Like another planet Driving through Yellowstone early morning, steam rose from the geological features, made more apparent by the cool, early morning air. I'd love to experience how spectacular this all looks in Winter.
Howdy Pal I'm a huge fan of road trips. While there's absolutely something to be said about getting to a destination quickly, the ability to explore is expanded so much when you take your time.
Finding NEOWISE
Well, more like stumbling upon NEOWISE. Elise and I had set up camp in Wyoming and all but given up on seeing the comet. It was cold outside and getting colder, and we were tired from a few hundred miles of driving, so we had decided to put stargazing off for a night while we recuperated. Luckily, Elise decided she needed something outside, because I opened the tent, looked straight ahead, and saw…

Revisiting: Exploring an abandoned mining town
Revisiting: Exploring an abandoned mining town
I had heard about the city doing research on ghost towns along our route out west in 2018. It was a zinc and lead town, once. Founded in the late 1800s. It was home to around 300 people at one point, before it closed in 1984.
Trees line the sides of streets, 30 years can do a lot to human infrastructure.
Graffiti, often vulgar, adorns most of the buildings here. As with most abandoned…

Total Eclipse 2017
Elise and I traveled to the path of totality on the 21st. Even though I went woefully photographically unprepared and wasn’t even sure if I was going to bother with my camera for the duration, I managed to fire off this and a few other shots.
After a few hours of waiting, the partial phase began. The excitement built as my fellow eclipse watchers and I started noticing the world around us…

Kishi Bashi and Tall Tall Trees at Chicago's Thalia Hall (April 11, 2017)
Whenever Kishi Bashi, and more recently, Kishi Bashi and Tall Tall Trees come through town, I make an effort to show up. I don’t do music or concert photography as a main gig, but, as both a fan and a freelance photojournalist, I’m more than happy to experience and capture some of the magic that these two bands exude during their live shows.
Tall Tall Trees (Mike Sevino) opened brilliantly…

Abandoned Post Office Revisit
Built in 1936 under the guide of architect Howard Cheney via the New Deal program and closed in the 1970s, this Post Office has seen better days.
Skylights let in natural light in the lobby area of the old Post Office. These places, the places that were the most bustling when the buildings were active, are the most eerie spots to me. Completely empty and falling apart. You can’t really see it in…

Finally got around to making my first accurate photogrammetry model - this one is of a piece of exterior stonework that I saved from the pile of rubble that was Ambassador Apartments in Gary after it was demolished.
I hope to preserve more of these artifacts in 3D as well as whole interiors, when I get around to it.
Hopefully, if I can nail this down, you'll be able to walk around in the places in VR far after they're gone.

Kishi Bashi and Tall Tall Trees Chicago 2016
Kishi Bashi and Tall Tall Trees put on one of the best shows I’ve ever been to in my life last year in October – I’m finally able to share these photos and couldn’t be more excited.

The Roof was Intact on my First Visit
Revisiting the Palace, 2016
New blog post up! This one is about a revisit to an abandoned theater I frequent.
I enjoy repeat visits of places that I’ve photographed before. Not only because I like to see how they’ve changed over the years, but because I enjoy the challenge of finding something new to take a photo of every time.
Before heading out west earlier this year, Elise and I revisited an old stand-by – a theater and apartment complex that was one of our first urbex destinations ever, nearly a…

Abandoned Classrooms
It’s chilling to walk through the abandoned hallways of a once-bustling school. The ghosts of what once remained – kids yelling, running, talking, filling classrooms, learning – are gone and replaced with darkness, uneasy silence, and the ever-increasing decay and destruction that an abandoned building suffers.
A historic school in an impoverished area where it’s needed the most, left to…
