Ok I need some rent lowering gunshots bc I've started getting some very interesting opinions on my dash as of late.
I wholeheartedly believe that TMA/TME labels have their worth in the modern trans+ community. Transmisogyny is its own beast in comparison to the broader trans experience and transitioning to a male-aligned identity DOES give you male privilege regardless of whether you sometimes struggle to pass*. If this makes you uncomfortable, it would benefit all of us for you to ask yourself why.
Much the same as being committed to anti-racism requires an active effort to sit in one's own discomfort at our unfair privileges/deep seated unconscious biases/having to confront racist ideas when we see them and are able to act, being anti-(trans)misogynist requires this effort as well. It's vital that you ask yourself,
How do I benefit from a worldview of women as being less competent or rational?
In what ways is it easier to perform "masculinity" and get away with it than it is to perform "femininity"?
Why is my ego so hurt by acknowledging that my TMA sisters DO face statistically higher rates of violence across the board?
Are my identity and community under any real threat from the existence of TME/TMA labeling? What use do these labels serve? What contexts do I see these labels brought up?
That is all 🤷♀️
*I have my own opinions on passing/passing culture/what it means to "pass" as well but this is another conversation
