After reading | Who is afraid of formalism- Sandford Kwinter
Sanford Kwinter's knowledge in modernist culture and contemporary technology allows him to put forward relevant theoretical propositions to direct the emerging architectural frontiers. Reading his essay, 'Who is afraid of formalism' was an inspiring one. By portraying the difference between ’true formalism' and 'poor formalism', he points out the works of poor formalists as a mimic of epistemological advancements of early avant-garde modernists. Reasoning of this argument explains how the poor formalists failed to understand the difference between the idea of ‘form’ and ‘object’. He also points out the importance of understanding the interconnection between ‘the expression of form’ and ‘form of the content’ that opens up myriad opportunities for formalist analysts.Formalism considered as the balance and expression of embedded forces, but the poor formalists fails to perceive this beyond the depth of an outward shell. It lacks the voice or the rules of formation and equilibrium of systems. Furthermore, essay turns pages into the roots of algorthmic/ generative formalism which he states as an invention after Goethe's ideas on type. Deeper layers of knowledge hidden between lines. A must read for all artists and designers searching, shaping new design paradigms. See the link to read the essay, WHO IS AFRAID OF FORMALISM_ SANFORD KWINTER Happy reading, Cheers! Coalescence Lab

This attempt was to generate an algorithm that analyze and map the varying slopes between consecutive contour lines. Mapping helped to understand the site better and was able to develop the design with least terrain disturbance. Working on this code, stay tuned for more! Cheers! Coalescence lab
