Holden LE, 1976. In order to utilise a surfeit of 2-door coupé bodyshells Holden created the Limited Edition, all of which were painted a metallic colour called LE Red. Though the coupé body had always worn the Monaro badge, for the HX series the name was dropped. In total 580 LE models were produced using an amalgam of prestige and surplus parts (including an eight-track cartridge player well after cassette tapes were common). The US sourced honeycomb wheels fitted to the LE, which resembled those of the second generation Pontiac Firebird, were created with a gold-painted plastic moulding adhered to conventional steel wheel rims.
