How to read scientific papers part 1
So, my major challenge when I first went into researh were the research papers I had to read. I used to just read them, without understanding a word of what was said there (seriously), so it was just really tedious to me, not productive at all and I wasn’t learning anything or making the most of my time in the lab since I wasn’t able to apply new concepts properly. But as time passed and I got more experienced, I found and developed a method that works pretty well for me, it helps me analyze and understand so I can later apply what I learned in my own research and time in the lab. It does take more time that just skimming through it, but it’s so worthy, trust me. But note that this may not work for everyone, it’s just a method I developed by experience (and honestly it’s pretty simple and typical) and also learning from others, which happened to be very effective to me.
WHAY YOU WILL NEED
2 highlighters: one for findings in the research you are reading, one for general and “universal” concepts mentioned.
Your article
A notebook (try to have one exclusive for the research project you’re doing, if that’s the case, with a section for articles read that can be helpful)
The first thing you’ll do is write the title in the notebook, because this will help understand the whole article. The title ususally has the ability to summarize everything in a sentence: it’s basically the hypothesis and procedure in one.
Second, we’ll work a little with the abstract. It’s a really small summary of everything but it contains the most common abreviations used throughout, so, we’ll extract and write them down to have them in handy while we read.
3. Usually the abstract has it too, the hypothesis, we have to find what was done or what was tried to prove with this research.
4. Now, we analyze the introduction, tough simple and general, it can help us understand concepts better so we can later apply them. I like to make maps, charts and diagrams with the info so I can make sure I’m processing it correctly, and if I have any doubts I’ll just look it up!
HIGHLIGHTING
If important information is regarding the research itself, like a result or something like that, I’ll highlight it with one color
If and important concept is mentioned, but it’s a universal or general concept, I’ll highlight it using another colorm because it might be useful later, (like what are anthocyanins, or the explanation of a procedure commonly used)

Troubling direction the DOE leads us too
Yay though I walk in the shadow of the DOE… But, I shall forgive them if they haven’t thought of this already developed tool. Really that is what this idea comes from is attaching realistic tools already compiled and developed with miss used intentions coming from others who didn’t see the object as doable. But, why? Sounds a lot like the algae problem the DOE has where they can’t grow enough Algae to make bio-fuels a realistic opportunity. OK while I figured out the Algae problem and await some financing on that realm let’s look at the Hydrogen economy as a fundamental misdirection.
Hydrogen economy is being proposed as a shift in the direction of future fuels to power our vehicles that transports us in all facets, Automobiles, Trucks, Trains, Ocean going vessels etc. What they are pushing for is for every man woman and child to use inefficient means to accomplish this task. There is a better way let me explain my knowledge of Hydrogen and the device (s) that can utilize more efficient means to convert Hydrogen into electricity.
Hydrogen in a gaseous form is still not the best way to release the energy stored in H2 which is short for Hydrogen. H2 is a much better source of energy density when we release its full capacity using plasma the 4th energy state. Did you know there are 141 MJ/Kg spelled out for those not so literate in advanced chemistry as 141 Mega Joules per Kilogram. This equates to the highest form of energy stored at 700 bar (one bar equals one atmosphere or 16 Psi x 700 = high pressure). So we need to convert the H2 to a plasma and then use something called a DEC or Direct Energy Converter as the best method to capture the energy in hydrogen not a fuel cell of any make or model. At best Fuel Cells are just 47% efficient, where only 47% of the energy is converted to electricity. The residual of that 47% is produced in heat, which does not fare well in getting your car or other device the energy it needs to operate. Utilizing H2 using a specialized device I will not mention but, (it has been around since the 1930’s) it can take the energy density of the H2 in plasma and convert nearly 95% of the energy directly to electricity. If you are as inquisitive as I am, there is a way to push that envelope even farther to 99.4% efficient conversion. Then why oh why are we focusing on inefficient fuel cells? Everything I have mentioned is available today, several companies build the devices but use them for different applications no one I guess thought to look at putting two or three unique machines together to make such an efficient machine.
Attention all Brown Gas producers – You know who you are if you used my device you would have enough energy to convert water on the road producing H2 and utilize all you need to propel the car or truck you’re driving down the road, and still have some left over for storage.
Creative Enthusiasm – Exploring Self Awareness
As an Innovator dealing in the realm of Energy I am not surprised that my colleagues are impressed that my focus is not solely focused on generating the energy but, in making it the most efficient. To wallow in self-exploration is a true gift not a condemned recipe for disaster. There are no online self-help books for dealing with a creative innovator, I have looked for others like me, its relentless yet unfulfilling too. If we are like other people then we are certainly off the cliff different too. We think in a different realm but, I certainly take my thinking seriously and how to push myself to think in a creative manner.
How do I reach this state of anxiousness (creative realm thoughts) yet ability to conjure up real solutions in such a short time of less than 48 hours? Let me explain that is I, who will push me to extort my own physical capabilities to garner the best solution in the quickest time. Since I live in a home and reside nearby to most people, I don’t live in a cave and wonder through open field so of grass no nothing like that. I really am just like you and your neighbor I just prefer to push my limits with self-controlling my environment. I am just not one to be physically active walking, running, or even swimming are not my cup of tea. It’s the other things of physical stamina that I practice to maintain my creative side of capabilities. If you’re wondering what it is that I try to push myself its self-controlling all the daily habits we must do as humans, yes each and every one of us must relieve ourselves of waste material each and every day. Yup you got that right its crazy but in reality but I hold my need to go just long enough that my mind resorts to thinking of the shortest route to the restroom to relieve myself. This production seems odd but your mindset will work very hard to find ways to conjure up the need to solve any problem with ease once you push your own limits. This is how I push my own limits you may find a different way to solve problems, any problems.

As an Innovator I am never satisfied with the final draft, which is true it is always a draft for me. I like to improve on already existing technology, some technology needs advancing to the point of a complete redo. Since I delve into the realm of energy it is the need to use less that drives me to look at alternatives all the time. I prefer not to share my ideas unless I can see that I will never have the combined finances to make such an item work. Computers are one of the most used items now that Steve Jobs made it easy and usable for all. That one item led us to the desktop computer, exactly what I am writing this letter on. The one item I can see not actually needs improvement in energy conservation as the CPU builders are doing a fine job at that, it’s the Power Supplies that rattle my nerves. This loud duration of noise exudes irritability. I am not satisfied with the noise level (it’s an energy driven object) so I set out to find a solution. There is a little known set of desktop demonstrations of something called ‘Lifters’ with the use of high voltage you can place some material around light weight structure ( many people use sipping straws as the structural material) to support the designed envelope. Air will flow through the channeled apparatus and cooling of the required implements can occur. But we need to really focus on the reduction of noise each and every person has to deal with on a daily basis. In order to hear activities in our lives we need to focus on what is most important, reducing the noise is best suited when trying to have a conversation with the least amount of interruption.

Climate change rejectionists are now very out of date
They have had a good few years, at least in the Anglo-Saxon world, but – now that the ink is drying on the worldchanging Paris agreement – it’s worth asking what the climate rejectionists have actually managed to achieve. And its hard to escape this conclusion: not much at all.
For years the rejectionists - I won’t call them deniers, but ‘sceptics’ is a polite misnomer – seemed to sweep all before them. They came to control both houses of the US Congress. They set government policy in both Canada and Australia. And they came to dominate the comment columns in the centre-Right British press. Yet now they are looking increasingly dated, even irrelevant.
For there is little room for doubt that the agreement will change history, ushering in the greatest change since the Industrial Revolution as the world moves to a low (and eventually, no) carbon economy. It is designed for the long term, ratcheting up every five years until net human emissions of greenhouse gases are eliminated.
Whether it will succeed in doing this in time to avoid dangerous climate change is another question -though it should be said that any targets are likely to be outstripped by the effects of investors and companies rushing to make money out of the clean technologies that will dominate in the changed world. But my point is that the rejectionists - for all their power and influence – failed to prevent the agreement, or even to weaken it. Indeed what emerged from Paris was much stronger than anyone expected.
Of course the rejectionists suffered two big blows in the run-up to the conference, the switching of the Canadian and Australian Governments to the other side – in the antipodes merely by a change in Prime Minister, in Canada after an election. Worse for them, the two countries - after years of obstructionism – were in the forefront of calling for radical action in Paris; new premier Justin Trudeau’s barnstorming speech announcing that “Canada is back!” was one of the highlights of the two-week session.
But the rejectionists’ greatest failure has been in the country where they are strongest, the United States, where President Obama successfully ignored, or bypassed, Congress to do more than any head of government to ensure a strong agreement. Making tackling climate change one of the principal themes of his second term, he has travelled the world persuading other leaders to join him in making Paris a success – most notably forming a partnership of the world’s top two polluters with China. Meanwhile, at home, he evaded Congressional obstruction by taking action to clean up by executive order.
Conversely they have probably had (and continue to have) most impact in a country where they have enjoyed little formal power, England. Not that they had any influence on Britain’s stance in Paris, which was both radical and effective.
They do however seem to have persuaded the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, to emasculate renewable energy and (even more crazily) energy efficiency programmes and to boost the expansion of fossil fuels, mainly in England.
But even this will have no real effect on the battle against climate change. The whole of the UK produces less than two per cent of the world’s carbon emissions: slowing reductions in this small proportion will make little global difference. All George Osborne’s dash to the past will achieve is making it much less likely that Britain will benefit from the new, clean, industrial revolution – with incalculable effects on its own economy. That will be the UK’s tragedy, but the rest of the world will be more than able to live with it.
Of course all this could change if the Republicans won the US Presidency next year, while retaining control of Congress. At present that looks unlikely, but you never know. Yet it is hard to see anyone other than a political lunatic (and I admit one or two of the GOP candidates might meet that description) would try to stand in the way of the irresistible economic forces likely to be unleashed by Paris agreement.
It really does look as if climate change rejectionism has now had its day.
Racing Extinction - Solutions do exist

I want to be an Innovator
This is my life and how I perceive Innovation, these are my thoughts and how I share the way I handle terminology and exposure to my way of understanding in general terms Innovators.
A breed like no other person on this planet. Focused an attentive to solving a problem; I refer to this methodology with a word that does not exist in normal English vocabulary. But, to admire your inquisitiveness to continue with this documentary I will entertain you with how I proceed when ever tasked by a problem to solve. There is no limit to how many questions I will bombard you with, I will ask every calculable question that I feel needs to be addressed. If I can see the actual location of stated problem for which it exists then I can get a better feeling and observe the actual workings of stated problem to begin my process of solving stated Problem, if not be very aware that I will drive you crazy asking hoards of questions to which I need ti fill out every insurmountable situation to solve such a problem. With each question I am filling in that box that many of you call it, I can’t get past the silliness that you suggest that standing outside a box is better then standing in side that box. So silly. What I am trying to do is solve that problem, the less questions I have to ask because I see the actual problem first hand the less your hears will bleed with my asking those blasted questions. Do you think I am kidding, you have never experienced first hand what a real innovator is like when we get started. I don’t even need the word go and my mind is working to draw up that box outside a box reference just so you are following me.
Any task takes an effort to overcome, if I can imagine that task in my head and the equipment or details you can explain to me then I can get past a hoard of questions I don’t have to ask, comprende?
Observation of stated problem is much better then just overwhelming those who have to answer to my overwhelming questions. Seeing an object work or attempt to work is better then yep those blasted questions.
Example: Lets remember I am not a Biologist nor am I an Engineer yet I have read so many different and diverse situations on these subjects sometimes people forget I am not one of these highly qualified individuals and treat me with respect in these fields. One compliment that never goes bad. Just because I am not highly advanced in any numerous science realms doesn’t lead you to think I am not well versed in many different realms of science and some past normal college education.
The Problem: A need for electricity generation where water falls over rocky mounts on a stream falling maybe 90 feet in elevation on private property. The owner knows I have experience in energy development and wants my best guess on how much energy he can produce over 20 years. First thing I ask is can he take me to the falls or running water? With his response of yes, the Innovator has started his next project. What ends up being a consuming few weeks returns with lackluster results in that I can’t be right because I am not a P.E. engineer but the man asked, and I stated I would help him give him some insights. Upon reaching the water falls, there was enough water, both sides of the falls were owned by this man - that is a good thing, Location was so far from the road that any equipment to haul anything to the location would need a road built but again all on his land. The nearest Electric lines were the clincher to reach the lines would have needed more than 3 miles of lines laid out and installed or buried underground. And for the little energy the willing local Electric backbone willing to pay for energy would not pay for the installation to make it worth the mans effort. But, remember he came to me? He went out and hired a P.E. and he stated to him that he would get a return in about 50 years worth of payback. But this time he spent nearly $10,000 for the engineer to give him this answer. After many years the man came back to me with his tail between his legs and apologized to me personally soon after he passed away from a heart attack. Here he wanted to give the energy production operation to his children as a hand over gift, I wise decision would have been to ready to hear the same recourse if they had just listened to me but remember I am not an engineer.
Problem #2: A water pond used by local horses for fresh water refreshment during summer months was filling with algae. A childhood friend came to me with questions and asked if I could recommend something that would not cost much. I suggested a barley ball for placement in the center of their pond. At $29.95 they were squeamish, I suggested we try something less costly, we walked through their paddock and picked up some hay that looked moldy, I went into the tack room and found a hay bag that looked worn out and asked if I could use it first, then assembled moldy hay in the hay bag, and found twine to tie off the bag as I floated the mess into the center of the pond. I told them to call me in three days if there was no change, lucky for me the next morning I had a phone call and stated it was a miracle. No I stated its science. It’s simple biology, they are called amino acids of the one that most benefits the removal of algae from any pond is Phenylalanine which happens to have the same properties as a hydrophobic thus as the amino acid is produced by the decomposing hay ( in this case it was barley straw - the preferred straw) the algae retreat from the location. This same amino acid is placed into soda cans to keep the soda away from the walls of the metal can because of adding that metal taste no one likes in their soda pop.
Problem #3: Carbon society wants to remove the carbon from our world. I am sorry have they taken a good look in the mirror lately, Folks we are carbon based life forms, We are made from carbon, we eat carbon based food, and breathe through a carbon related atmosphere. We are so nurtured on developing carbon-less industry we must first get past the transition to reach carbon reduced we need to work with what we have. Will it take hurdles of cash yes it will but, we can get there if we get started and very soon. Along the way and after a manned space mission to the moon we will acquire fusion, but not before we land on the moon once more!
Solved #1: @MARG_Energy has developed a simple approach to solving the existing carbon emission problem. All the technology exists nothing new has to be developed. We made it easy for the world, we just need to assemble and deploy our product. We can’t move forward with out Seed Capital, we should be able to clean the air around the globe by 2030 but we can’t get started with out funding.

Innovators – Time to Step out
In the summer of 2012 I was introduced to someone from York College, York PA who changed my life from that day forward. What she told me was that I was an Innovator, she handed me a book and I read it from front to back nearly 3 times. The book describes my tactics in how I uncover the nuances of how everything works. My life’s dream was to solve as many problems as I could conjure a way to do so. Such a feeling of awe inspires me to be still searching as I awake each morning with that simple quest of solving one more hurdle. Each day brings new insight into how new stuff is brought to market and each day I uncover the flaws of their marketing team. You have it all back ass wards let me permit you to see what I am seeing, and what we can do to change the world.
I like simple things, and yes as a very wise man stated the simpler the thing the better the outcome. He is absolutely correct, to do more with less is the ultimate solution you’re searching for in every situation. I have come to that same solution but instead of building fancy machines we can accomplish so much more with less moving parts and just refer all our work back to Advanced Chemistry. Yes Chemistry in the realm of atoms with the respectful valence electrons, neutrons, and protons. Sometimes the hardest items to make something work can be utilized with less energy in to make more energy out. Sometimes it’s the chemistry of that new product that works on a simple line from creative minds that fool us into assembling a device from many pieces when a single unit is all that is needed. One item or no moving parts can offer the same solution if you look hard enough. Trust me it’s in the chemistry that makes up all material you can and cannot hold in your hand.
FCEV – Stands for Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle; here is a simple approach by pushing hydrogen through a very fine industrial grade sieve. It takes energy to push the hydrogen through that sieve. The chemistry to convert the hydrogen into water creates heat and thus the energy you develop to convert the water to hydrogen is now over the CAPEX. FCEV is not the easiest or simplest way to convert hydrogen to electricity in fact there is a simpler way to do it and get nearly 100% conversion. Again it is advanced chemistry and a little mathematics and you should find the answer.
Did you know the Internal Combustion Engine is over 150 years old? There is something that can replace it, and you guessed it, it doesn’t’ have any moving parts and yet it is nearly 100% efficient!
Graphene has been pushed out to utilize a crazy idea of propelling heat similar to products that are water or oil phobic. Graphene is heat phobic. Describing heat phobic is best to allow the people who described it for me let you in on their attempt to pull heat from deep under the earth to the surface without transferring some liquid holding that heat. So let’s say you find accesses to Earth Crust Mantle Heat say about 500°F; you could place a strong of this Graphene stuff against the hot spot, and instantaneously the other end of that string would be the same temperature. Yet the middle of the string would be cool to the touch.
Graphene could also be used to save water too. If you can transfer heat? Why not the absence of heat or something cold to the touch? This way you could reduce the amount of water you need to cool power generation facilities with much less wasteful water use. This in turn would permit reduced water usage and allow good water for the human race.

Pyrolysis – It isn’t the best solution = Next Steps
Taking an old antiquated solution to producing energy to be used again is not utilizing Pyrolysis. I say this with eschewed fundamental flaws entwined in a savage world that demands efficiency and ultimately green environmental benefits for all.
What if we took this fuel source and instead of pyrolysis we bumped up the ignition to the next energy state – yes Plasma. With plasma you would excite all the carboniferous materials towards a more fulfilling or complete usage of material. You will continue to have ash as a leftover but the ash is more cleanly separated than using just the pyrolysis method. Less leftovers results in more sterilizing efforts to a pure stream of fuel.
Plasma works by exciting a gas then placing an electrical circuit where by a charge of high voltage is used to convey the charged particles in a precise amplified point to heat and disassemble materials like steel and harder materials. The gas is flowing out of the nozzle at speeds of nearly 30,000 mph all through that tiny opening.
Ok big thinkers lets convert that mixture of action into electrical energy that is clean enough and vibrant enough to do just about anything. Using a Helmholtz coil placed around the exposed exhaust of the plasma opening you would turn the plasma excited charged particles into electricity. This method is direct and no additional apparatus are required to then take the off gas of the Pyrolysis machine and use cumbersome and bulky apparatus to fulfill a heat or electricity generating operation. Less cumbersome and more efficient that is the name of the game.
Carotenoids – Production Market worth by 2019
Carotenoids at their current wholesale prices have risen some 18% in the past 2 years do to demand of the natural sourced product. There has been an increased amount of artificial product coming onto the market yet with this product come some unknown adverse effects as testing of such material has not been reviewed by the FDA at this time.
Animal feed with this beneficial attribute shows great potential in another mainstream introduction in healthier livestock including from beef to chickens, and from pork to fish from aquaculture. Because of the price increase many in the feed industry are utilizing the artificial non-organic produced carotenoids to enhance their livestock.
Reading extensive details into carotenoids found in our body’s through the NIH Web site I found this report helpful in understanding our body’s blood stream showcasing these carotenoids and their values. Most of these reports were acquired during the late 1980’s and through the mid 1990’s covering more than 100,000 women mostly in their 50’s & 60’s. With additional reading about the benefits of these nutraceuticals we find a potential for increased requests by the public about being taught the benefits of carotenoids in their food stuffs.
As with any increased awareness comes additional requests and so the potential for increased demand will be placed against the naturally grown carotenoids to be the first and foremost highest profit drawing newcomers to the Algae derived market share. These newcomers are the ones to watch as they are clearly developing more productive operations to obtain these highly prized and high valued products either in liquid or powdered forms.
A little Rant
I don’t find myself coming to this blog very often so let me distinguish today’s thinking as delightful to be able to dispel some good thought.
Good people in your life bring joy to your mindset when fresh ideas are developed by kind words spoken. Those words took hold of me Thursday and kindred spirits released some serious potential. I find myself at another pinnacle of development in bettering our system design one step further. Today March 22 2015 I am telling the world through this portal that Version #11 is complete.
Algae grown at the highest rate from the smallest footprint is the theme here! Version #11 takes this concept farther towards ultimate productivity with the introduction of one more principled element in the design equation. Its hard to improve on something that already stands alone in its ability compared o the rest of the industry, yet its hard to overlook advancing without this nuance. Like previous comments here I won’t divulge the secret that moves us to Version #11 over Version #10 but, I will say a little wow creeps from my lips as I wallow in exuberance.
Without actually testing the theory I can see more than 10% improvement. With this advancement in design we get even closer to maximizing our potential to grow more algae than any other algae grower in the world.
