Weird things about living in a desert
Grass is so exodic to me. The concept of grass is wild. I got lost a few weeks back and i found a big park entirely with grass in it and had to pull to the side of the road and figure out why the fuck
Trees scare me. I straight up dont like trees. They are loaming and gaint and reduce visibility. Im fine with the ocational planted tree but too many, too close sets of a bell inside my head
Water. Its a desert out there be water smart. 90% of lake mead’s water goes to souther California due to a court ruling we nevadans lost. We only get 10% of our already limited water supply. The water company has made sure everyone does their part to be water smart.
Rain is wild. When it happens its very exciting because it means we get more water in the valley (hooray!!) and even a slight drizzle lifts everyones moods. But it always caused floods in poorly drained parts of the vally and people are always swept away. Turn around dont drown
Shade is neat too. It gets 120 (50 in fake temperature) but thats all from the sun. There is no humitiy so you get the smallest ammout of shade (sometimes even an umbrella) and it drops the temperature by 10 to 20 degrees
Theres a lot of cursed shit. All deserts are just cursed and haughted in general. You tell someone you saw spooky shit out on the side of the road in the middle of the desert and people will nod and tell u that deserts are just cursed and will eat ur soul
Libertarianism is wild too. At least in vegas it still very much the wild west. While vegas and reno are democratic and the farmers and miners are republican most people in nevada have a more libertarian approach to things. You see someone doing something weird? Fuck off and fuck you for even caring. Its too damn hot.
