn't affect them in the least because they're part of the majority.

Chapter 31: The Road to Reconciliation

Rated M, including this chapter.

Summary: Yang’s been feeling under the weather, and Blake persuades her to get a checkup. The cause of her symptoms comes as a shock, with lifelong consequences when they decide to keep moving forward.

Chapter summary: Blake and Yang have a little chat with their parents, minus Raven.

This fic earns no AO3 archive warnings to my knowledge, but to be safe there's a trigger warning included at the start of chapter 1, just in case. There is some darkness to this story, but I think it is balanced by the fluff.

Finally finished the next chapter of my WIP, The Baby Plot.

Now I just need to figure out if there's a sensible place to split it, or it's going to be over 13,000 words long, well over the 10,000 I try not to go over.

It may take quite a while to edit if I can't split it, especially because I'll be otherwise occupied this weekend.

If I can split it I'll also need to come up with a new title and summary. Why did I go for individual chapter titles and summaries?! They can be such a pain to come up with, I know that, and yet I still do them. Oh right: because I'm my own worst enemy.

Anyway, next chapter coming soon. Ish. Before the weekend if I split it, and before next weekend if I don't. Hopefully. Wish me luck!
