JONATHAN BAILEY and EZRA MARTIN are mythical wizard figures (immortal in the stories but they've been gone for a while, either presumed to be Out There or else they finally killed each other--- whenever weird magic stuff happens in other places it's attributed to them (jokingly, mainly) by the magical crowd in the city) Jonathan bailey made the iron law (which shows how powerful he is) the stories about them are basically oral. there's like no texts on them and idk if their names are written down, just to be safe. there are probably physical remnants of them though some are Debatable jb and em are pretty much assumed to be real/have existed at one point (the older creatures remember them) it's just in question whether they're still alive also jonathan bailey tied his magic so much to the city it's unsure whether or not he could love elsewhere

the iron law= can't hurt humans without (implicit) consent which prevents mass murders and the like. allowed to respond in kind to any human that stumbles on Their Territory -define territory more -define implicit consent -does this extend to werewolves (and others) who live in the suburbs? -how long do you have to be in the city for you to be bound to iron law -what happens if you break it/attempt to break it -laws can be set up under iron law but they're strictly word-as-bond and not blanketly enforced over the whole city

OK SO thom was a construction worker until his supervisor noticed his talent for planning stuff & now he works with a group of other architects on designing ecofriendly/ green buildings. hes not the senior architect by a long shot but he still makes contributions. he loves to build and lately has been building birdhouses in his spare time. he tends to a rooftop garden and also pitches in w/ a nearby community garden, mostly showing people how to do things properly. he probably grew up on a farm.

OH MY GOD THEY ALL HAVE TO HAVE DAY JOBS NOW. FUCK. THEYRE RESPECTABLE CITIZENS. thom- probably works at some sort of eco company. environmental friendliness/activism? postcloak he doesn't job any longer or pay rent. his share of the rent is most consistently given precloak. bridget- programmer. in IT dept of some company probably harriet- in grad school for psychiatry(psychology?) OR graphic design stuff (Mfa?) works part time at a bar rabbit- haha jobs are for HUMANS. (he does some supernatural thing, it's whatever) jess- in grad school for business management but is in a BAND, probably does lead vocals too cause that's just the type of person he is. cami- video game design. probably has a low position at a tiny company

bridget probably turned cami into a vampire, it was just like her!

thom is well-built, stocky and good sized. he works out probably. he is pretty quiet. parties and loud social situations make him uncomfortable. he would rather be gardening. he is usually a little dirty with soil. he likes nature and solitude.

cami and jess have some bond of sorts. probs they are queerplatonic. jess is part demon (horns), i don't remember what cami is?? look that up!

Bridget is a sanguinist, a vampire who does blood magic. she only recently vamped. she's a mercenary probably but also kills people for fun. she wants monsters to enslave humanity.

harriet is a witch and she always wears this purple gem (amethyst?) at her throat and a scarf. she never takes the scarf off. she probably has a few apprentices. i don't know what type of witching she does maybe kitchen? but not solely. rabbit is long and lanky and a changeling and raised by a human mom and a djinn. he probably has real rabbit ears sometimes. very trickster

thom gets this cloak made out of feathers and at the end of the first book (Jesus) he finally properly accepts it. i don't think he does before it would be too short. (?) but always they change and he turns sharper, more angled, glittering. ends up with an eye patch and a cane and a nose like a beak, always wrapped up in his feathered cloak. he can turn into a black swan and a crow and probably some other things. he is king/roi of the underground maybe. his main place is an abandoned subway (who ruled before? or were they waiting for him?) he probably has bird messengers too. the birds can give him omens even in the beginning.
