Don't get me wrong, I love him, but he's so manipulative. It's part of what makes him such an engaging character. And it's balanced, because Utage is 100% aware. She goes through it eyes open, like "Tamon is a massively successful idol who's entire job is to manipulate people into loving him. Him turning his entire power on one person is almost impossible to resist". And it was. He kept escalating until he reached his goal, not even stopping at SUICIDE. The man literally said he was willing to sell his brain (which obviously not, he can't be friends with her if he's dead), entirely for the purpose of manipulating her.

And it's just because he's desperate. He has no one else, and he WANTS no one else. He unapologetically uses everything in his arsenal to manipulate her without remorse.

And I just think that's pretty neat. People talk about Tamon's two-faced nature (its literally the name of the anime), but they don't talk about how much of that is intentional. It's calculated. Tamon is socially ostracised and anxious, sure, but that experience has also made him an expert at manipulation.

But Geto doesn’t tolerate those things, he ENJOYS them. He likes watching Satoru annoy the others, he humours Satoru when he’s trying to be annoying, he loves it when Satoru is demanding.

Satoru doesn’t know any other way to ask for things and Suguru LOVES when he asks for things, regardless of the method.

I can’t put it into words. Being loved in a way that you being a nuisance isn’t tolerated, but enjoyed. Because you are loved in every form, not just the ones that are useful, or the form you take to please others.

Even if you don’t know how to act lovable, you are loved anyway. That kind of love.

Ofc, Satoru is no less crazy about Suguru, just in a different way.

When it comes to BakuDeku, everybody needs to understand the DYNAMICS. Because, I do not ship canon Bkdk. I simply do not.

It cannot be “Kacchan sugoi” “yeah Deku be glad I allow you to worship me in my presence”

It can ONLY be when Izuku yearns and Bakugo yearns HARDER. Give me the years of misplaced guilt. The overturned power dynamics. Izuku tells bakugo to shut up AND HE SHUTS THE FUCK UP. There will be no anger issues in my ship.

Bakugo is Izuku’s biggest ally and advocate. Izuku loving him comes as no surprise, but Bakugo needs to act RIGHT.

Also follow up on this, (because I’ve been reading Bkdk fanfic and all of them are getting it WRONG):

Bakugo needs to GROVEL. A scene where he’s tearfully apologising and then izuku’s like “oh it’s ok Kacchan you’re different now it’s fine” and then Bakugo keeps calling him Deku and treating him the same like NO. NO!!

Immediate forgiveness is not good for increasing izuku’s self esteem, it’s not good for decreasing bakugo’s self esteem, and it does little middle school Deku a HUGE disservice.

Bakugo needs to apologise, and then EVEN IF Izuku forgives him, completely change how he treats him. No more Deku, no more demands, no more rough words. FIX YOURSELF. If your guilt isn’t at least that strong after suicide baiting the love of your life, I DONT WANT IT.

The best part of Bkdk is the slow redemption. Where bakugo takes weeks, months, years, to show Izuku how much he means to him. Years, to make up for the literal YEARS OF ABUSE.

I am begging people to let Izuku learn self love. Remember that the person you choose to be with says a lot about how much you love yourself? Yeah.

Bakugo can be the ideal lover if he ACTS RIGHT!! Bakugo is NOT the ideal lover if he is still calling Izuku the derogatory term he used to abuse him! Thats like if a white guy is calling his black boyfriend the n word, except instead of being the descendents, this is the ORIGINAL slaver and slave, calling him the n word!! While they’re in a “loving” relationship!

Don’t get me wrong I ship Bkdk more than any other pairing in the series, but the DYNAMICS need to be on point! And so many writers are just missing them entirely.

The Odyssey but retold as a low-stakes modern adventure of one guy out with his girlfriend leaving the bar with his buddies to do just one (1) simple thing real quick, it'll take like 15 minutes tops, he'll be right back, but then some bullshit happens and the trip keeps getting more complicated as more bullshit keeps happening while he just tries to get back to the bar because he promised his girlfriend that he'd get back and he knows that she's still there because she told him she'd wait there.

His girlfriend had been fending off the 5 drunk guys for most of the evening by explaining that even if she was going to ditch her boyfriend, she can't possibly leave without finishing her beer, which she is keeping perpetually full via careful sleight of hand where she's just pouring it back and forth into and out of the pitcher.

However the drunk guys are also drinking, and eventually she can't afford to buy another pitcher for the table so she can't keep up the ever-full beer glass trick. At this point she has to resort to setting up the pool trick shot that she's never seen anyone but her boyfriend pull off, and says she'll leave with whoever manages the shot first.

That buys her another hour or so and then, finally, her boyfriend makes it back. He looks like shit, hair down and just a mess, he's wearing an entirely different jacket that he got from an alley, and barely recognizable—especially to 5 guys who've been drunk for hours now. He lurks for a minute, finds out what's going on, and proceeds to pull off the trick shot first try. Throws the jacket off, fixes his hair with a hair tie his girlfriend lends him, finally looks like himself again, and THEN beats the shit out of them with the pool cue.

Suicidal Percy Jackson makes so much sense

It's confirmed that Percy has pretty much constant passive suicidal ideation throughout the books (which is valid for all the poor boy goes through).

But what's interesting about suicide in the PJO universe is that unlike every other fandom, in PJO death isn't finite. Percy KNOWS he's going to Elysium when he dies. Death would just be a transition into heaven for him. Taking that into account, is it any wonder that he's suicidal?

All other fandoms with suicidal ideation, death is an end to suffering. But in PJO, death is not only an end, but also a door to paradise. It would be almost impossible to resist, and adds a whole new level to the fandom for me.

To add proof, IN THE FIRST BOOK, when he falls from the St Louis arch into the river, he wishes his powers would allow him to drown. There are multiple times he expresses similar sentiments throughout the war, then when fighting Kym with Jason he considers just letting her kill him. This is a common theme throughout the series that Rick Riordan disguises with humour. That doesn’t make it any less real.

I just want to babble about Tamon-kun ima docchi (because I haven't already), but truly, isn't it one of the most unique, intricate dynamics ever seen in a romance manhwa?

Idol/Fan relationships aren't anything new. The appeal of getting with a man who is worshipped by millions. I get it. Being the One Special Girl he chose out of a sea of Other Girls. That are somehow lesser by virtue of not being chosen. Sure, sure. But in the end, that's just a fantasy. Getting with a supremely powerful man who is lusted after by thousands of women may sound good in theory (and to me it doesn't even sound good in theory) but the relationship inequalities will show at some point. You are simply never going to be equals in the relationship.

But here?? In this anime??

Like, Tamon-kun is a GLOBAL IDOL SENSATION. He has influence over millions of people. Meanwhile, Utage is a normal high school girl with a part time job.

BUT this normal girl is training him like a DOG. He is entirely at the mercy of her whims, relies on her praise to function at work, and is attuned to her signals and cues with automatic responses.

BUT despite the way he is obedient to her the way a dog is obedient to his trainer, SHE is also obsessed with HIM. Could offer him all the time she has, happy to be his servant, to be of use to him in any way, the slightest use of his "Tamon-kun" persona has his head exploding.

BUT he is also someone who faces incredible social limitations which she is currently bringing him out of. She is his first and only friend (for now). She is incredibly precious to him.

It's just. Usually there is no way to make the Idol/Fan relationship equal. It will always be unbalanced in some way. But here, we have Tamon begging to be Utage's FRIEND. Begging for her attention. And it makes sense! It's believable because of his personality. Their whole growth arc is about Utage slowly seeing him as a man more than a god, and Tamon worshipping her as a Goddess.

Rewatching Tamon-kun ima docchi as one does, and I find it absolutely hilarious how Utage has Tamon TRAINED LIKE A DOG within the first 10 mins of ep 1. For those that don't know, when you're training a dog, the main things to keep in mind are positive reinforcement, behaviour modification and conditioning.

Like, ofc she's aggressively on top of the positive reinforcement, but she's also regularly doing behaviour modification by changing his selfharming behaviours.

The funniest part tho is the conditioning: with a dog, you train them to react a certain way in response to certain stimuli. This is usually a pretty difficult and time consuming thing to do. Except Utage has him doing it within the first 10 mins of the series. Every time she uses a specific tone with him after he insults himself ("what did you say about Tamon-kun??"), she's got him trained to respond with some random self love comment ("Tamon-kun is a national treasure). She's not even cueing him anymore he's just fucking doing it.

She's got him at the highest level of dog training after like a week. What this tells me is that 1. Utage is an extremely efficient 'trainer', and 2. Tamon is EXTREMELY receptive to being trained.
