Welcome to 2016!

The end of the holidays can elicit a lot of emotions: relief, gratitude, reflection, and even a little sadness as we wave good bye to another fun holiday season. Twinkle lights and inflatable snowmen make their way back into attics and garages and that glimmer of holiday excitement seems to fade back into the mundane day-to-day. BUT FEAR NOT! New Orleans invents new reasons to celebrate every year so here are some things to look forward to in early 2016!

1. The Allstate Sugarbowl – January 1 st A showdown between our searsucker suited neighbors, Ole Miss and the Cowboys of OK State. Come rain, hail, or swamp-like humidity, college kids and team supporters will flood the city with red, blue, orange & black and the party is sure to start early and continue well into the weekend.

2. The King Cake Festival – January 31 st Part Fitness challenge, part sugar coma. You may believe these are contradicting ideas; but this festival, in its second year benefitting the children of Ochsner Hospital, has found a way to combine the 2 in a wondrous day of fun. The day begins with a fun run and fitness challenge and quickly transitions into a King Cake and pastry eating festival with drinks and live music. Only in NOLA, baby.

3. The beginning of Mardi Gras – Krewes begin rolling January 6 th and the madness doesn’t stop until Fat Tuesday, February 9 th ! Whether it be on foot, by streetcar, or an extravagant rolling Kern creation, there will be something strange/amazing/awesome to see daily in all corners of the city all month long.

So take down your Red and Green and throw up some Purple, Green, and Gold because 2016 has just started and it already looks like it’s going to be a great year!
