A Star Is Born (2018) dir. Bradley Cooper
greta:
“I can understand that. I’ve been wanting to find out more about my life and my future, well past if we look at it from the time we’re in now. I tried asking my dad but he didn’t want to tell me, so I’m not sure if I should keep looking or stop before I find out something I didn’t want to know.” She’d rather save herself the heartache if it was something bad. It was easier to read things about other people than yourself. “It does seem that way. I certainly have less war ridden nightmares now.”
“Hm. I’m kind of glad that I know --- well, not glad, but I think it’s for the best,” she said, shrugging mildly. “I’d hate to not know, especially when others do ... it’d drive me mad, in all honesty. Besides, I think finding out is inevitable anyway. At least I got to do it on my own terms, right? I’d have hated it if someone else would have told me, out of the blue.” Amelia pushed her lips together, her chest feeling heavy. “That’s good to hear.”
lily:
“Y’know what —” Lily leaned back in her seat, catching the eyeline of the barista and offering him a courteous smile before shouting — “Could I please get a double espresso?” Setting her chair legs all safely back on the ground, Lily relaxed against the table. “Don’t we all need one? If I see one more person trying to pity me for being ‘poor Harry Potter’s mother’, I think I might scream.” My child’s not even here. She kept that part to herself.
Lily Potter might not like it, but Amelia did pity her, like she pitied so many others ( herself, too, at times ). She hid these feelings skillfully, though --- the redhead in front of her had no use of her melancholy. “I often need something stronger, I won’t lie.” Amelia wished there was whiskey in her coffee cup, after all. “I don’t blame you at all. I’ve wanted to scream plenty too, this past month. It’s one thing to learn about your fate, and another to constantly have people remind you of it, isn’t it? I’ve found it more than frustrating --- I can’t begin to imagine how it’s been for you.”
remus:
“Merlin knows I NEED it too, though it sounds positively dangerous,” he quipped with a twinkle in his eye. Though, with what they’d been through in their time coupled with the timeclash – he’d had enough dangerous excitement for a lifetime. “Should I make one myself or just observe the effects it has on you? For science, of course.”
“There are much more dangerous things than excessive caffeine use, Remus,” she pointed out, with a twinkle in her own eyes. Both her and his futures proved that, she thought --- Amelia could not help but feel bad for Remus, knowing his fate. “You should get one yourself, because it’s an experience you have to go through. And I’d go mad, if you’d start observing me.”
fleur:
doe eyes peer at the woman curiously, eyebrows lifted ever so slightly as her gaze travels to the mug. “how can you function after that ? i get the shakes after one cup of regular coffee.” over the years she’s tried to become a coffee person, but tea has always been her drink of choice. delicate fingers wrap themselves around her own mug as she toys with the string on the tea bag, lips pressed together. “tough day ? ”
“Years and years of excessive caffeine use, I’m afraid,” she said, though she didn’t seem very rueful about it. “I’m scared that one day I’ll just be immune to it, and no amount of coffee will do the trick.” Amelia considered the other’s question for a moment. “Tough month, more like it --- but I’m hardly the only one feeling that way, I’m sure.” She sipped her coffee. “Fleur, right? I have seen you at a meeting, I think,” she said, keeping the word Order from her mouth.
alasdair:
“That is an excellent point,” he agreed, nodding his head as he thought about the logistics of that. He hadn’t considered the coffee to cream ratio remaining the same, perhaps that wasn’t such a bad idea, maybe next time. Probably not though. “I’ve become organized and responsible in the last twenty-one years, it’s freaky. Thank god, I don’t work for the Ministry though.” He responded without thought, “Cardiff,” a pause and then, “2001 though, time-wise.”
“Quite freaky, indeed,” said Amelia. Should she return the favour, and tell this stranger what she learned of her future? She wasn’t sure. “Strange, to hear what becomes of you in the future, isn’t it? My career bloomed, apparently, which was nice to hear.” The rest, she left up in the air --- Amelia didn’t feel like discussing her own apparent murder. ( Especially as this person was from a time where she was dead already, and might’ve read the news of her death in the newspaper --- freaky, indeed. ) “I’m from 1980. Near London.”
greta:
“It seems like an endless stream of information.” It was important to figure out what’s important but for that they needed to know as much as possible to determine the important and the unimportant bits. “It is crazy to think about just how much has changed in a short period of time.” Greta felt like she was playing catch up trying to learn everything she could.
“It does, yes. To be fair, I have been looking for information a lot, myself. I hate not being in the know and ... well, there’s a lot of things I don’t know, now.” It was frustrating, for a natural control freak like Amelia, to be stuck in such an unknown world. “It is. It does bring me hope, though --- things seem to have improved a lot in 2029.”
isolde:
Humming in response, Isolde nodded and squinted as she looked at the menu over the counter. “Sounds useful, but not that healthy,” she said as she turned around to look at Amelia with a smile. “Are you okay? I mean, I know this is all messed up, but… That much caffeine kind of scares me. Not that I’m judging; I’m actually tempted to get the same thing right now.”
“Ah, well. I already know I won’t die of a caffeine overdose, so what’s the damage?,” said Amelia dryly, before smirking slightly. “I’m fine, though. Just quite busy at work, is all, besides all this general madness. I do recommend an espresso squared --- it works miracles. I would even go as far as saying that it works better than a Wideye Potion. You should put it on the menu, at the pub. But please do credit me!”
alasdair:
“Two double expressos? That sounds like it would be bitter enough to singe your taste buds off,” he responds, nose wrinkling slightly in disgust as he looks down at his own drink. Alasdair preferred drinks that were almost sickly sweet himself, having long traded flavour for the effects of caffeine. “The world is pretty weird right now, isn’t it? Everything is all flipped — and i don’t know how to feel about it.”
“I mean, the bitterness doesn’t increase with the amount of coffee. It’s still just as bitter as one espresso, it’s just ... a lot more espresso,” Amelia pointed out, shrugging slightly. She’d been judged on her coffee preferences plenty in her life --- she hardly minded any more. At the stranger’s confession, she frowned in confusion, not sure what to do with his unknown feelings. “It is, yeah. I’ve been way too busy to really think about my feelings on it, if I’m honest. The Ministry’s ... a mess, but don’t quote me on that.” She paused, sipped her coffee. “Where’re you from?”
greta:
Greta was glad that Amelia understood her. They came from the same time after all. “At least I’m not alone in this. Don’t get me wrong, I do think it’s a good thing. it’s just a lot of information to take in when you’ve never heard about it before. I grew up in the muggle world and all of this is still very new to me.”
“Right? There’s already so much new information to take in --” Mostly death, apparently, and a whole lot of war. Amelia was trying not to focus on the negative, but it was proving to be hard. “-- and then there’s these technological advances to worry about as well! It’s hard to believe that so much has been developed in just forty years.”
“I call it an espresso squared — it’s two double espressos, in one mug. Also known as an atomic caffeine bomb,” said Amelia, taking a big sip from her mug. She reserved cups of coffee of this strength for truly strenuous time. ( This past month, she’d almost exclusively drank espresso squareds --- could you blame her? ) “Merlin knows I need it.”
greta:
Greta was still trying to wrap her head around the fact that she was in the future now. And with the future came a lot of changes, she just wasn’t sure which ones were good and which were bad yet. “All of this new technology is very overwhelming. I feel like there’s so much I don’t know.”
“I know!,” said Amelia, nodding her head. She’d been so occupied with reading through old Prophed editions, work and the Order, that she had not yet had time to catch up with all the technological developments. “Most of it seems very handy, but I have no idea how any of it works. They should give workshops, or something, to explain to us how these new phones work. And the internet, too --- I have no clue what that’s supposed to be.”
bellatrix:
@cmeliabones
maybe she misses the ministry. her work, her passion. she hasn’t had much time to think about it, not yet, but when she sees AMELIA BONES, something stirs within her. “ bones, “ she says, in acknowledgement. her words are surly, tainted by the anger that she carries under her skin like a loaded gun, these days. ready to go off. three, two, one. fire. but she restrains herself ( she hasn’t completely lost herself, not yet ), and settles on a dark stare instead. hatred is burning in her eyes, making her see red. her mask of indifference doesn’t slip. “you don’t look well, is the future not all that you would have hoped?” there’s a sting to her words, anger embedded within polite sentences. she has been at this charade for years, it’s like second nature to her ( and that’s the only reason why she’s still keeping it up —- old habits are hard to break ).
“Lestrange,” spoke Amelia in return, hard eyes meeting hard eyes. She had never liked Bellatrix much, had let her dislike grown into a soft, simmering hatred --- and now that she’d learned of the heinous crimes committed by the woman in front of her she hated her even more. ( Was it wrong, to judge her for the things she was yet to do? Maybe not, but Amelia doubted that Bellatrix Lestrange would choose to take a better path than the one she had once taken. Besides, she’d committed plenty of wrongs already, of that she was sure. ) “Hm, not quite. Though it’s a lot better than what the future has in store for you, don’t you agree?” Her tone was cool, challenging, distant --- she knew that Bellatrix wished to get under her skin, and she refused to let her. Her grief for the future ( alongside her grief of the past ) was buried deep below. “I was quite pleased to hear that you rotted away in Azkaban for a while, though.” Not entirely true, but only because Amelia thought Azkaban a hellish place that belonged to the past, but those were details. “Maybe we can make that happen again?”
rowan:
“It is not my fault, I swear,” Rowan insisted. Sure, he had transfigured a very annoying Death Eater supporter into a raccoon, but really, he could not be held accountable after the vulgar things that had been said about his mother. Of course, now he had a raccoon clawing at him. “It will wear off eventually. He will be fine. Unfortunately.”
“You are ... not insinuating that that’s a transfigured wix, I hope?,” asked Amelia, eyebrows shot high, an expression of disbelief. She didn’t recognise the person in front of her, but that wouldn’t stop her from passing her judgement. “I believe that’s still illegal in 2029 --- or actually, I know. I read up on the laws. I know the world’s a mess, but let’s not fall into anarchy, shall we?”
ludo:
Ludo let out a soft, amused sounding chuckle.“Most people would kill for the chance to have a quick game with a living legend.” He’d gotten a fair bit of attention since the incident or whatever the hell they were all calling it. Apparently, history remembered him as what he knew he was: the best beater of his age. Now that he was in the future, he was eager to prove that he was the best beater of any age.
“Afraid you’ll lose your relevance, Mr Bagman? With all these other legends around, and all . . .” Amelia cocked her head to the side, amused by Ludo’s cockiness. He was a good Quidditch player, so she supposed that his confidence was earned. It was still slightly grating, though. “I’m afraid I don’t have time for quick games though, but maybe next time? There are quite pressing issues at hand, after all --- my own legendary status being one of them.”
i used to be broken. i used to be shards of iron and ice, a whirlwind of broken glass, until I learned to be more.
