âYou sound very lucky. Have you told your brother you love him recently? Itâs important to be upfront with your feelings when it comes to family.â
âYeah, of course I have! I tell him every day, duh! And like when we talk on the phone and stuff like that! Isnât that just normal?â
At least it was when it came to her brother. The rest of her family was a different story.
new territory.

Phi has never really been one for shopping. Well, excluding books, at least. She had thought that exploring the shopping district would give her a better idea of the kind of city this place isâ but she soon finds herself regretting that thought. Not only is there not enough information to provide her with the knowledge she so desires, but shopping just isnât something Phiâs well-versed in. Especially so in the fashion department.Â
Sheâs almost surprised this place has such a thing. But, indeed, Phi finds herself standing among racks of clothes, an eyebrow raised as she browses the different articles. However, the girl soon finds herself rather⊠bored. Onto the next store, she figures.Â
Except, just as sheâs leaving, a familiar pink-haired acquaintance slips into view. Sheâs here, too?
  âClover?â
Since arriving in Hive City, Clover had spent a lot of time in clothing stores. A lot. First there was getting jackets, then new heels when she broke her old ones, and then of course, just basic things. And really, if she could shop, why shouldnât she?Â
She was comparing two blouses when her very important decision making was interrupted. Was that...? She turned, looking like a deer in headlights. A really cute deer, of course, but a deer all the same.
âPhi...â
This really was a conglomeration of espers, wasnât it? She and Phi had never had any problems with each other, but they also had never been super close or anything. Phi was like Sigma, but it wasnât really clear to her if she had chosen to be in this mess like he did.Â
In a moment she switched, a bright grin taking the place of her deerly departed surprise.Â
âPhi! Itâs a good thing youâre here! Which one do you think I look better in? Pink or green?â
âCome on, of course I do. If I didnât, we wouldnât be here, in one way or another. AndâŠâ
Well it certainly sounds⊠off, but not impossible? Maybe his sense of reality finally snapped too hard that heâd buy to these things easily. He was 68 years old, though? Man, she probably had to deal with his wrinkly self. Gross.
âI believe you. Though.. I hope Iâm a cool grandpa by the time Iâm 68. Did something terrible happen, or are you just secretly a vampire and thatâs why you still look so young.â
Okay, maybe that was a bit of a rude remark, but he couldnât really help himself there.
It was strange how happy that made her. Just hearing him say that, just... him believing in her. Sometimes the amount of trust he had in her amazed her. She almost felt inadequate in comparison. Clover grinned, her nose crinkling up as she did.
âThank you, Junpei.â
Were thanks necessary? She wasnât sure, but it felt right for some reason.Â
âI guess if you think bolo ties are cool.â
Even now she found herself joking with him maybe in part because he allowed that sort of atmosphere to still exist, despite everything. Still, there were things they needed to talk about, now that she was telling him everything. Or at least a few things.Â
â As for me... Iâm 19, but I was cryogenically frozen for 45 years. To... participate in the third Nonary Game. With you.âÂ
leprechaun
âYeah, yeah, order whatever you want, I got this,â - he droned as he slipped onto his seat -Â âJust donât wring me dry. A manâs gotta pay his electricity bills and shit. Pun not intended.â Har har har.
Aoi grabbed at the menu and stared at it. Haha, right, what the fuck was he supposed to do with yakiniku? Akane and himself rarely splurged on anything and even when they did, this hadnât been on their bucket list. âYou gonna walk me through this, or should I ask our waitress?â
âNo no no, we donât need her! Iâm like an expert at this! Plus, they always try and fool you into buy the special courses by saying theyâre a good deal when itâs actually more expensive! Iâve got this, okay?â
She flipped over her menu and laid it out in front of him, pointing as she explained.
âWeâre gonna order this and share. Itâs for two people and it comes all ready and set so itâs easy ordering, yeah? You just let me do all the talking and cooking! Do you think you can do that?â
She had been lucky, then. And Kyle had been unlucky. That was the nature of his fatherâs gameâto create those possibilities. Where Clover was allowed to see the beauty of a bright future, Kyle felt himself growing nauseous. This was what he had spent his time to create? Akaneâs death, Cloverâs death, everyoneâs? And⊠and whatever must have happened to him inside of that pod. The garden. Soporil.
âI suppose I must have been,â he said. âWhen I awoke, I had lost my memory⊠a common side effect of mild Soporil overdose.â Which was their intention, of course. The doctor and Akane could hardly have run the game if Kyle knew what he was participating in. âI donât know about a pod in the garden, however. Are you saying I didnât participate in the AB game at all?â
His head hurt. If Akane was in the suit, and Kyle was in the pod, thenâŠ
âOh, in that case⊠feel free to refer to me as K instead. I assure you I donât mind. If there arenât a lot of others, doesnât that simply make me easier to find, if need be? I donât mind sticking out.â
She had a point about the âmoon stuffââthe gravityâbut something else caught his attention. Behind the mask, he frowned. (He wasnât entirely ignorant, but this conversation was confusing and difficult enough without bringing another layer into it.)
He said, âWhen did you get the chance to see my face?â
âOf course you didnât. You were sorta asleep for the whole thing... Wouldâve been hard to play, ya know. Heh.â
She laughed weakly, but it was getting harder and harder to believe this was all a mistake, all amnesia. Eventually sheâd have to come accept that this was some sort of reality, but she found herself avoiding that all the while. At least it wasnât her reality, she repeated to herself. She knew that, she remembered correctly. She had to. If she had died, she definitely would have known. Thatâs just a thing a personâs aware of, right? It wasnât like she could have amnesia or anything. After all she remembered everything pretty clearly.
âSorry, but thatâs kinda weird too. I mean like thatâs the name Akane went by.â
How did Kyle even know about that? Why would he consider himself K? He acted as if the name was something Clover would be more comfortable with and it was familiar, but. K was the name of the person she spent a good portion of the AB Game with. Kyle was not that person.Â
âThe first time we met, or well, the first time I met you. When we opened the pod, you werenât in the armor. And then afterwards, when you came and talked to me and Alice. You werenât in the armor then either. Do you not remember any of that? Iâm pretty sure you talked to the others too like Junpei and Quark, obviously Luna was taking care of you. And we all saw you in the pod too, but I mean Iâm repeating myself. Wait, I guess itâs not all of us if you count Dio. But uh, I donât think anyone cares about him.â
âIâŠâ She didnât seem to understand what went into a portrait, but he wasnât sure how to explain that any more than he already had.  That, and sheâd effectively stunned him badly enough that he didnât actually have it in him to protest. âS, sure.â He took a few steps back and held the camera up to his eye.
âJust⊠act like yourself.â As long as he took these snapshots at a little distance, she should look fine.  She did fit right into the urban sitting, while still standing out from it.
Clover nodded energetically then paused for a moment, trying to think of what that meant. It wasnât really a philosophical question, but it could be if you took it that way. She wasnât gonna, though. She was a selfie expert, so she pretty much knew which poses and expressions sheâd look cutest doing.Â
She began to pose as such, waiting a few moments before switching to a another perfectly practiced pose. She did peace signs, folded her arms, lots of things. And every time she looked positively adorable. She just knew she did.
âIs this good?â she asked while changing poses yet again.
âHehe, I could probably be a model, donât you think?â
