“fifty dug her claws into me,” she said with a shrug. “she started falling off my shoulder so she got scared.”

“that’s okay, a lot of people don’t pay attention to stuff i see. they can’t see most of it anyways,” she said, smacking at her own shoulder. “don’t put your claws in me, that hurts.”

kai had joined his sister for a trip to the park. mostly because he was going crazy in the house and needed some fresh air. he had taken one of his comic books with him as he knew she would get distracted easily so at least then he had something to do. being too caught up in the book, he barely heard what she had said. “what?”

“a squirrel pushed his little friend out of the tree,” she said through giggles.

“did i see what?” nate looked up from his sketchbook when someone said something, assuming it was to him as they were the only two people sitting close to one another.

“that squirrel just pushed the other one out of the tree,” she said with a small giggle.

Layla had just gone for a run in the park and was now sitting in a bench with her water to try to catch her breath. When she hears Jade speak, she looks down at her and then over at the squirrels before she laughs softly.·“That was funny. Although, I kind of hate squirrels. I’ve had a weird fear of them since I was a little girl.”

“i like all animals. even the mean ones, cause they don’t mean to be mean, it’s just their nature and they can’t help it,” she said before her attention turned to her right shoulder. “i didn’t say you were mean, but you don’t have to scratch me to wake me up yanno,” she said, seemingly to thin air.

on her rare days off, sam had always enjoyed going for a run through the park with her dog and following it up with a bit of book reading. she was currently doing the latter as she sat on a park bench with her german shepherd, titan, sat at her feet. “no? what was it?” sam asked only briefly looking up from the book she’d been reading to glance at the nearby girl.

“that squirrel just pushed the other one right out of that tree,” she said as her laughter died down, a more solemn expression on her face. “i hope it’s okay...”

i work from 12:30 to 10:15 so i won’t be able to be on while i’m at work tomorrow as i have no service in the store, but i’ll get to replies as soon as i get home tomorrow night!

“well yeah, the squirrels didn’t do anything to him. he shouldn’t be eating harmless creatures.”

to say he was lost would have been an understatement. del watched the girl with such sights that it seemed his eyes were glued to her. “fifty….” he repeated quietly. “sweetheart …. are you, uhm, okay?” he asked as he examined her.

“yeah...” she said, furrowing her brows at his question. “...why wouldn’t i be?”

“oh – “ his gaze followed her point to the tree. but when her sudden words – at least sudden to him – were spoken, delaware’s attention went back to her with a look of confusion. “uhm, who’s fifty?” he muttered out as he kept his gaze fixed on jade. “i agree that it’s not right to eat the squirrels, but i don’t think he’s going to do that…” he stated, concerned that anything he might say could trigger her. 

“fifty’s my cat,” she said. “fifty! right now! get over here!” a frustrated sigh left her lips as she looked at her shoulder and stroked something invisible. “you’re gonna get me in trouble with mr. babadook, you gotta stop trying to eat things that are our friends.” she looked at the other and pointed to her shoulder. “this is fifty.”
