Tw: mild body horror

Honestly this was so fun! I tried a few different things, like bug body part or extra stuff like a tail (that I didn’t keep).

I leaned more towards the centipede concept, with markings of where the transformation would have continued. I saw some nice interpretations making him more like a moth, but I didn’t like it for my design.

I still wanted to combine him with a more "positive" insect, so I chose a firefly (pretty fitting). The parts around his wrists and ankles can glow whenever he wants to, it's not that different from when he uses his powers (I've read that fireflies glow sometimes to show that they are not tasty, to attract certain prey, and for mating purposes. The first two fit with the Land of Monsters, and the last one gave me the fun idea of Kai glowing when he feels flustered).

My final design has the full body insect and the firefly characteristics. Also I hc that his mind is intact even if he looks like this.

...Unlike the last drawing which shows the full "bad ending" monster form. Fun fact: one of the mandibles is permanently outside the mouth, since that side if his face got deformed and torn.

Centipede Kai doodles/ideas!

This is inspired by the amazing fic “but I thought about how warm you were (so it wouldn’t really matter anyhow)” by VentiAladdin on Ao3! Basically Monstrosity!Kai got sent to Movie universe and accidentally became a villain.

So I had made some designs of Kai in a what I’m theorizing he will eventually wear since his ninja gi is torn. My thought process was that he’s poor so he can’t get any actual materials or suits so he is bundling himself up in whatever he can get his hands on.

Design 1 and 2 are centered more in the realm of actuality (clothes he can actually get his hands on and how he would actually style it) while Design 3 is more fantastical. Design 1 is more focus on bundling himself up due to his malnourished state (to hide himself and his insecurities+ injuries/scars) while also offering more protection. Design 2 is more casual wear- meant to blend in. (P.s I hate how I drew the pants in D2 but they are basically those Japanese folded pants- also the shirt is inspired by series Lloyd. I imagine he found it in a dumpster and got nostalgic)

Also!! The centipede Kai is all me, these r my headcanons of what I like to think Kai has transformed to and what changes he has undergone. This is purely what the Omukade has done and has not factored Fuzz. If yall want I’ll go into the gritty details (all that science jazz)

AGAIN PLZ READ: this is only INSPIRED by the amazing fic but r all my personal headcanons. This not at all a suggestion or demands of the author nor it any of it described in the fic. Ninjago Kai Headcanon

Kai got his scar early after his parents left when a drunkard villager came one night looking to steal some of the very valuable metal and tools (since there was no one there to protect it).

Kai was still staying up late waiting for his parents return, right by the front door. The wanna-be burglar broke in and Kai tried to stop him.

but what’s a child to a fully grown man? They fought and the man broke his bottle over Kai’s head and used the broken pieces to try to stab him, giving him his scar. Kai, surrounded by weapons cause it’s a BLACKSMITH SHOP hit the burglar over the head with whatever he could grab aaaannnd the rest is history (personally I like to think Kai killed him but anyone can put there own spin).

Edit: as I was writing this out I decided to make a one shot of what I think happened, the full story) and I’ll post it both here and on ao3 (maybe I’ll even make a comic if I have time)

Danny's core gets partially shattered with the shards scattered across the world. The JL are tasked by Clockwork to pull an Inuyasha and set out to gather the shards so that Danny's core could be repaired.

When the Ancient of Time had come to them, the JL wasn't sure what they were expecting, maybe some kind of threat, or to be told there was an imminent danger, but they certainly weren't expecting to told to recover the shards of a crystal artifact, about the size of a golfball, glowing and pulsing with a faint energy even as shards. Batman hadn't trusted it, had wanted to know what the artifact was and what it did, why it had been destroyed and why it was so important that the being of Time itself had them out to retrieve the rest of the shards, but they had no choice, and no member of the JL dark could identify the artifact as it was, so they set out, and eventually managed to track down the last piece. On returning all the fragments, they seemed to pull towards each other, like they were wishing to be whole again. as all but the final piece were rejoined, the being of time appeared, and gently clutched the artifact to their chest, placing the last piece with a near silent whisper of “my son, you were so strong, it’s ok now, i found you.” before vanishing.
