It’s been three days since the funeral. It was the first I attended in a long while. The flowers are starting to wilt, and the candles are just puddles of wax. They ignore your name, change the subject when it comes up. Like they want to forget.

But I don’t. I look into your photo, your face frozen mid laugh and it hits me. How silent it is without your smile to light the way. I wonder if it was this quiet before you came. I do not cry, the tears just don’t come. Sometimes I hear jingles in the hallway and I throw open the door. And all I see is your face staring back, the red cross scratching out you eyes. I miss you. I’m sorry. please, won’t you come back?
