Fixed BCM4313 on Ubuntu and Linux Mint..
Who would have known that all I had to do was open Terminal and type something. But before this, I did this: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx#STA_-_Internet_access
Then I went into Terminal and typed something I thought I already did before but apparently didn't..
sudo modprobe acer_wmi sudo modprobe -r acer_wmi
I'm not sure if the second part will work without doing the instructions in the link. But after I typed that stuff in the Terminal, my wifi was enabled right away on Ubuntu and Linux Mint, when before, I couldn't even enable the damn thing. It just never let me click "ON".
I'm still distrohopping but at least I know I have wifi working on a Linux distro.
Nothing to do with what I usually post but..
Tempted to post it.
If Ron Paul was a nerd, he'd use Linux.
Still distrohopping
I can't believe I'm still distrohopping. I tried Crunchbang, but I didn't really like it. Basically all distros are the same, especially if you do basic tasks the way I do.. I don't know why I'm having trouble making a choice. Arch Linux, Fedora, Sabayon, and Debian are my current choices.. I'll get a bigger list and eventually narrow it down.
I don't need something that's lightweight. My laptop can handle anything you throw at it. I don't really want to take the time to dualboot, because unlike my HP that I took back and my Toshiba (only 2GB Free Space left, basically leaving it as a harddrive), my wifi doesn't work out of the box on Archbang, Ubuntu, Fedora, or Linux Mint. For some reason, when I asked on /g/ about Fedora, people suggested Fedora 14.. I wonder why. I tried Fedora 16's Live CD. Works well. Broadcom BCM4313.. it gives me a little more experience in the Terminal as I use the instructions given to me by that thing called the internet but it's incredibly fucking annoying..
Got a new laptop
Yeah, hard drive was busted.. Just had to exchange it for a Lenovo
At least Gnome 3 ought to run well on this.
Why didn’t you just buy a new harddrive?
Well, I didn't want to wait for a new harddrive. Also my screen suddenly stopped working. I also used this as an excuse to get a bigger laptop, one that could run Gnome 3 without issues.
Unfortunately, my wifi doesn't work on Ubuntu, Crunchbang or Archbang out of the box, but Google lead me to solutions to getting Broadcom's BCM4313 to work.

this is touching…as I’m sure it was meant to be. regardless, i think it’s disrespectful that every single movement feels like its necessary, and appropriate, to equate their struggles with the history of Black descendants of African slave captives.
Is that an aborted baby? What in the hell. So now the pro-life idiots are trying to equate this to Black people and our past struggles (and CURRENT struggles). This is fucking low. This is lower than low. This isn’t even touching. This is disgusting. These two things are not the same. They will never be. Nothing will ever be the same as slavery. I fucking can’t anymore. Who would draw this? How dumb do you have to be?
Is this the new one? Was using the Jewish holocaust not enough for you to rally support for your baseless, emotionally fueled, and insensitive cause? Now you have to rope in the enslavement of a race people and equate it to the termination of a fetus? Oh Pro-Life, you never cease to find a new low. Let’s compare a clump of cells to an already autonomous, thinking, speaking, beings with their own identities, cultures, goals, etc. group of people. Yeah, that’ll help people make some far off unintelligent connection to our already flawed as fuck cause.
How utterly pathetic.
IS MY HARDDRIVE BUSTED?
Hello, I REALLY need help. If this sounds like something from the Microsoft community boards, I posted this there, but no one's responding so I'm also asking here.. I went to delete a 300GB Partition in Windows 7's partitioning tool. It was a ext4 filesystem I used for Ubuntu Linux. I decided I no longer needed that operating system. The program froze. Never got to see if it ever deleted that partition from my 500GB harddrive. I decided to restart. It got stuck on the restarting screen. So I turned off my computer and turned it back on by holding and pressing the power button. What happened after that.. Windows 7 will not boot. It gets stuck at the Windows logo. No login screen at all. So, I decided to try to boot from a Linux Mint Live CD, and I get an error saying "Panic occurred, switching back to text console". So then I tried Ubuntu Live CD. Same thing. So then I tried to install the Debian operating system so at least I'd have something. Gets stuck at a blue screen. So then I tried to use my Windows 7 install disc. It's stuck at the startup screen. So then in the boot loader, I clicked Startup Repair instead of going to start Windows 7 normally. Gets stuck at the startup screen. So then I tried a disc with gparted, a partitioning tool, to see if I can see what's wrong using that. I get an error saying "No default or UI configuration directive found!". So then I tried to boot into Windows 7 in Safe Mode with Command Prompt after pressing F8. It gets stuck at \windows\system32\DRIVERS\disk.sys. WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED? I need to use my laptop! I'm currently on my old laptop.. It's terrible. I'm worried. This is a new laptop. I don't want to take it anywhere, It seems I can't fix anything. I already did a Memory Check on BIOS. No problems it says. PS: I have no flash drives and as far as I know, you can't boot from SD cards.
I also posted this on 4chan and the words "hdd" and "fucked up" seem to keep coming.
PS: I tried DBAN and it doesn't work. I can't even fucking clear my entire harddrive?
Brasero Errors
What the fuck?
Brasero just made me waste a DVD.. gave me an error. Not the first time it happened
I've wasted 3 discs yesterday before transferring the ISO to Windows and burn it there.
Even used k3b yesterday and it did nothing. Did it on my old laptop as well.. What's a better program?
I can't keep wasting DVDs. I need a flash drive.
Linux Newbies
The newcomers of Linux are people that are already interested in computers. They are not your typical Windows user. Unless a big, major company decides to embrace Linux or System76 becomes big, Linux newbies are those curious about computers, and their ages may vary. I love what Ubuntu is doing, because it helps those that are new to Linux get a great first experience. Just a random opinion.
I HAVE ENABLED MY ASK BOX.
So fire away.
My literal definition of beautiful..
If you're ugly and your personality is terrible, you're not beautiful.
There's no deep meaning to it. This has nothing to do with society. I'd date a girl I thought was beautiful if everyone else said she wasn't.
Stop being such morons, you're not philosophers.
Who cares that I deleted Windows.. also about previous posts..
I''m actually enjoying rejoining Linux. Also..
Gparted is the easiest partitioning tool I've ever used. Why did I ever delete Windows? How could I have been so impatient that I didn't think?
Anyways, I'm installing Linux Mint alongside Ubuntu, and I will also install Debian. I've been curious about Gentoo & Slackware since my friend complained about it, but it seems too intimidating, so a recommendation for something in between was Debian, to get me more familiar with Linux.
Also, I should really proofread what I post on here. I sound like a 12 year old in some of my posts. But this is a sideblog where I could vent to talk about anything else. My primary blog is where I post useless pictures.
"What I Look for in Linux" got the comment that I want Windows 7. Sounds like it. I was suggesting that I want a Linux distro that can appeal to everyone. Ubuntu does the job, but I felt not as much. My opinions change daily, and I feel it does the job.
Also, you cannot get an average user to install a Linux distribution. The only people that would be willing to install a new operating system are those already interested in computers. Unless the average user knows someone that uses Linux and it can spread as much as Limewire and p2p did to the average user, then I don't know how that can be possible.
I also posted about Canonical needing to make better videos. I still believe that. They should also improve their website. It can help bring more people along. Gnome has made some pretty good videos for example about Gnome 3.
I say this as if I had people messaging me, but no one's messaged me. I only have like 3 followers. I just wanted to add on to some previous posts.
Dear CNN, Ron Paul did not write those newsletters.
Give me proof that he did.
It's fair game to ask the question once, which you did this election and last election.
To ask over 12 times is overzealous and rude.
The people pushing this old issue of newsletters written under Ron Paul's name are Conservatives that are afraid of Ron Paul.
They know that if he wins, they lose.
Ron Paul is not responsible for those newsletters or everything his supporters say.
WHAT SCARES ME IS THAT I SEE TWEETS FROM PEOPLE BELIEVING IT.
I see "dis ron paul guy is racist as hell"
That's the average American. Gullible and easily manipulated.
"i dont believe dis character ron paul smh"
They don't stop to look at facts. CNN knows that if they keep on doing this, they will push Ron Paul out of the election. The media has that power.
We have a deal!
