whAT JUST HAPPENED
Talking to my transphobic/homophobic mother last week
Me (We were on the subject of clothes and dressing for comfort): I actually really like boy clothes, their pants are always looser and they have bigger pockets.
9 y/o brother: Same. I think it's cool for girls to wear boy clothes except they always steal it from us.
11 y/o sister: Yeah i remember he used to put on my cowgirl boots and tutus and stuff
Me: Oh yeah (lel)
11 y/o sister: Honestly though i don't have a problem with girls wearing boy clothes but it's weird for guys to wear like dresses and stuff.
Me (trying not to rant to a middle school age girl): Well i mean ideally, society could portray every type of clothing as gender neutral so guys could wear dresses and people like you wouldn't call it weird.
Mom: it's not natural to crossdress. I think it's not anyone's place to do things designed for the other gender when God specifically made you your gender for a reason.
Me: ...
Me: Did you even hear what i just said?
Mom (ignores me and continues): I just wonder why people question their gender and sexuality so much, i think it's wrong.
Me: Well, y'know, it's God's place to judge. You say that to me every time i criticise someone's eyebrows. So guys, i want you to know that from a *Nonbiblical* perspective, being gay or being bi or transgender or anything else isn't wrong. You're not hurting anyone--
Mom (cuts me off): Your mentality is a lot different than mine and i don't think we should be having this discussion right now okay?
Me: You're straight up banning my opinions because they're not the same as yours. All based on a discussion that you started by talking about God.
Mom: i don't want them to grow up thinking being gay or transgender is natural.
Me: Way to be a loving, accepting Christian, Mother. Ten points to Gryffindor. And for the record, it's really not unnatural. Society is shifting, and frankly homophobia is getting a bit outdated. Much like the Old Testament.
Me: -puts in headphones-
