a little recap | the last two years đš
Cleo graduated - with honors! - from Hearst University (she thinks it's important to add that it was with honors.) She can officially introduce herself as "Cleo Somers, architect!" and she often does. After graduating, she got a job at a local architectural firm focused on restoring old buildings and making sure new builds match the "Barton Point aesthetic" or "vibe" (although the firm really wants her to stop saying that and start saying their goal is to "preserve the rich history of Barton Point"). She is no longer working at Graphite, but will occasionally sub in for classes or use the studio to paint. Some of her paintings have sold at auctions, and she's particularly proud of the ones hanging at the Hidden Arts Museum. Although it had always been a dream of hers to see her art in a gallery, she never thought it'd be possibleâ not if it wasn't tied to her last name. Cleo loves what she's doing and has been looking into getting an MFA in Interior Design.
After two years of living together in two separate apartments, Cleo and Riv decided to move in together to a cute, little two-bedroom apartment downtown. Despite how lovely it was, they quickly realized living in a small apartment with an ungodly amount of pets and clothes wasn't going to work out in the long run, so they decided to start looking at other places together. They had been eyeing a couple of rentals already when Cleo and Riv's dream house in Claremont went on sale. It was way out of their budget, but Cleo - trying to be financially independent from her parents - was already looking to get a second job somewhere, when Shelley stepped in. Wanting to repair her and her daughter's fraught relationship, Shelley bought them the house. It was complicated, to say the least. All Cleo wanted was to tell her mom to fuck off, that she and Riv "had it" even though they didn't, and it killed Riv to know it wasn't him buying Cleo a house, or them buying it together, but in the end, they couldn't say no. They moved in and have been putting a lot of love into the house, enjoying the domesticity of having a place that is their own. It's been so magical, they've even started discussing the possibility of starting a family. However... with River pursuing a career in filmmaking and Cleo looking to get her MFA in a program they don't have in Maine, they have been talking about moving to New York and having this be their holiday house (because yes, they are going to be those people with a holiday house).
And things have been truly wonderful for Cleo these last couple of years, but not everything has been as perfect as it seems. In 2023, Cleo began her journey towards sobriety, and this journey proved to be more difficult than expected. At first, Cleo was so determined to prove Shelley wrong â that they were nothing alike â that she got rid of every single drop of alcohol she had at home. Everyone in her life was incredibly supportive and sweet; they wouldn't drink in front of her, they encouraged her, celebrated her, and it made things feel easy. She attended A.A. meetings, was proud to deny drinks on nights out, but after the initial glimmer wore off, it started to take its toll. Every hangout came with wine and cocktails, teaching Paint and Sip nights at Graphite and not drinking made her feel awkward, and her creativity just wasn't coming to her as easily as when she drank! So she started having a glass or two every once in a while... in secret, because she was supposed to be sober, and she didn't want to let anyone down... and then little by little, it spiraled. She spiraled. It became harder to hide it from Riv, Savannah, Erica... everyone. She is definitely still struggling, but trying her very hardest to get better.

âYeah and we can do that times two. Girl I know, I already have the ice packs and nipple cream on standby.â She slid Cleoâs lunch toward her. âThey are just starting to sleep through the night. Though if one wakes up, they are both up.â
She thanks Savannah as she reaches for her bowl and immediately starts digging into it. âI bet. And how are you and Marissa handling it? Do you take turns? Are you both up when the twins get up?â she asks. âThis isââ she hums as she points to her bowl with her forkâ âdelicious, by the way.â
princess-savannahmâ:
âI know.â She gives her a sad pout as she leads her into the kitchen. âWeâre about the hit the teething phase and itâs safe to say we are both a little terrified.â
âOoh. Yeah,â Cleo made a face as she followed Savannah into the kitchen. âI hear they get a bit bitey during this phase. R.I.P. nipples,â she chuckles. âYouâre getting enough rest, though, right? Theyâre not keeping you up at night?â

âOh, god, Riv...â she wrapped her arms around herself for a moment as he explained what happened and wrapped them around him once he was done. This couldâve been a lot, a lot worse, but that didnât mean this wasnât bad enough already. âIâm glad they found her in time. I canât even imagineââ she pulled away and shook her head. She didnât even want to say it. Think it! âWhereâs Alex right now?â she asked. âIf you want, I- I can go pick her up later. If you want to stay here, wait for news. Iâll take her to lunch, distract her a bit, and then...â she trailed off. âAre we- um, telling her about this?â She asked. She wasnât sure what the right thing to do was. âAnd what have the doctors told you? Have you talked to anyone yet?â

Savannah smiled at Cleo as she ushered her inside the house. âHey⊠I ordered us a couple buddha bowls from The Copper Fig for lunch. We should have about 20 minutes before the twins are up and are gonna want to be fed.â She said as she walked them to the kitchen.Â
âI cannot believe how big the twins have gotten. Like, I swear they were this small yesterday!â she said, making about an inch with her fingers. âTheyâre going to be, like, graduating high school before we know it! A-and thanking me, their favorite aunt, in their valedictorian speech, which they both got because theyâre two little geniuses.â
"You're fine, Cleo! Why do you care what this random person thinks anyways?" Justin tried to not let other people's words get to him, but he actually cared a lot. That was part of the reason why he moved states. "Wait, who's Cassie?"
"I always care what people think! It's a curse passed down by my parents, who got it from their parents, and so on, so forth," she explained and then let out a laugh. "Cassie, from Euphoria. You didn't see that clip going around last year? Where they're like "Why do you look like a country music star?" and she goes "In a good way or a bad way!?" No?"

âYeah, Iâve still got a spare key. Iâll go round to see if I can get a suitcase together for Alex so she can stay with me for a few days until we know more. I just donât know what to tell her when I pick her up later.â River spoke down the phone to his father, pacing back and forth outside Abernathy Medical Centre. What had started as a stressful day at work had only gotten worse since receiving a call that his mother had been hospitalized. He was chatting back and forth before he said his goodbyes, hanging up and leaning against the wall when he saw your character walking up. âOh, hi.â He forced a smile.Â
"Hey," Cleo said as she walked up to River, jogging the last couple of steps to wrap her arms around him. "How are you doing? Have you eaten yet?" she asked, gently brushing a piece of hair away from his face. "I brought some food from Eddie's. I was on my way to class when I got your text; I thought maybe you hadn'tâ" she tried to explain but realized she wasn't exactly sure why she'd stopped to get the food. She closed her eyes and shook her head slowlyâ "I don't know. Are you okay?" she asked, squeezing his arm as she tried to gauge how he was dealing with all of this. She knew they weren't close, but Cleo knew complicated relationships sometimes carried the most weight. Even if you don't want them to.
margot-collinsâ:
âNah youâre not annoying. They are probably just having a bad day and wanted to feel better about themselves. Though I will say, Iâve never met a more perfect person to have their own reality show.â
âThank you! Thank you. See, you, Margot, have vision,â she said with a nod. âI had never felt so attacked in my life- not even when my momââ actually, letâs not get into that. Point is, it wasnât what they said, it was the way they said it.â
princess-savannahmâ:
âOkay one.. you do have the perfect personality for a reality show. You would be right up there with the Kardashians. Babe youâre not annoying, you have the perfect amount of drama and storytelling ability to hook an audience.âÂ
âI hope so! Because while I definitely do not dream about being in The Bachelor or Love is Blind anymore - or any of those other horrible dating shows that never really end well for anyone involved - I- I am not discarding the possibility of me being a Real Housewife whenever they decide to do the Maine edition of the show. Or- New Jersey if I ever go back.â She said, putting her hands up. âI appreciate you for saying that, S, I- was spiraling,â she said, flashing her a smile. âI was like âDoes everyone hate me? Is that what they are saying?ââ
"Well..." he started, flashing her a shit-eating grin. "Nah, I'm just teasing. You're not the most annoying person in the world. You're just... very talkative."
Cleo made a face and shook her head. "In a good way or a bad way!?" she asked, mortified. "Not to sound all- Cassie right now, butâ" she trailed off with a nervous chuckle, bracing herself for whatever his answer may be.
