Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:
“The one whose soul craves disobedience but he leaves it for Allāh, those are the ones who Allāh tested their hearts with piety and for them is forgiveness and a tremendous reward."
[al-Fawā’id | 125]
One of the righteous once said:
“When your soul calls you toward sin, reason with it through a gentle discourse, using this Āyah:
{قل أذلك خيرٌ أم جنّةُ الخُلد التي وُعِد المتقون}
‘Say: Is that (sin) better, or the everlasting Garden promised to the righteous?’”
Casablanca -morocco
Ibn al-Qayyim
“Whoever seeks honour,
let him seek it by obedience to Allāh -
through good speech and righteous work.”
[Ighathat'ul Lahfan | V. 2]
Fatir 35:5
O mankind, indeed the promise of Allāh is truth, so let not the worldly life delude you and be not deceived about Allāh by the Deceiver [i.e., Satan].
Fatir 35:6
Indeed, Satan is an enemy to you; so take him as an enemy. He only invites his party to be among the companions of the Blaze.
O Allah, grant my soul a sense of righteousness and purify it,
for You are the best to purify it.
You are its Protector and its Guardian.
Sahih Muslim 2722
Who do I have but You?
And who but You sees my heart and hears it?
Do not attach your heart to any human being!
Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah - may Allah have mercy on him - said:
The heart was created solely for the love of Allah Almighty. Do not scatter your heart in seeking love, security, and perfection from other than Allah. You will not find it, and the heart will continue to be let down by people. And they are all excused, due to their own deficiency and weakness. You will continue to be disappointed and hurt until you become certain that true attachment is only befitting for Allah, and that the heart does not find rest, tranquility, and a sense of security except with Allah. So, love others for the sake of Allah, in accordance with Allah's will, and to please Allah -not to please yourself. And whoever pleases Allah , He will please them, even if after a while.
Majmoo' al-Fataawa, 10/134
Imam al-Dhahabi narrated in Siyar A‘lam al-Nubala’ that Kulthum bint Abi Bakr used to say: "I prayed to Allah to grant me a husband who would pour love upon me abundantly, and who would be devoted in worship to Allah." So Allah blessed her with Talhah ibn ‘Ubaydullah, one of the ten companions promised Paradise.
And it was narrated from her by the early generations that she said: "Whenever he saw me, his face would brighten with joy; when he heard my voice, he would smile. If I cried, he cried with me. He would not sleep until he was sure I was warm and comfortable in bed. He never left a prayer without supplicating for me before himself. When I fell ill, he would share my pain as if the sickness were in his own body. His heart would not rest until I was seated beside him. When we ate, he would hurry to feed me with his own hand before feeding himself. I was his pride and honour; both in private and in public."
