Imagine Grace defined his name as the elegance definition of grace and Rocky spends years thinking how fucking ironic this clumsy leaky space blobs name is.

Until Grace slips out a sentence along the lines of "could you give me a little grace here" and Rocky immediately points out he used a word wrong so Grace has to explain that yeah, grace means elegance but it can also mean mercy sometimes too.

And Rocky has to suddenly reconcile that the clumsy leaky blob that saved his life twice, that almost certainly doomed himself to come back for him, name is Mercy.

it's interesting to me that Markiplier's arguably most notable work before Iron Lung was Unus Annus

where the point was "dead is dead, all you have when someone dies is your memory, when this is gone it's Gone don't try to salvage it and keep it alive, just remember it"

and people inevitably Didn't Do That. They saved and shared records of their favourite moments, refused to let it disappear despite so many efforts otherwise. The full bulk of it may be Gone but the clips and records we kept will go on forever, always keeping a piece of it alive, creating new things from its scraps and still inspiring people who might never have known it

and then Iron Lung comes along and says "yeah, dead is dead, but maybe our lives as individuals are Bigger Than Us and what really matters isn't just ourselves but the impact we make -- we can still delve deep and find evidence of what once existed, and keep records of what happened for the people who come after us, and maybe that's more important than anything"
