"You were more than that," he replies with his smile, his eyes trained ahead of him as he finishes off the rest of the coffee. His body is pleasantly number now.. Yeah, like this he should be able to fly again, at least long enough to find his mask and go back home.
He sets down the mug and stands up slowly, his legs trembling slightly with the effort but his expression unphased. He smiles at her. “I’ll take my leave now, then.”
"Alright! I'll see you out then Kraatz."
It did feel pleasant being able to help someone again, especially since she was mostly successful in doing so. She can't help but slightly wish that he would come back and visit.
Maybe next time we could have a proper cup of coffee together.
Aislin leads him to the front of the shop, past a couple of doors in the back and through the preparation area/counter in the main room.
"The pleasure is all mine! I believe it’s been two days or so, fifty two… No, fifty three hours, so slightly longer. I’m mainly looking for good places or shops to eat and relax at, and also anything you might have to offer on the workings of the lower district, as I haven’t visited it yet. Lastly would be any places hiring workers, part time or full time is fine. Oh, and your name if you wouldn’t mind; it’s a tad hard to address you properly without it."
While the questions were simple enough he had quite a plethora of them to ask, and thus spoke slightly slower to accentuate each one, wishing to avoid rushing or overwhelming the girl.
Ahhh, man. What a lot of questions indeed...
"Let's see... So you haven't been here for long. Mm, I haven't been around to too many shops but I do run my own. It's a coffee shop and we've been a bit understaffed recently..."
She doesn't know how to feel about this guy. He seems nice, but people in this city can be especially deceiving.
"And my name is Aislin, nice to meet you. Would you like to sit down?"
Patting the space next to her, she scoots over to make room for him.
"Well, if you’re sure…" She trails off, uncertain. Conversations have always been a problem for her, but Aislin seems really nice. I don’t want to scare her away… but… I’m really weird… She picks at the hem of her shirt nervously.
"This district… i-it’s really nice here. But… eh… it’s scary, somehow, for me." She laughs softly, almost uncomfortable with her forced conversational skills. I don’t know what I’m doing…
"Scary? Ah, I guess so if you're from the rich district. Some people can be a bit intimidating, yes! But quite a few of them are nice."
She pauses for a moment before adding on,
"Just don't wander around here too much at night. Not everyone is a saint."
elvishsolitaire:
Noticing the small fidget, he decided to eliminate any worries that the girl might have had with an honest smile, accompanied by a simple statement of purpose as well as his request.
"Pardon my intrusion, I’m Eliath, I arrived in this strange city very recently. I know that we have not met before, but I find myself short of resources to draw on at the moment having not met anyone as of yet. Could I trouble you to tell me a bit about the area? Just a few simple questions, I’ll leave shortly after if you so desire."
His voice kept the same naturally disarming tone it had carried earlier, flowing as naturally as a poet reciting verse. It was clear that Eliath had no fear of interaction with her, though his tone ran the risk of sounding underhanded to anyone particularly paranoid or overcautious of others.
He has a very formal way of speaking...
"Nice to meet you Eliath... And how recent do you mean? I'm not exactly the best person to ask but... I'll try my best!"
She answers wholeheartedly, even though she is still trying to figure out how the city works as well. Especially since she has spent most of the time in her shop.
Huh, now that I think about it this isn't the first time that I've made an introduction with someone that needs assistance. Strange.
Mei smiles sheepishly. “My name… my name is Mei. It’s nice to meet you too.” She stretches slightly. “I’m sorry, if I interrupted you earlier. I’m sure you were… ah… I have bad timing, so that’s why…”
"Hmm, it's really not a problem Mei. No need to worry yourself over it~ It was a menial task anyway, I can always do it another time."
Aislin flashes Mei a reassuring grin. Besides, she's happy someone had decided to stop by and chat.
Kraatz looks up from his cup as Aislin approaches; he gives a nod of thanks and scoops up a handful of the ribbons, depositing them into the trash can.
"The coffee’s great; the herbs actually complement them somehow," he answers truthfully, flashing a small smile. "And I’m actually feeling better now.. I should be able to leave soon."
He’s right; the combination of the herbs and his own regenerative abilities are ebbing away the pain. “Thank you for all this.”
A look of contentment etches itself onto Aislin's face. No matter how many times she is thanked, she always always always appreciates it. It might be because she works in the service industry, but it's a nice gesture and it makes her feel appreciated. Especially when she is able to properly assist someone.
"Oh, that's great! I'm glad that I was able to help."
Hearing the soft pitter-patter of footsteps Eliath unhooked the last fish he had caught and released it back into the pond before standing up and turning toward the source of noise: the girl now sitting on the bench.
One look told him what he needed to know, she seemed like a person who knew a bit more about the ins and outs of the area, and seemed reasonably approachable. While he may come off as intrusive, he thought, the chance he could make an acquaintance in the largely unfamiliar city outweighed any misgivings he may have had.
He began walking toward the girl at a leisurely pace, calling out a “Hello there!” in way of greeting.
EEEEEHHHH?! Why is he coming over this way? Have I seen him before? Do we know each other? He isn't a customer... Right?
That wasn't what she was expecting at all. Actually, Aislin had thought the bench was far enough away from the shore... Well, not that it mattered anymore. The strange guy was already basically right in front of her. She fidgets slightly before giving him a small wave in response.
"Ah, hello there."
Kraatz watches her leave before turning his attention back onto the cup. He sniffs it again before taking a tentative sip; the coffee and herbs turn out to make a nice flavor, and he drinks it slowly, enjoying the warmth that spreads throughout his body. I can’t remember the last time I’ve had coffee.. he thinks—at his place the drink’s somewhat of a luxury.
"Is it alright? I hope the herbs aren't overpowering the coffee or anything."
She asks, albeit a bit nervously. It's the first time she's helped someone in a long time so she could be doing everything wrong.
"And how are you feeling? A bit better or?"
"O-oh! Thank you very much, miss!" She grabs the mug carefully and chugs the bitter liquid down. She has a wide smile and sighs in content. "It's really really good... thank you!" There's a slight pause, and Mei says, "Uhm... I don't remember if I caught it... what's your name again?" She laughs awkwardly as she places the mug on the counter, embarrassed with her horrible memory.
"Of course; it is my job you know."
Aislin replies to the other girl with a smile.
"And it's Aislin, nice to meet you... I actually do not think I caught your name either."
Having used up the majority of his first morning in the city exploring the working district he had gotten a good feel for the area; he had few possessions, making the moving process little more than dropping his standard traveling pack in his room. He was using his free time sitting on the bank of a pond, leisurely fishing with a simple stick-and-line construction using bait made from some leftover food he had cooked for meals a few days before. He quietly mused to himself:
"Even using something as basic as this the fish are biting. The state of living here seems quite different from the tundra."
His voice had a distinctly melodious quality to it; he was obviously amused at the ease at which he caught the animals as well as the relative natural beauty of the small body of water. His highly sensitive ears, while mostly hidden by his longer hair, were constantly listening for activity around him in hopes that he might come across someone in the open area.
As it so happens to be, Aislin had decided to go for a walk not too long ago.The shop’s business had become fairly consistent over the past couple of weeks and she needed a small break.
Who knew the residents here enjoyed coffee so much? She muses to herself, walking into one of the working district’s parks.
Of course she isn't paying attention to where she's going, it's a break after all. Aimlessly walking in the park, she sees a... Pond in the distance?
Ah, I didn't even know there was a pond here... And someone else as well?
Yes indeed, upon further inspection there is another person at the pond. But the real question is if Aislin felt like introducing herself or not. Instead of going up to him, she seats herself on a nearby bench instead of going near the man sitting at the edge of the pond.
Flan + Licorice
Cy: I… don’t believe I have seen you before…
A flan for you as well…
"She is…", Cyrus replied as he looked back at the small animal resting on his shoulder, yet as soon as he replied Cyrus noticed the strained tone of voice of the young girl.
"A-Ah but… don’t worry about her… she won’t do anything… to disturb you", the wizard added, petting Mavis’s head delicately.
"By the way… where do you work…?", Cyrus asked as he realized he hadn’t really spent much time outside the shop to know the people living around. ‘I should… go out more…’, he thought.
She nods, trusting Cyrus's word.
"I appreciate it. And I work at the coffee shop on the corner."
It's a fairly nondescript building. Heck, there's only a small 'Open' sign on the door.
Kraatz gives her a faint, apologetic smile as he takes the cup from her. “Thank you.” The mug warms his hands, and he breathes in the scent of coffee and.. herbs? He can see the leaves in the liquid, but strangely enough it doesn’t smell bad at all.
"Well, a towel is possible.. A trash can also is too, for these ribbons," he adds, gesturing at all the scraps that sat by him. "Sorry. I was cleaning."
"Of course, it's not a problem at all."
She turns and goes to the corner of the room to a set of cabinets. Opening one of the drawers, Aislin pulls out a couple of medium-sized towels. A trash can is over by the same corner, so she picks that up and brings it with her on the way back over to Kraatz.
Mei bit her lip in thought, staring at the items the girl placed on the counter curiously. “Ah… I… don’t know…?” She laughs at her own statement. I don’t even know anything about myself anymore… "Black coffee would be fine, I think…" She tries to make herself seem confident by making eye contact but becomes too embarrassed and looks away quickly.
"One black coffee, coming right up ma'am."
Aislin gathers the ingredients and puts the sugar and milk back up, seeing as how black coffee requires none of them. She then grabs the mug and pours her customer straight, black coffee.
"Here you go, enjoy."
If anyone needs to get in-contact with me then I can give out my Skype. But I’ll probably just be on my main account reblogging things because that doesn’t require a lot of attention.
So my sister broke her arm again.
