((A time Logan dealt with a child--tasedtwiceshameonyou))
Logan tried to comfort the screaming toddler. Amiko had been under his care for a few weeks now, but he still hadnât found what made her happy. She still didnât really talk much, so he couldnât ask.
âAre ya hungry kid?â he asked, bouncing her up and down in his arms. He grabbed some fruit mush from the cabinet and sat her down on the sofa. He tried to give her a spoonful, but she wasnât having it. âAh, comeâon, itâs goodâŚwill ya eat it if itâs a train, or an airplane or something? Ah, forget it, you ainât hungry.â
He searched the room. Her screaming did not help him think about what could possibly be going on. What do kids want? Why do they cry? She didnât need a diaper change, or heâd a smelled that. Toys? Toys! That HAD to be it! No kid can resist a good toy!
Minutes later, toys were strewn all over the place. It looked like a toddler had been busy at work.
In reality, Logan had tried every toy he could find to get her to stop, throwing each one to the ground before the next.
The good news was that Amiko was losing energy. She wasnât screaming any more. Still snotty and sobbing, but not screaming. A huge improvement.
Logan sat with his head in his hands. âHow do I cheer you up?â
âTry singing to her, love.â Logan looked up to see Mariko standing in the entrance to the room. âShe likes being sung to. Itâll put her right to sleep.â
âIâd just make her cry more, what, with my voice. You sing to the kid, sheâll like that. Youâve got a nice voice.â
Mariko smiled and walked over to the little girl. She picked her up and sat beside Logan. âHere,â she said, passing Amiko to Logan. âIâll sing, you hold her.â
So Logan did just that, as Mariko sung some lullabies. Logan found himself humming along. Soon, Amiko fell asleep, and Logan put her to bed.
âSweet dreams, love. Youâre a little trooper.â He whispered.
