Some Awatukee youngsters got the opportunity of a lifetime to play baseball with the Arizona Diamondbacks as part of the Dbacks Give Back Jersey Program. So far, the program has given over twenty-two thousand uniforms for kids playing youth baseball and youth softball in about thirty-three leagues across the Valley. Cronkite News reporter Louie Vertone has the story.

The Coyotes Hockey team broke records this Olympics by sending five of their players to Sochi, Russia. Four of the five Olympians will be representing their respective countries for the first time since entering the NHL.

The former Desert Ridge High School and ASU baseball player, Jake Barrett, is back in his home state of Arizona for Cactus League spring training. According to his Diamondbacks teammate, Matt Stites, "He has that bulldog mentality... I'm not gonna get beat by not my best." Barrett was a power hitter at Desert Ridge High and was a pitcher in his ASU days, but the Diamondbacks believe he's best suited to be a closing pitcher in their rotation.

Congress is squabbling over immigration reform standards. The House GOP calls for tighter border security and a zero tolerance policy for those who cross the border illegally; however, Democrats say this approach will ultimately fail and simply tear apart families.

After the closure of the Mineral Museum at the Arizona State Capitol Mardy Zimmerman decided to take matters into her own hands- literally. She designed a program to teach school children about rocks and minerals. The program is free to schools; she and her husband initially funded the program, but they are now receiving grants from large corporations to keep it running.

Snowbowl Ski Area in Flagstaff is combating the fourth lowest year for snowfall since their opening 76 years ago. To keep the slopes open, they have been using man made snow. The artificial snow is workable, but far from perfect.

The House of Representatives announced the formation of a new committee that will help Arizona establish the state's first trade office in Mexico City. One local business owner, Jeff Barth, hopes his blade manufacturing business will benefit from the proposed trade office.

After her brother was murdered, competitive boxer Sulem Urbina thought she would never fight again. But recently, she stepped back into the ring and won The Mexican Amateur National Championship in his honor. She now has sights set on a bigger prize: The 2016 Olympic Games.
