‘ it’s a motto that i am very familiar with myself, actually. ’ not one that she’s consulted in a while, but it seems appropriate in the moment. vex has done her fair share of world saving which is a lot in and of itself, but she knows the troubles that can stack on top of that already hefty weight. she lifts her mug to take her own gulp of not-all-that-great-tasting ale. ‘ i don’t believe i caught your name either. ’ the mug clunks on the table in favour of vex extending her hand toward the other woman. ‘ vex’ahlia. and yours ? ’  

 Beau found herself giving the dark-haired woman a crooked grin, fingers tightening around her mug as she lifted it up to take a hearty drink.  “Beau.  Just Beau is fine,” she said with her usual cocky grin as her fingers curled around her hand in a firm shake, “Pleasure to meet you Vex’ahlia.  Now...what would a pretty lady like yourself need to trade alcohol for happiness for?  That just doesn’t seem right.”

immediately calianna’s eyes widened and for a moment there was a passing glean in gold nearly hidden by the obstruction of her hair — less surprise and more immediate irrational anger ( how dare something try to take away what was hers ). it subsided with the ebb of confusion, calianna balking at the idea that yasha would ever do such a thing at all! “uhm…” she forgot how to speak for a moment, trying to piece together the sudden, intense bout of information she’d just been given, so focused on it she hadn’t heard the compliment at all ( sparring her the embarrassment of going totally red, at least ).

“what?” she finally asked, sitting up a little straighter, her tail lashing. “mind-controlled? what happened! oh, i hope i didn’t miss a letter from jester telling me all about this…”

Realizing that perhaps it was a little (lot) of information all at once, Beau snapped her mouth closed with an audible clack of teeth, blowing out a breath between her lips.  Grimacing apologetically, she rubbed the back of her neck as she watched the gears turning in the other woman’s head.  Even just saying it out loud like that had the monk reeling as though it was a shock to the system.  At the time, she had mostly been focused on the immediate issues, and the outlandishness had been ignored for the time, but hindsight proved just how fucked up it actually was.

“Um...it sounds super fucked up, but it’s mostly fine now.  Some demon took control of Yasha,” she said awkwardly, trying to shrug it off with a wry smile, “But we killed him and made sure they couldn’t immediately release the Chained Oblivion, but have to root out the rest of that problem.  And the creepy god thing that Fjord used to serve.  That’s coming for us too.  I think Jester has been a little...preoccupied, I guess?”
