And that was certainly helpful. Scootaloo had been worried that she was annoying Rainbow Dash — mainly with her lack of progress. But hey, not if she was willing to do this.
The smaller pony snuggled into her side and feigned innocence with her typical babble.
"So, didja do anything cool today, Rainbow Dash? Break any new records? Zap an unsuspecting pony in the flank?" Wow, mean spirited kid.
"Well, there was this one trick I planned on workin' on today. Which reminds me, I need to go ask Applejack if she--" Wait. Maroon eyes shifted to the side for a second to eye Scootaloo over, an idea coming to mind.
"Actually.. how would you like to help me? It's gonna be awesome."
scooterboundcrusader replied to your post:Do you think Scootaloo is annoying?
"Well, of COURSE I’m not annoying!" /shift shift. that nervous shift was kind of telling scoots.
Rainbow proceeded to wrap one of her wings around the younger pegasus, pulling her close against her side.
"Not in the slightest."
Do you think Scootaloo is annoying?
"No?"
"Why would I? I took the kid under my wing, didn’t I? She’s like.. a sister. Yeah, a sister. She ain’t annoying."
Rarity cowering behind Rainbow Dash in Sweet and Elite.
+ aspirations
"But of course it does, Rainbow Dash! But… nothing would feel right without you. And the others, of course." She couldn’t seem to word that she’d be lonely. Originally she had figured she would be so busy that she wouldn’t have to feel so, but that idea vanished when she found herself alone at night with Opalescence curled up near hoofs. Her friends were truly everything to her. A few mere visits would never sate her. It seemed to her that she’d grown even more dependent on her friends as time passed.
Yet when she thought about designing clothes the word “happy” didn’t seem to describe it. It made her more than. It was a part of who she was; just as her friends were. She didn’t want to make the choice between the two, and didn’t want to sacrifice her friendships for a silly dream. Even if that silly dream was all she could have asked for in life.
“Oh, Rainbow,” Rarity’s sigh was equal parts dramatic and drained. “I simply don’t know what to do. I don’t think I can bear to refuse Fancy Pants yet again.” His hoof was still on the knob; holding the door open to her dreams. One more refusal could close it forever.
"I wish I could just pack you all up and take you to Canterlot with me-! But Ponyville is our home. Applejack has the farm, Pinkie Pie has so many friends here; and Sugarcube Corner! Twilight is… well, she’s Twilight after all. Fluttershy has all her little friends to tend and… and you have the sky."
She looked up to the expanse of blue, her hoof waving through the air slowly. Nothing beat the view and she could only imagine the way Rainbow Dash felt when she was soaring through the sky on a day like today. If it was anywhere near the way she looked, it had to be amazing. And so very, very alive.
Rarity was still the most dramatic pony Rainbow Dash had ever known, but over time she had grown used to it. It was part of what made Rarity the unicorn they all knew and loved, after all. Despite the almost theatrical display, it was still a serious issue to her friend, and because of that she took it seriously.
"I don't think I can bear to refuse Fancy Pants yet again."
Oh, certainly not. This was her dream on the line here, and if anypony knew the importance of a dream it was Rainbow Dash. She wasn't about to let Rarity shake her head in the face of somepony who was offering her the chance of a lifetime. It was her one shot to get the money she needed to start her boutique in Canterlot. Practically the most fanciest place in all of Equestria; fashion played a large roll, and with Rarity's flare she was sure it would be complete.
Well, only if she accepted of course. "The sky?" Repeating those two words, maroon eyes looked up to the wide open air as if it was a cued mark. There were few clouds, upon Mayor Mare's request of a generally clear, sunny sky today. There was some type of festival going on in the town square, and Rainbow had made sure to tend to the sky before coming down here.
"Oh.. right." She whispered, lost in thought. She couldn't let Rarity let this chance slip away... but what could she do about it? It wasn't her decision, after all. Convince her? Tell her the list of pros in comparison to the cons?
"You know, you could always send us letters," She said, "and we could come visit you, too!"
When Rainbow Dash pulled her wing away, Scootaloo sprang to her hooves, watching as the older pony started off in a running start. Part of her wanted to not even bother with humoring the race; she didn’t feel the energy to run very far after all, and what was the point? Rainbow Dash would win anyway. Still, it felt rude to both her ‘older sister’ and her mentor to not take her up on it, and so after a moment’s hesitation she took off after her, snorting as she trotted after her with a, “You’re on.”
She didn’t put that much effort in, but she did at least try to keep up. Why Rainbow Dash chose Sugarcube Corner Scootaloo didn’t know, but she didn’t care at the moment. She just wanted to do something to distract herself, and in some way running helped — probably not as much as riding on her scooter would, but it helped to alleviate something in her mind, give her something else to focus on.
Of course, by the time they arrived (with Rainbow Dash winning, of course) and Scootaloo flopped on the ground to take a breather, it came rushing back, and it was punctuated in her lack of enthusiasm when she responded, “Hhah… You won again…”
Rainbow Dash did her best to keep the race fair... Generally. Admittedly, at times she let Scootaloo pass her. She knew the small pegasus she took under her wing wasn't dumb though, so eventually she picked up the pace and kept herself in front, not wanting her to think she was being too soft or easy just to make her happy. But, that's exactly what she had been trying to do. Rainbow wasn't the absolute best at this mentor thing yet, but she certainly didn't like seeing her pupil so down.
Sugarcube Corner happened to be the place Pinkie Pie hung out at, and she was the happiest pony she knew. Maybe her antics could make Scootaloo at least giggle. A snack or something wouldn't hurt, either.
"Ya kept up though, kid." Turning around, she sat on the ground in front of her and put one hoof out for a bump, smirking. "Nice work."
An offer that Scootaloo would normally leap at. Well, don’t be mistaken in thinking she didn’t want to at the moment — of course she did. She loved spending time with Rainbow Dash, and a bad mood wasn’t going to change that. But instead of leaping straight up to her hooves, she tilted her head a bit to acknowledge she’d heard her, but didn’t look at her.
"Yeah, sure. I mean, if ya want. Where are we gonna go?"
Something was definitely wrong.
Rainbow felt a tad bit awkward all of the sudden. It was rare Scootaloo got.. upset in front of her. In fact, she wasn't sure she had ever seen it. As much as the younger pegasus would deny it, her lack of enthusiasm had been a clue to the puzzle right from the start. Her response only put the icing on the cake, and her older sister figure was trying to wrap her head around it.
"Hey," She pulled her wing away, "last one to Sugarcube Corner is a parasiprite!" Rainbow Dash then ran ahead, but she was going nowhere as fast as she could. Allowing Scoots to catch up first.
Whoops, that gesture hit Scootaloo harder than it normally did. Most of the time she just enthusiastically leaned into it (after all, this was her hero, and that was the one thing she was always genuine about: her admiration for Rainbow Dash), but for once she hesitated before she scrunched up her shoulders and moved in closer, shutting her eyes tightly.
"Okay," she said simply, as if her reaction was based on what they were talking about. Obviously, it wasn’t.
Scootaloo was acting weird. And it made Rainbow Dash feel weird. ... And concerned. Frowning, she allowed the younger of the two to move closer, but her posture was different than her usual one of enthusiasm. It was.. rigid, almost.
Silence for a second.
... "You wanna go hang out or something?"
Crippling fear of disappointing Rainbow Dash rearing its ugly head. What great timing.
Scootaloo ignored the question and feigned the energy to pay attention to the older mare’s answer to her own: “How much work did she needta have done? Is everythin’ goin’ okay for Sweet Apple Acres?”
She hadn’t spoken to Applebloom in a while, actually.
That wasn't an answer to her question, but she'd let it slide for the moment.
"Yeah, everything's cool. Don't worry about it, kid." Stepping forward, she put one wing over Scootaloo. She felt bad for not checking in, but at least she could make up for that now.

"Hey, Scoots! Ya okay?"
"Huh? Oh, yeah! Yeah, sure.
"… I haven’t seen ya all day, Rainbow Dash."

cloudclearingduty entered the garden,
"Celestia?" Discord’s smiling face turned to a frown and he rolled his eyes. “You think she believes me?" Although he’d been ‘reformed’ so to speak, Discord didn’t have to know that Celestia would most likely be on guard about his behaviour. He knew Celestia. She may be accepting now, but she knew better. She’ll turn him to stone again soon enough. He could always leave Canterlot but that wouldn’t be fun. Ponyville was a thrill to wreak playful havoc on because of how irritated the Mane 6 would get, but to simply leave would arouse suspicion. And honestly, Discord was at a loss of what to do. He’d play pranks on ponies here and there but that eventually got repetitive and he ended up sitting around in the garden doing absolutely nothing. He’d sleep on his hammock, and try to entertain himself, but a day without chaos isn’t really a day at all for Discord. Fluttershy would surely get angry if he tried to do anything too extreme, and he didn’t want that. She was the only real friend he had. Maybe Celestia, and Luna… a few others but that was a long time ago. They weren’t friends anymore. “If you knew Celestia like I do, then you would know that she’s not the princess she seems to be. But of course I don’t expect you to know these things."
It hadn't been too long since the incident and Discord's 'reform', but it was something she had been weary about since day one. Rainbow actually remembered having a conversation about the draconequus once with Twilight in the library. The purple-maned mare was suspicious herself, but she also seemed a little more accepting than Rainbow did. She just assumed it was her trusting Fluttershy's judgement.
And if there was anypony's voice she appreciated, it was indeed Fluttershy's. This was the very same pony who had tamed tons of little creatures, and even gone face-to-face with a Dragon. Despite her stuttering and the way she'd nervously scuff her hoof against the ground when speaking, Fluttershy had guts. Rainbow Dash admired that, and she also found more admiration in the way she trusted others. Something the brash pegasus had never been too good at, sometimes. But even if she did trust Fluttershy, she still couldn't help her attitude and the way she come across. Oops.
But perhaps she owed this guy a chance. Cut him some slack, Rainbow, he isn't out to make Ponyville look like it was turned upside down and thrown into an alternate universe anymore. Or at least.. she hoped not. This brought back the memory of how she had thought that a single cloud was Cloudsdale-- talk about embarrassing.
"Not tha' princess she seems to be? What's that supposed to mean?" She asked, not exactly fond of his word choice.
