Summary:
This time when the phone rings, he’s ready. Ready in the only way he knows how to be, the way he would be on the ice: breath coming sharp, heart beating fast, adrenaline dripping. He’d known Shane would call again, the way he’d known Shane would get back on the ice in Detroit, wearing his shoulder injury like a badge. Shane can be very stubborn, sometimes. Shane should know better, this time. Ilya can’t be held responsible for whatever comes next. He picks up on the fifth ring.
“This doesn’t have to be so difficult,” Shane says. He doesn’t sound angry. Mostly, he just sounds tired.
Ilya laughs, manic around the edges.
“I am not supposed to be easy for you, Hollander,” he says, “Big arch rival. Haven’t you heard?”
Summary: Set during the timeline of the show, from the situationship era to the cottage. Over the years, Shane and Ilya learn how to talk to one another - bodies first, voices second.
