Hi. I'm Courtney, and I'm a nerd that spends an abundance of time coming up with ClaudeShez headcanons. I was just gifted a copy of Three Hopes and have been madly in love with this ship since Day One.
You're welcome to join me as I post absolute madness about them, all the while spreading good vibes.
to make space for new stuff, i really need to either scrap or finish all the incomplete pieces i have lying around. there are so many of them and it's starting to feel like a burden. so i'll focus on that for now.
illustration for the scene below the cut:
The day before the Blue Lions were set to depart for Gaspard, Dimitri found himself wandering the library with a vague intention of beginning an essay due in the first week of the Blue Sea Moon. In truth, he wasn’t in the right frame of mind to write. Restlessness consumed him, and keeping himself occupied felt like the only way to avoid dwelling too deeply on his tangled emotions.
The quiet solitude of the library should have been calming, but Dimitri's thoughts remained elsewhere as he roamed the rows of towering bookshelves. His steps were aimless, his fingers occasionally grazing the spines of books he had no intention of reading. Then, something—or rather, someone—broke through his haze of distraction.
Claude.
He was standing at the far end of one corridor, utterly engrossed in the book he held, the faint glow of sunlight from a nearby window illuminating his profile. Dimitri hesitated for a moment, watching as Claude’s lips moved faintly, almost imperceptibly, as if tasting the words on the page.
Before he realized it, he had drifted closer. He stopped just a few steps away, unwilling—or perhaps unable—to announce his presence. Instead, he lingered, studying Claude’s features: the sharp line of his jaw, the slight curve of his nose, the way his brow furrowed ever so slightly in concentration.
The sudden snap of Claude closing his book broke the spell. He turned to face Dimitri with one eyebrow arched, looking both amused and slightly suspicious.
“Were you trying to sneak up on me?” Claude asked, his tone quiet but teasing.
Dimitri stiffened, shaking his head. “I didn’t want to disturb your concentration,” he replied, though the excuse sounded thin even to his own ears.
One of the many things I like about Three Hopes: The Writing.
Three Hopes’ Claude feels completely different from Three Houses’ Claude, and I absolutely love it. The Claude we originally fell in love with rarely ever showed any emotion, outside of his S-rank confession. I spent a few hours playing Three Hopes last night, and Claude mentioned something about ‘getting a little tired’. My inner fangirl squealed. She squeals whenever she thinks of that line. Three Houses didn’t give us anything along those lines, yet Three Hopes’ Claude shows off an abundance of insecurities and I absolutely eat that crap up. I’m here for it.
Claude’s still Claude, but he’s fearful. He’s always worried about his responsibilities. He’s insecure. He doesn’t trust himself. He needs a hug. And I live for it. Give me angsty, fretful, ‘I need a hug’ Claude.
Then there’s Lorenz. I honestly thought Three Hopes was going to be the condensed, Cliff Notes version of Three Houses, but he alone proves me wrong. Lorenz is still the Lorenz we knew, but he feels like a much more complex, intriguing character. Plus he’s not as offensive as he was in Three Houses, because if I remember right, he was kinda sorta racist towards Claude. In Three Hopes, he’s leery of Claude but doesn’t make it about his race. He’s cautious and haughty. He’s still obsessed with his status as a noble. But he’s kind-hearted. He teases other about their status as a commoner, but actually means well.
Plus it feels like he’s got some pretty intense chemistry with Shez. I’m all for shipping Shez (in my case, M!Shez) with Claude, but by golly gee wow, the Lorenz/Shez ship writes itself.
The writing compels me to care about characters I normally would’ve ignored. I paid very little attention to Raphael until a few days ago, when I went through his C support with Shez. I paid very little attention to Ignatz until I took control over him during battle, now he’s my sunshine cinnamon baby boy and whoever screws with him will feel my wrath.
I love this game’s writing. This is all coming from someone that played all three routes in Three Houses, and watched playthroughs of Three Houses on YouTube.
A recent Claude/Shez commission I got from the super talented Picnic!! This ship deserves a lot more content, I loved their dynamic in Three Hopes!
I always loved that Claude was ambiguously brown, I’m brown too so it was cool to see. I wanted him in south Asian formalwear for this piece for that reason!
They’re out on a romantic stroll in Deirdru, as Claude really wanted to show Shez around (based on expedition dialogue) :)
I'll refrain from heavy spoilers but I just played some Three Hopes tonight, and Claude actually expressed fear and anxiety towards his responsibilities. Arval then commented on his mental state once he walked off.
I played through the three main routes in Three Houses and have no memory of Claude being anything other than the Riddler.
Unfortunately Shez canonically gave off a response that felt like 'cheer up and suck it up' kind of thing. So headcanon says my personal Shez would've said something like 'you're doing all you can. All great leaders have their ups and downs. And you're not alone. We're with you, Claude. I'm with you'. 'You've got this.'
