OHSHC and What they forgot on the first day of school

Mori: His voice

My orange cat tried to yeet himself out my 3rd story window while I was installing my air conditioner, and I think that’s very Hikaru coded. There was not a thought in that head, he saw a new space to explore, and went for it.

OHSHC Back to School Shopping

We’re ignoring that Honey and Mori would’ve graduated. Another school year at Ouran Academy is about to begin! What are each of the Host Club members looking forward to buying?

Honey - A new lunchbox. His lunch boxes are fancy af. They are cute, they are kept cool, and they have incredible storage for all of his cakes and snacks. This year he tracked down a limited edition bunny lunch box, and he couldn’t stop talking about it and showing it off to the ladies.

Hikaru - Locker decorations. Hikaru’s locker is decked OUT! He has a mini disco ball, every type of magnet conceivable, a mini battery operated vacuum (that he does not use), a mirror, and even more locker gadgets my commoner mind cannot think of. Even Haruhi is impressed by his locker.

Tamaki - Back to school new clothes. He remembers going shopping for clothes with his mom when he was little, and he’s been chasing that high at the start of the school year ever since. Tamaki’s outfit choices are typically questionable at best, but that doesn’t stop him from going into every single store searching for clothes, love, and acceptance. He will walk out with one of those things.

Haruhi - New pens. Haruhi is resourceful and usually either repurposes things from previous years, but she’s weak when all of the pens are on display and on sale. She’s still looking for a replacement pen that’s as good as the one that the twins STOLE and then sold on the Host Club website.

Mori - Textbooks. While not the biggest reader in the world, Mori does enjoy the quiet process of getting his book list, ordering all of the textbooks, and then skimming through the pages to see what the next year will hold, as far as school is concerned. It’s an introspective process, and he’ll tell his pets what he’s looking forward to. Whoops, it might just be university students that buy textbooks… oh well.

Kaoru - New shoes. While he and Hikaru do end up matching a lot, it’s because Kaoru is the one to pick out what shoes they wear. He is a giant shoe enthusiast, something he probably got from his mother instead of her attention, and he will absolutely stand in overnight lines for the latest shoe fashion. Well… he’ll send somebody to do the actual standing in line, but he’ll send them snacks. Maybe.

Kyoya - Notebooks. He is VERY particular about his notebooks, the color of the paper, grid vs dot vs lined, the subject DOES influence that, the quality of the paper, the cover, wire spirals vs plastic vs staples, he’s VERY particular. Kyoya does use his laptop a lot, but for notes on the go? That’s all accounted for in his notebooks, so he has to have the most top quality of notebooks. He is also still on the look out for a Death Note but that’s a different conversation.

Bonus! Renge - Buying new anime folders. It doesn’t matter the time of the year, she can always validate buying them, but buying them at the beginning of the school year to pump herself up for her studies just feels extra right.

It’s getting hot in here… and for once, it’s not because the Host Club just walked in the room. Excessive heat warning! How are the members handling it?

Tamaki: He would claim that he is the definition of Mr. Calm, Cool, and Collected, but he has never been any of those things. He does though manage to seem not phased by the heat… at least in the company of any ladies. As soon as the ladies leave, he’s melting into a puddle on the ground and complains loud enough for everyone to hear it. 

Haruhi: Goes to the pool, humors the neighborhood children and sets up a sprinkler, makes homemade fruit popsicles, eats chilled watermelon, sits under a large umbrella. She’s not the biggest fan of the extreme heat, but Haruhi is resourceful. She’ll find a way to stay cool.

Kyoya: You will not catch this man breaking a singular bead of sweat. As soon as his phone dings with that excessive heat warning notification, he has a plane booked to literally anywhere that is not this goddamn hot, and is gone. Even his entire family thinks he’s rotting in his room, but no, he’s fucked off to an entire different continent. He’ll catch you in a week once the weather has decided to be reasonable again.

Hikaru: A menace in the best way. Hikaru comes prepared with water squirters, water balloons, those clown flowers that shoot out water, sponges to fill with water to chuck at people, you name it. He takes the heat as an excuse to absolutely LAUNCH a water filled anything at someone, and while initially annoyed, the victim ends up thanking Hikaru for the cool surprise. 

Mori: Swims laps in the pool. Can you think of a better way to cool off? The sun might be working hard, but Mori works harder. He is staying fit and fun out in the sun. Completely unbothered.

Kaoru: Kaoru uses the time to binge play video games and whatever manga he’s behind on inside. Why would he run around outside when his house has the latest state of the art air conditioner? You think his mom, uber fashion model, would allow for sweat stains? Absolutely not, his house is chilled to perfection, part of the problem of global warming, but when it’s this hot? Kaoru does not care. Let the world burn, he’d rather freeze.

Honey: Run. When it is this sticky, humid, and overall disgustingly hot outside, you think our loli boy can sleep? You think he can take his little cozy nappy time with his blanket? There is no wrath like that of a no nap time Honey. Run. Maybe get some ice cake to offer up as a sacrifice. Good luck to all who dare cross his path.

The OHSHC Members at a Taylor Swift Concert

Kyoya - Knows a guy so he got a backstage pass and snapped a cute picture with Taylor. He’s vaguely indifferent on the inside since she’s not necessarily his type of music, but he knows that Taylor Swift is power, and uses the photo to his advantage.

Kaoru - His mother finally stepped in, and created a stunning outfit because she refuses to let her son go to a Taylor Swift concert in the clothes he normally wears. He will put some goddamn respect in the Taylor Swift and Hitachiin names. Cries during Enchanted and All Too Well.

Mori - He stands like the dads in all of those videos of the dads waiting for their daughters outside Taylor Swift’s concert venues. By the end though, he’s bopping along, having fun, maybe even singing softly (and then loudly because the ENERGY), and has a lovely time.

Honey - Freaking PISSED CAUSE HE CAN’T SEE! Ends up being the “child” Taylor gives her hat to and shakes his hand. He does not care that Taylor thought he was in elementary school, he will take what he can get.

Haruhi - No way in HELL this girl could afford a ticket. She was planning on standing outside with some of her friends from middle school with a picnic so they could at least hear the music and enjoy the vibes. When the Host Club heard this, they all separately, and without telling each other, bought Haruhi a ticket. With the abundance of tickets, Haruhi added that to her never ending bill to the Club and invited her high school friends to also come along, because Haruhi ain’t leaving her friends behind, Taylor would not approve.

Hikaru - RE:::: His mother finally stepped in, and created a stunning outfit because she refuses to let her son go to a Taylor Swift concert in the clothes he normally wears. He will put some goddamn respect in the Taylor Swift and Hitachiin names. His theme song is “Ready for It?” complete with dramatic glasses and head banging. He IS ready for it.

Tamaki - Think of the best Eras outfit you’ve seen so far… and amplify it by 10x. Tamaki is EXTRA, you know his outfit would be too. The man dresses in costumes on the daily, you think he would just roll up to the Swiftie concert of the century in a restrained and respectable way? Absolutely not! Feathers, glitter, jewels, think of the sound “swish” as he walks by, he has it *all*.

Bonus:

Renge - Somehow manages to be a backup dancer. She enters the stage on one of her raising stages, and the Host Club loses their *shit* because HOW? And IT REALLY DOES FOLLOW HER EVERYWHERE!

Ouran High School Host Club writing letters

[summer camp season is starting up and I'm devastated I won't be working at one this year. I'm writing letters to my old campers and to my family members as well. For me, summer time is when you write letters.]

Tamaki - loopy cursive, impossible to read, glitter pens, probably uses 5 different colors, writes in smiley and sad faces, adds in his own drawings, all the exclamation marks !!!!!!!!!, probably sprays on a whiff of cologne, the letter is a gift from the Paper Gods.

Hikaru - on the absolute opposite end of the spectrum, Hikaru just rips out a sheet of ruled notebook paper, leaves the shreds of paper on at the end, nearly impossible to read because it's most likely been crumpled, good luck deciphering this "found at the bottom of your backpack at the end of the year" note from Hell.

Kyoya - expensive ass ivory colored paper. Doesn't even sign his name at the bottom, the receiver already knows it's from him. Short sentences, periods only, formal salutations, has the look and feel of getting a bill (and in Haruhi’s case, it probably is one).

Mori - fancy monogrammed paper with his name at the top. His notes are also fairly short, but he includes printed out photographs of all his pets and maybe a garden, because of COURSE he has printed out photos of all his animals.

Kaoru - Uses the perforated edges when tearing out his piece of notebook paper so the shreds are at least gone. Somehow blinked and realized he's written 3 pages front and back worth of stories, rantings, and catching the receiver up on whatever shenanigans and pranks that he and Hikaru have recently pulled on Tamaki.

Haruhi - honestly her letters are cute. Her dad bought her some fun stationery with flower patterns and then she bought herself a set with her favorite character. She only validated it though because it was on sale. The kind her dad bought her isn’t exactly her type, but she doesn’t want it to go to waste. Haruhi shares updates on the Host Club, her dad, her classes, and a new recipe she just tried. If you’re lucky, she’ll add in a card with the recipe.

Honey - has the CUTEST stationery. He has aaaaall that sanrio and sumikko gurashi paper shit with all the characters decorating the paper and the envelope. He actually writes like a normal person. One pen, regular pink color, a varying amount of exclamation marks, periods, and question marks, has a beginning, middle and end, and smells like strawberries. Includes a sticker.

Hikaru and Kaoru would be fucking MENACES with these frogs that are on the top of the tumblr screen. I don’t know why they’re here or for how long, but the twins would make them everyone else’s problem. Kyoya is trying to hack the main frame as we speak to remove these goddamn frogs

The Host Club’s Summer Reading Plans

Honey - Finally getting to his backlog of Stephen King novels. He is looking forward to the confused looks on peoples’ faces when they walk by and see his cute baby face reading the scariest and most disturbing books known to man. 

Mori - Audiobooks. This man has some big summer plans between training and competitions, so he’s found a few audiobooks to download. A lot of books on history, Japanese samurai history, a few world economy books but tbh he might skip those

Kaoru - Summer is the only time of the year where Kaoru can get away with playing video games and binge reading manga all day. No one is on his case to study extra or to do something, so he loves getting caught up on all of his favorite series.

Hikaru - Whattup I’m Jared Hikaru, I’m 19 and I never learned how to read. Just kidding, being the codependent brother that he is, he reads manga over Kaoru’s shoulder until Kaoru can’t take the heat literally, and makes Hikaru wait to read the volumes once he’s done with them. 

Haruhi - Haruhi loves making a huuuuge and impossible TBR list, and then reads like ... 11 pages from a singular book. Most of the books are “for fun” books, contemporary, nothing too heavy. Just ways to escape for a little while. 

Kyoya - Hot take… he does not read. He does not read “for fun.” Everything has a purpose. He reads to study, he reads so he knows where to take Tamaki on their next travel trip, he reads to get ahead, he does not waste his time on fictional nonsense. He brings a business related book on the big family vacation to appease his mom, but 1) she complains that it’s not a relaxing or fun book, and 2) the information is worthless anyways and stuff Kyoya already knows. He leaves it on the nightstand. 

Tamaki - Summer romance beach reads type of hopeless romantic. He claims it’s “for the Host Club” because he will better know what the ladies like and how to better meet their ~fantasies~. Really, he just likes reading about people who are loved and found families.

OHSHC as characters from Abbott Elementary

AN: I’ve been binge watching Abbott Elementary lately, and it’s been all consuming. I absolutely LOVE it! Highly recommend, 10/10. It’s funny, it’s about the struggles of teaching, it’s sweet, it makes me cry, I love it.

Tamaki - Janine (Mr. Can Do Positive Attitude Can Conquer All over here, refuses to give up, a bit oblivious to others, does wild friend gestures that are not always well received, and has the mommy issues to boot. :) ) 

Haruhi - Gregory (why am I here vibes, but eventually gets into it, and decides to stick around of their own free will. High key judges everyone. Somehow gets wrapped up in all of the crazy shenanigans.)

Mori - Barbara (it’s the whole Mori fully believing Honey would go easy on his brother because in Honey’s heart, Mori knows that his little brother is more important than eating cake… and then Honey absolutely decimating Honey, and Mori once again being disappointed by society. Mori wants to see the good in people… and yet.)

Kyoya - Melissa - (While Kyoya might not dirty his own hands, he knows *everybody*, and he is not afraid to blackmail. He knows everyone’s secrets, and like Melissa, he’s resourceful. Kyoya and Melissa are just different fonts of the same type of “fuck with me, and you’re done” character.)

Hikaru - Ava (He’s always scheming, is also sometimes a bit oblivious to those around him, and would never pass over an opportunity to make fun of Tamaki/Janine) 

Kaoru - Jacob (Kaoru is well meaning (generally), sometimes misses the mark, prone to ramblings others might not understand (re: pumpkins and family and staying the same), and even if he gives his friends shit, he is loyal till the end.) 

Honey - Mr. Johnson (Generally in a good mood, that unsuspecting character who does random shit in the background, has a wild backstory that you only learn about in bits and pieces… look, it fits.)

In fanfiction there is a difference between being a good writer and a popular writer. 

Just because you can write a well-structured story with dynamic and consistent writing and characters doesn’t mean you will be popular. And sometimes stories that have disorganized plots, mediocre writing, and/or OOC characters will be held up as the greatest things to ever exist. 

Just because your writing isn’t popular doesn’t mean you are a bad writer. Don’t ever compromise who you are, who your characters are, your plot, your writing style, anything for the sake of readership.

There are popular writers everywhere. But there are only so many good writers.

And hey, shoutout to all the not-so-good writers, too! Those of us who write in another language than our own, and those of us who have disorganized plots and ooc characters!

Being a popular writer is good, being a good writer is good, but you know what? Just being a writer, just to write, is good, too! Not every meal can be a five star creation - sometimes, a cheesy sloppy burger with questionable ingredients is JUST what someone needs and craves.

So write your mediocre stories, too. Good or bad, popular or unpopular. We all start somewhere, we all end up somewhere. The journey is the adventure. Keep writing. :)

Imagine Haruhi randomly feeling the chaotic influence of the Host Club and deciding to bring cascarones to a club meeting.

“Aaand what are these again?” Hikaru asked, voice full of judgment as he stared at the brightly colored eggs.

“These are cascarones.” Haruhi said, and picked one up. She turned to Kyoya, but the look in his eyes made her see a lifetime of debt and despair, so she turned to a safer option. She crushed the egg in her hand just before it made contact with Mori’s head, and released the egg shell and confetti, ruffling his hair to ensure it wouldn’t fall out too easily.

The twins’ eyes widened in excitement with a glint of trouble as they immediately picked up an egg each.

“Everyone has two cartons.” Haruhi said solemnly. “Use them wisely.”

Chaos and destruction unlike any ever seen at the Host Club quickly ensued.

There is no such thing as brotherhood or allies when a cascarones battle takes place. Tamaki was the subject of an uprising against the king. Kyoya lost all inhibition and went after the little loli boy who ran up the Host Club bank account with all his purchases of sweets. Mori also had beef with the same little loli boy, especially after he chose cake over his own brother, and Mori was left with the metaphorical “egg on his face.” Mori simply decided to return the favor.

Haruhi allowed her inner “mischievous type” to take over, and while she wasn’t quite brave (or stupid) enough to crack confetti in Kyoya’s hair directly, she did sneak over to his bag and hide a few. That night, when Kyoya swung his bag to the ground at home and heard a distinctive “crack,” he assumed it had been the twins and vowed to make them pay. Everything went according to Haruhi’s plan.

Tamaki, bless his heart, tripped over his own feet while trying to escape the onslaught of eggs, and crushed half his carton. Distracted by the pretty colors, he pranced about, desperately trying to fling the already crushed egg and confetti pieces on to the other Host Club members. Unfortunately, a window was open, and most of the confetti ended up back on him.

Hikaru made the “mistake” of finding a carton of regular eggs, which promptly resulted in everyone running for cover and ending the cascarones fight.

Because Haruhi made the error of introducing the eggs inside, it took over a week for the Music Room to return to some resemblance of its former, non-confetti egged self. Three months later, Hikaru found a few traces of confetti and a singular egg stashed away in the piano. Rumor has it, he’s still waiting for the perfect time to attack Tamaki.
