 My presentation Exhibiting Archives: The Mexican American and Latino@ Collections on Display discussed my use of the Benson Latin American Collection archives throughout curatorial research of museum exhibitions. In addition, I discussed my personal archives that are and will be in the Mexican American and Latino@ Collections.

Brief press regarding the program I helped create: the Puro Chingon Social Club. The Puro Chingon Social is a monthly, Latino-themed program that includes interactive film screenings of Latino cult movies created by the Puro Chingon Collective.The Puro Chingon Collective (Claudia Aparicio, James Huizar, and Claudia Zapata) is a Latino art collective that creates art zines, interactive movie screenings, and public art interactions to promote, experiment, and recreate their defining cultural identities.

ChingoZine 1 and 2 are now at the Austin History Center thanks to Gloria Espitia, Mexican American community liason. They might even make a new category in their collections for just art zines!

ChingoZine 1 and 2 are now in the Texas A&M Zine Collection. This collection has zines ceated by Texans or other Southwesterners and/or concern Texas or the Southwest; zines created by African-Americans or Latino/as in Texas or the Southwest; zines created by TAMU students or former students; and Artzines concerned with printing and/or designed as print art objects. Thank you Jeremy Brett and Daniela Capistrano for linking us all together!

As part of the art vending cart project from Mexico called “Changarrito,” I selected  artists to present and sell their works while at the Mexic-Arte Museum. Lucas Negrete graced us with his presence during the SXSW weekends in 2013. Texas Native Chicano artist, José Lucas Negrete (aka THIC), gravitates toward graffiti yet shows diversity with his mixed media paintings and sculptures. Negrete draws his motivation from his urban life style and inspiration from his Mexican culture; his focus has become the dichotomy of the two. After closing Austin's 5th Gallery, Negrete continues his artistic endeavors around Texas and abroad. More images of Martinez click here.
