“ do you ever check into hotels for no reason ?? i know it sounds quite odd, but–i do it all the time, really. sometimes i’ll just stay in a hotel for a weekend just for fun. it makes me feel fancy for some reason. particularly if i decide to take a bubble bath. ”
“You know I have actually never done that. I think I’ll try it out now, any suggestions?”
“ oh, god, no way i’m showing you – or anyone – any of them. they suck, and i don’t want you to think that i’m still that lame asshole. well, i don’t know. realistic fiction, i guess? my most popular one wasn’t exactly realistic, i guess. i guess it just depends on what i want to write. the one i’m working on right now is… happier than most of them. ”
“Oh come on I’ll only show you mine if you show me yours.” Dolly giggled. “I’ve always been partial to romances myself, but realistic fiction is nice too. Why change pace and make things happier?”

“My sweater was new, stinging red and ugly. It was May 12 but the temperature had dipped to the forties, and after four days shivering in my shirtsleeves, I grabbed cover at a tag sale rather than dig through my boxed-up winter clothes. Spring in Chicago.”
“Righteous,” he smiled at her impression, though, he didn’t recognize it. “Yeah, I don’t think that’s a profession you can do forever, anyway, like I’m the one to talk, but I get the circumstances. Better to quit while you’re ahead in the long run.”
“Were you a professional wrestler then?”
“No kidding, was he like, a big-timer in his league or did he just do it for the sport?”
“From what he told me, he coulda been a contenda.” She said with her best Marlon Brando impression before giggling. “He made some good money, but got a regular job after I was born.”
“ – i guess we have that in common, though mine was probably worse. i wrote all kinds of awful poetry in high school. i was that pretentious ‘poetry writes me’ douchebag. ” he chuckled. “ and then i figured out my poetry sucked, so i started narrative stuff. ”
“You wanna bet? I still have some of the poems tucked away, I don’t know why I kept them though. What kind of stories do you write?”
“I get that sometimes, I personally can’t stand football, to be honest. Boxing is.. I do shadow boxing often, but I wouldn’t consider myself a fan.”
“I watched a lot of fights when I was a little girl with my dad. He was a boxer too.”

“Yeah! To be honest I still love The Illiad. Oh God I even poetry about that stuff, yikes! Little teenage Dolly had a lot of free time and almost no other interests.”

“ are you kidding? that’s adorable. ” he chuckled. “ i used to play superheroes and supervillains with my little brothers, i always wanted to be the hero. ” he said. “ that’s why i like writing – because you don’t have to stop pretending to be the hero… or the princess. ”
Dolly smiled and laughed a little. “I guess you’re right. Escapism is a great thing, and it’s one of the reasons why I love Classics so much. I can pretend I live in a world full of heroes.”

“Well that’s pretty subjective but if I had to pick...I think Bradley and Sailor Algy. They’re pretty attractive in their own ways and they’ve been really nice. And Rodrick too I guess.”
