Remember when live music was a thing? I sure do. Well, good news! Seattle venues are opening up again! . You can feel the energy in the scene, people are talking, singing, collaborating, and reaching out to everyone they know to get a show together. . Itll be a while before I get back up on stage, Covid put my business in an extremely exciting position and now I'm learning the true value of time. . Time is required for creative endeavors, and the less of it I have, the less I can produce. But in some ways I've also learned the value in collaboration. . Because my business is booming, I've also had to relinquish tasks to other, more talented individuals to create the work I once did. Its paying off too! . And with that, I'm happy to say that there is a lot to share in the coming months! Things may be changing here too. We'll see how it goes, time will tell! . I was hesitant to share this shot because it is far from who I am, however I feel like the character that I embodied for the shoot would exist in this state. I've always seen this image as if one is fading from existence... its interesting to me. . So to continue, the fears that I have been holding onto masked my roots. They covered the soil and shrouded my seeds in shadow. In shadow I can not grow, in shadow I can not see. . I unmasked these seeds for the first time in a while, and I now remember WHY I'm an artist. I let that part of me slip, I lost sight of where I started. . See, my motivations exist to help others in ways that I wish I was offered. And under it all, under the seeds themselves is my root, my core. My root exists to show that transpeople are just like any other person. . My root and my seed, exist in selflessness while my needs and desires exist in selfishness. More on this idea in the next post. . Swipe <- . So these fears? What are these fears holding me back? Well for starters it is the fear of change. I am so proud of this release! The amount of work we all put into this was gratifying! But when we dropped the images and article it simply wasn't recognized. . See, something clicked the week we dropped this shoot, I realized that what I've been doing is no longer working. A few of you may understand this, but there is a time when you friends stop caring about your work but your fans do. I'm at that tipping point. . At the time of release, I released this shoot unsure of my audience. That was the wake up call, now I know who is watching, who is listening, who is waiting for the next thing. So I sucked up my fear and changed something. That graph (<-) is what happened. . I'll elaborate more about the future in the next post, stay tuned! Another from the shoot! And a continuation of my thoughts the other day. . This shoot helped me realize that I have been giving into fear. Fear that I'm not good enough, fear that I don't have enough followers, fear that I will fail. . This has led me to the place I am now, a plateaue. You see, I can't get to where I'm going if I don't get over these fears. I know how my mind works and I know these are irrational. . I will always feel like I am not good enough, I will always feel like I don't have enough followers, I will always be afraid of failure, and that's okay; but it's not okay to let it control me. . I've been in a weird place recently and I think this cyberpunk shoot hacked it out of me (lame joke I know). This shoot took my expectations and flipped it on its head! It was a wakeup call and a good one at that. . In a way I see this shoot as a bookend for a era on how I run my business. When you are always releasing something new like I am, it can be a challenge to step back and see the big picture. This shoot, coupled with Covid, helped me do that. . I was gonna post this later today, but I can't sleep tonight so I thought now might be a good time. Margaret Thatcher once said, "You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it." . . Margaret you clever woman you, I never really thought of our battles like this and so this one has got my mind going quite a bit. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve shied away from a project only to have something similar come back months later. Then, I’ll get halfway through it and realize that I passed the point that I feared previously. . . This realization is huge, because suddenly I become more confident in my ability to tackle projects that I would otherwise shy away from. When I suddenly succeed, I realize just how capable I am, and it becomes infectious. I want more. I want to solve more riddles and be better than I was yesterday. . . The fear of failure will never stop though. If I give up, then fear has won not only won the battle, but the war as well. You get one real chance to move past fear, and if you let it take you, you will forever be stuck in the place you found it. . . I built a shelf for my MIDI controller today! Now my entire audio workstation is much more efficient and so much less cluttered. It feels so great! . Lately I've been planning a really big project, and I know it's going to change the way I operate. Because of this, I've been looking at the things in my life that are difficult to work with and trying to create much more pleasant spaces to exist in. . I know that this project is going to take up more time and energy that I'm not used to, so before it begins I'm trying my best to tackle the areas that will get in the way when this project starts. Over the last couple years, I've been building partnerships with people. I've learned that I just can't achieve my dreams without help from others, it takes a village. After working on a few projects here and there I've really seen just how much strength we have together and I am so grateful for the people who trust me as much as I trust them. I don't usual get political, but we are in such an intense time in our country that I feel the need to say something. The DNC changed the rules and went pay to play yesterday, and we need someone who actually cares more about the people than the money. . I believe Bernie is the only candidate who can change our country from the inside, and not through outside wars or bargaining more trade debt through china. Bernie will bring equality to the incredible wealth disparity our country is plagued with to put more only in the pockets of you; the working and the low income classes. . If you claim you're not political, or perhaps you just haven't been paying attention, you need to check your privilege and understand what's at risk.
