OK SO THAT DANGANRONPA ANNOUCEMENT HUH...
OK so theory times? Thoughts time? IDK THIS IS SUCH A RAMBLE OK. But basically heres my thoughts. The way they advertsied the new storyline was a bit strange to me, and kinda gave me inclinations on how exactly they're gonna pull this off.
First of all, making a remake of Danganronpa 2 instead of 1 was like a "huh" momment in itself, however there is more reason to remake 2 than 1. Not only is it a fan favorite, it's the only Danganronpa game where alterations to the killing game wouldn't effect canon lore, as they all survive at the end. Furthermore, it's one of the few games where, imo, the surviving roster was more of an "oh ig" than the other two.
This in mind, inherently by remaking only Danganronpa 2, it does suggest that this game is heavily targeting veteran fans, especially with how the trailer phrases it as not exactly a remake of the story, rather an alternate story in general. The alternate story isn't trying to be the original, and with what I previously stated, is likely going to be written with veteran players in mind.
Now, onto the big twist that they're currently teasing us
SO IDK IF I'm GOING INSANE OR WHAT BUT LIKE THE BOAT IS IMPORTANT AS HELL. Ok what I'm thinking is this boat is the same boat that Hajime, but at that point Izuru, and Nagito arrived on. Why it's in the simulation? Well I have thoughts, for example what if route 2 is basically sorta retconning how they restored dr2 survivors from eggplant in the anime, but who knows. However, if we're going with this assumption, I think the twist for chapter 1 isn't gonna be a full on protag murder switch like danganronpa v3, however...
I do think Nagito and Hajime will switch roles, or rather, Nagito and Izuru. What if, in this simulation of the killing game, Hajime figures out his talent/identity as Izuru Kamukura early? What if Izuru appears in the game earlier?
Thematically speaking, I think this will help with the major problem I had wondering when they announced the new route, which was "How will this tie into the themes of past vs future?"
Having to relive Hajime's journey a 2nd time would be rather redundant wouldn't it? especially since this game doesn't advertise itself as remake, but rather the original + a new journey for veteran players. By making Nagito the protagonist, we get may get to see Nagito tackle his own past through his ideological divide that he may encounter with Izuru. Through being the protagonist, maybe we'll see him develop past his heavy self-esteem issues and his twisted relationship with luck, hope, talent and hopes peak academy. After all, who better to duke it out with but the epitome of talent itself, something Nagito places his entire hopes on.
By making Nagito the protagonist, this solves another issue I have with just simply killing him off, which is having nobody to replace him with. LIKE NGL NAGITO CARRIES DR2 OKAY, like i fear it'd be mad boring without him... like whos gonna do wacky shit as him in chapter 5 it'd be mad boring. However, if we simply introduce Izuru early, which would also allow us to see mastermind Izuru more, well we can still have wacky interesting talent bs but with Izuru instead.
Plus on my tier list, I placed both chiaki and izuru in chatper 5, why don't we recreate the anime shall we?
Uh to explain other few tidbits on my tier list here
I placed Ibuki in chapter 4 purely on a whim. I don't imagine her surviving, but I do see her, becase of how kindhearted she is, to sacrifice herself much like gundam for the team. However, where that leaves Gundam? Idk.
For Akane, I'm sure she won't be a survivor, but I just couldn't see where she would get killed off. Im inclined with Chapter 3 if we use the despair disease, but idk.
While I see a lot of protag Mahiru, personally I just cant see it. In my interpretations, Mahiru doesn't really have the self-esteem issues or ties with hopes peak academy like Nagito or Hajime do. Mahiru, despite her past with natsumi and stuff, is at least sure of herself as a person. Her personhood isn't tied to talent, hope, or something like that. Sure she has hesitations about herself, but not to the extremes like Hajime or Nagito. Plus, if they do make Hiyoko survive this round, I fear she must face the same fate.
Guys i don't want teruteru sexual harassment to last more than 1 chapter so I refuse to believe he'll live pass this.
