One of the reasons I love Steve Rogers is that he's openly and consistently against any kind of systematic, large-scale violence like genocide, nuclear bombs, shootings, and that kind of thing, but the moment a Nazi opens their mouth, he's loading his fist.

He is the son of a single mother who was an Irish immigrant, he's born and raised in New York City in the 1930s, he shared his childhood with Bucky Barnes, he was terribly ill for more than half his life, he hates bullies, he was willingly experimented on, and he has fought in one of the most violent conflicts of world's history. All this has created a paradox where he won't strike first if he can avoid it, because he greatly values the ideals of love and respect for others, but also, he charges these ideals in all the blows he delivers. "Dad, can I go to the movies with my friends?" Chris asked from the doorway.

Buck continued mixing batter.

"...Dad!" Chris repeated louder after a confused pause.

Buck jumps, nearly dropping the bowl. "Wha- Oh! Me! Right!" He still hadn't gotten used to hearing Chris call him that. Some days he'd take it in stride, but moments like this, when he wasn't expecting it... It was like hearing it for the first time again. He could feel the tears start to build up in his eyes.

"...You're gonna cry again, aren't you?" Chris grinned and shook his head.

"No!" Buck defended, quickly rubbing his eyes with a part of his arm not covered in flour. "I-I'm good!"

Eddie walked in from the living room, having heard Christopher's yell. It only took him a moment to catch up to the situation. "It's been 6 months..." He said with fondness, a smile growing on his face.

"I'm sorry, it's just... I love it so much..." Buck did cry, a couple tears falling down his cheek. He sniffled. Eddie stepped closer, holding his arms out. Buck leaned forward instantly, burying his head into the crook of his husband's neck. The mixing bowl between them made it a little awkward, but Eddie wrapped an arm around his back and the other ran gently through silky curls.

"Shh, it's okay..." Eddie continued to smile and gently kissed Buck's ear. Chris slowly made his way over to his parents, wrapping an arm around both of them.

"...So, can I go to the movies? He repeated into the hug, making everyone laugh.
