Pray for the Black trans man I started following on Instagram who dared bring up misandry as a force of oppression against trans men and has now spent the last few days fighting for his life against white cis people in the comment section patronising the shit out of him with “misandry isn’t real hope this helps 💕💞💕💞” as if a Black trans man doesn’t know what the fuck he’s talking about.
(@/intelly.geek is his username if you wanna show him some love btw, and for that matter another trans man on Instagram named @/thrandyv is going through the exact same thing right now so go follow some trans men who are putting in the work to say the shit that most trans creators on Instagram and TikTok aren’t willing to talk about).
So for context what happened was yay bunnies reblogged a typical tumblr absurdity post that said like “I’m glad the gods granted you sentience but I’m not sure I wanted such a complicated relationship with my sex doll” and tagged it “transmen”. When someone responded to the effect of what the fuck, bunnies replied “what’s not clicking”. The original post was a joke but that kind of tag from someone hateful towards trans men who frequently denies sexual violence against them is incredibly disturbing
People who hate us are perfectly capable of viewing us as sex objects. Objectification is kind of impossible without hate for the object
[tme voice] the trans woman is actually literally pinning us down and raping us with his disgusting male cock when he posts about being sexually abused
💬 9 🔁 1431 ❤️ 2534 · listen um. i think its great that the gods imbued you with life as a testament to the fervent passion and peerless sk
funny how it always works out like this huh? "you can't possibly be talking about the sexual abuse marginalized men inflicted on you as an equally marginalized woman, clearly you're bragging that you want to rape maginalized men" was a neutral action, gossiping "we thought she bragged about being a rapist because she's a man-hating meanie" was a neutral action, and when she calls out your misogyny she's invading your boundaries.
and you explicitly admit the post in the context that youre using it is alluding to rape
ergo that wasnt a bad read instead the read you protest really is that people assumed you were addressing it to trans men bc the tag was "transmen" trans men are a group no one in the existence of anything were mistreated and abused by all trans men ever whereas you can very easily say you believe an entire group of people to be a kind of thing
and this is not at all a behavior of all trans men ever even if the post is not "trans men are sex dolls" the context would then very clearly be that "trans men treat trans women like sex dolls" which is still untrue and transandrophobic because its a wild generalization based on gender and if your post is intended to be transandrophobic it is wild to get mad at people for thinking you are doing so in a different way than you were not least of which to mention that the tag is "transmen" and not trans men which would be an obvious typo perhaps in any other context but is highly suspect in this one and this post is incredibly vague about who its directed to or about
whats not clicking
girl none of it you get mad at people for being unsure how to interpret a vaguepost when the point of a vaguepost is to be vague
why do you think people were asking what you meant
this imo fully has nothing to do with race or gender a white cis woman could post the same thing and tag it #men and people would still assume the person reblogging a post written in first person was implying that the were putting themselves in the first person perspective and placing those words in a context in direct relation to the tagged entire group of people
are people far more eager to view black trans women as predators???
absolutely
is this a misinterpretation that could happen to no other class of people
not remotely
a lot of folks out here seem to be intentionally building in plausible deniability eager for people to misinterpret them and to be charitable id like to believe its simply because its the piss on the poor website and people love to interpret trans womens words in bad faith but the end result when youre intentionally vague and purposefully ready to defend a vague sentiment as if it was clear and distinct and any other interpretation is nothing but malice is that you look like a rage baiting troll
“systemically there is no real patriarchal oppression trans men face that trans women do not.”
we need gynecological care. we experience higher rates of medical discrimination that effect access to gynecological care. our ability to get abortions is effected by this, as is it effected by abortion being made illegal. some medical providers deny birth control to trans people on testosterone hrt. forced pregnancy is commonly used to detransition us.
neither trans nor cis women face this in the way that we do.
“systemically there is no real patriarchal oppression trans men face that trans women do not.”
period stigma. the financial burden of menstrual products. female class genital mutilation. female class infanticide. stunted development encouragement as children due to sexist bias. in some countries we cannot leave without the permission of a cis man due to being classed as female.
this is real, systemic, patriarchal oppression, that those shoved into the class of 'female' at birth face, and trans women do not.
“the treatment of transfeminized people by society is inherently different. inherently worse. not just socially or interpersonally but systemically.”
socially: trans men have higher rates of sexual violence, one in two trans men have been sexually assaulted. we also have higher rates of domestic violence, and intimate partner violence. we have higher suicide attempt rates. as well as being more likely to be in severe psychological distress and depressed. while less likely to be generally happy and thriving. we are more likely to be harassed or discriminated against in restaurants, hotels, retail stores, and bathrooms. and have higher avoidance rates of public bathrooms.
systemically: we are less represented in political office. we are more likely to have negative experiences with law enforcement. we overall are found to make less money. we are more likely to be harassed when we present incongruent identity documents. testosterone is a controlled schedule III substance that can result in criminal charges without a prescription. it is more common for us to be denied insurance coverage of hrt. due to our higher rates of medical discrimination we are also much more likely to avoid receiving necessary medical treatment due to fear of harassment and discrimination. we have higher rates of being in poor health. and avoiding healthcare due to cost. and are also more likely to be harassed or discriminated against by government agencies. as well as have negative experiences with airport security.
we also have comparable violent victimization rates with trans women. and trans boys are just as likely to be homeless.
none of this is to say that trans women are oppressing us, or that transmisogyny is not a very real social and systemic force that can be wielded against them. but it is to say that we have something like that going on too. there are things that we face, and ways in which we can be hurt, that are unique to us, and they need to be addressed. the way towards our joint liberation will never be found through erasing trans male and masculine oppression. there should be room for all of us to get our needs met and be heard in our entirety.
The fact that you think it's okay to "headcanon" a neutral nonbinary character as transmasc/transfem and use incorrect pronouns for them is the whole problem.
By "headcanoning" Loop, or any other character who exclusively uses they/them, as anything else, you are erasing nonbinary identities.
PLEASE consider the implications of the fan content you make. If a character exclusively uses they/them, why do you want to make an AU that changes their pronouns in the first place?
Genuinely, ask yourself why you want to do that? What makes it compelling to you in the first place? Why can't they just be neutral nonbinary?
Would you feel okay if someone "headcanoned" a binary trans woman character as using he/him? A binary trans man as using she/her? What about shipping a canon lesbian with a man, or a canon gay man with a woman? If any of those make you uncomfortable, and this doesn't, PLEASE ask yourself why that is.
for anyone who wants to claim that jim's story was unrealistic, that nonbinary people didn't exist in the 1700s, i'd love to introduce them to one of my favourite queer icons:
the public universal friend
so the puf was born in 1752 in cumberland, rhode island. their parents were quakers, and they grew up surrounded by religon. they were quite smart, athletic, good with horses, and could quote the scripture from memory.
in 1776, at the age of 24, they fell ill and became bedridden. they nearly died but made a miraculous recovery, and insisted that their soul was taken to heaven where god sent down a new spirit, tasked with preaching his word. this spirit was named the "publick universal friend" and was entierly genderless, rejecting the women's clothes worn by their body before and refusing to respond to their old name or any gendered pronouns. they dressed androgynously or leaned to masculine styles.
many people found this strange, but for the most part, the friend was respected in terms of their prefrence. when asked if they were male or female, they would simply respond "i am that i am". in text, people would either avoid using pronouns at all with the friend or simply use "he".
they began to travel just as they had been assigned, preaching the word of god and gathering followers as they did. they did not bring a bible with them, but preached from memory, just as they did as a child. they grew a group of followers known as the "universal friends" as they traveled, which makes them the first american to found a religous community.
they beleived that anyone with free will, regardless of gender, could gain access to god's light, and they preached celibacy, though in the end they expressed the right of their followers to choose whether or not to marry or obstain from sex. they valued peace and humility to everyone, and in this they condemned slavery, urging those who followed them to free their slaves. many followers were also black.
they said that women should "obey god rather than men", and there were four dozen women amongst the universal friends known as the faithful sisterhood who remained unmarried and took on leadership roles usually reserved for men.
in 1785, the friend met sarah richards and her husband. her husband died shortly after and sarah began to live with the friend, dressing in a similar androgynous fasion and dubbing herself "sarah friend". sarah friend continued to live with the puf for the rest of her life, eventually dying and leaving her daughter in the friend's care.
at 2:25 on july 1st, 1819, at the age of 67, the friend died after a long period of illness. it's often debated on whether or not the friend would have identified as nonbinary or even trans in any fasion, but their legacy remained one of peace, tollerance, oportunity, and equality regardless of sex or race.
our flag means death takes place in 1717, and though it's before the birth of the puf, there's no doubt that gender non-conformity (or gender fuckery, if you will) has existed in some fasion for a very, very long time. i don't find the way people treat jim unrealistic for the time period at all. people love to nit-pick when it comes to history that they know nothing about.
this is only a fraction of the friend's story, so if you're interested i highly reccomend looking into it further. they were a very interesting person, and trans history is undertaught yet so, so important to know.

what if we were married for 77 years and then I divorced you after I found out you killed my daughter and then years later we met at the auction of our ex's recordings and gazed at each other longingly from afar?

seeing more people use enben makes me so happy. take me hand lets use enban to refer to a singular nonbinary person and enben to refer to multiple nonbinary people (in addition to not in replacement of person and people). lets take nonbinary-gendered language seriously and not just gender-neutral language. but also use more gender neutral language too
