Conversational Korean

하이 하이 나는 카이입니다. Today I wanted to share some casual Korean I learned just by messaging in the language! I hope you can learn something as well, albeit these are fairly simple. I added some vocab under a few phrases so it may help some people who want to build up their vocab.

If something is wrong, please don’t hesitate to correct me, as I’m still learning as well

( this whole post is messy, I apologise )

반가워요- Nice to meet you

하이- Hi

바이/빠이- Bye

잘 잤어요?- did you sleep well?

잘자요- Sleep well

굿 나잇- Good night

굿 모닝/좋은 아침이에요- Good morning

좋은 꿈 꿔요!- Sweet dreams

뭐 할 가요- What are you going to do?

뭐하고 있어요?- What are you doing? 뭐- what 하다- to do 있어요- existing, having 하고 있어요- doing

뭐해요?- What’s up?

오늘 기분이 어때요?- What’s your mood today?/How are you feeling today? 오늘- today 기분- mood 어때요?- how is it?

요즘 어떻게 지내요?- How have you been doing recently?

지금- now

지금 학교에 있어요- I’m in school now 학교- school

학교에 가고 있어요- I’m going to school

오늘은 어땠어요?- How was today? 어땠어요 is 어때요 in the past tense, making it “how was it?”

유튜브 보고 있습니다- I’m watching YouTube

핸드폰하고 있어요- I’m on my phone

맞아요- Right, I agree

그래요?- Is that right?/Is that so?

답늦어서 미안해요- Sorry for the late reply.

계속 대화하길 원해요- I want to keep talking

졸려요?- Are you sleepy?

그렇구나- I suppose

오늘 뭐 하고 놀았어요?- What have you been doing today?

힘내요- cheer up, hang in there

부끄러워요- I’m embarrassed/ashamed

잘하네요- good job

숙제하고있어- I’m doing my homework

뭐할가요? isn’t correct though… it should be “뭐할거에요?”

뭐 - what

할거에요 - going to do

-ㄹ 거에요 grammar is the korean equivalent of “going to do” And this can be applied to not just 하다 but to all verbs

For example :

가다 -> 가다 + ㄹ 거에요? -> 갈 거에요?

Are you going to go?

And if you take off the question mark it becomes a statement.

갈 거에요 - I’m going to go…

할 거에요 - I’m going to do…

먹을 거에요 - I’m going to eat…

Side note : I CANNOT STRESS THE IMPORTANCE OF USING HONORIFICS

In this post there is so many different honorific levels used.

To new korean learners, you don’t need to use the highest form in casual conversation and please please please do not use the low form(반말) to people you do not know and especially not to people older than you. (Unless told do so by the older person or if you’re familiar with a person the same age as you.)

Please study up on when/where/how to use these politeness levels but to be safe always conjugate in a casual and formal way !!

I rushed when i made this, so i really apologise for any mistakes. I’m sure i repeated some stuff that is in my two other posts, but there is some new stuff!! (Sorry for the lowercase i, you know the apple problem lol)

좋은 아침이에요- Good morning

하이- Hi

답늦어서 미안해요- Sorry for the late reply

방금 일어 났어요- I just woke up

밥 먹었어요?- Did you eat? (뭐 먹어요? What are you eating?)

피곤해요?- Are you tired?

졸려요?- Are you tired?

자요.- Go to bed (go to sleep)

자고 싶어요- I want to sleep

굿 나잇- Good night

곧자야되서- I need to get to sleep soon

너무 피곤해요- I’m too tired

죽고 싶어요- I want to die

난 배고파요- I’m hungry

먹고 싶어요- I want to eat

학교숙제하고있어- I’m doing homework

난 추워요- I’m cold

난 추워 죽겠어요!- I’m freezing (to death)!

학교에 있어요?- Are you at school?

저누 집에서 쉬고있어요.- I’m resting at home.

학교에 가고 있어요- I’m heading to school

집에 가고 있어요- I’m heading home

난 심심해요- I’m bored
