At first I understood what I was making as an epistemological model of perception, but the more I made these works, I began to understand it as its opposite: that perception and consciousness was algorithmic. In other words, I could manipulate the algorithms of my representations and change perceptions. Trance entered my work. If I could offset 3 logarithms and throw some chaos or randomness on the top, I could hypnotize both myself and my audience. I made this work during a particularly harsh period of insomnia as my cure. If I looked at long enough, I would eventually pass out. Hence I threw on the Buddhist monk chanting, a audio algorithm that enhanced the hypnotic effect. This also introduced the next and current phase of my work, coinciding with introduction of augmented apps and VR platforms like Oculus and Vive: the creation of liminal spaces that I think of as transformational.
