That too on a day when i slacked through most of the day. This is not good. Not good at all :(
One of the challenges of medical training is that you sometimes have to learn from docs who you don’t actually consider to be good role models. Not most of the time, but occasionally. Yesterday I was working with a new preceptor who falls into that category. His general “fuck-you” attitude towards…
I can’t even tell you how much I worry about working with “paternalistic, condescending, tone deaf” attendings. futuredoctorweirdo, you did what you could, and that’s awesome.
I worked with doctors like this in medical school and in residency. I also learned, the hard way, what happens when a fourth year medical student challenges their jerk of a preceptor. They fail the rotation. (Pass-fail grading system).
So, I resolved that the best thing I could learn from jerks like that is how not to be a doctor, basically. And also to pay it forward by teaching other students and residents not to be jerks.
My worst experience was when the surgeon, who had initially given us lectures on ethics, gave us the worst example of violating patient privacy, not even asking for consent. Yep, thats what they teach you; thats the type of doctor you never want to be.

So I gave up after half time, closed my books and went to watch the match. Poor poor messi with the last free kick. Have to say though, for a world cup final, that was disappointing. Oh well, need to sit and study for the rest of the night now. Talk about payback for taking a long break.
