I think it's pretty cool that Merlin is okay with murdering someone every week. Always makes me sad when they make him well-adjusted in fanfics. Let that man be insane
Canon AU
Arthur never died and Merlin had all the time in the world to show him that magic isn’t necessarily evil.
“As punishment for lying to me, you have to muck out the stables for two weeks though, Merlin.”
“But—”
“You can use your magic now.”
“Oh.”
“None of us can choose our destiny, and none of us can escape it.” 🏰🐉✨
The characters in BBC Merlin simultaneously did and didn’t deserve everything that happened to them.
ALL. OF. THIS.
i'm sorry i never did your tag game. i love you
prompt: man
write a fic in 50 words (or more if the mood strikes you) and tag @merthurmicrofic so we can all enjoy your work! art, gifsets, essays, mood boards and so on are also welcome.
Thanks to @julia-with-luv for this prompt 😌

Merlin & Arthur Pendragon BBC MERLIN (2008–2012) 1.02 "Valiant"
Did Arthur ever stop to wonder how incompetent their guards must be to get knocked out by Merlin?
Writers, you really, really, really need to stop obsessing over your stats. Saw someone on the ao3 subreddit posting about how their hits to kudos ratio is 1%, and that says it all, really, about how people feel about their work.
No, it does not. It's absolutely meaningless. Your ratio of kudos to hits is always going to be incredibly small. I calculated one of my fics out of curiosity, and do you know what my percentage was? 1.5. I looked at one of the most popular fics in fandom, the kind of fic you get in your Welcome to the Fandom starter kit, and do you know what the percentage of kudos to hits was for that fic? 3.7. 3.7% on a fic that is the third most kudosed fic of all time in a fandom of more than 70,000 fics.
That's because your hits do not indicate how many individual readers read your work. A hit is generated every time someone clicks the link to your fic or reloads the page. It's counting people who reread your work (some of them many times), people who saved your work to read for later, people who have your fic open in a tab for twenty million years (guilty) but have not actually read it yet, people who fat fingered and clicked the link when they didn't mean to, people whose browsers reloaded the page, etc. and so forth.
Yes, some of the people who read your work did not like it enough to kudos it. That happens to literally every single writer on ao3. But they are not what's driving that percentage. You have absolutely no idea how many individual readers are engaging with your work and are beating yourself up over a number that is never going to accurately reflect how many readers enjoyed your work enough to kudos it vs. how many did not like it enough to kudos it. You have got to stop measuring your work by these absolutely useless metrics.
'It is my destiny to protect Arthur.' 'How? Your magic is powerless against the Dorocha.' 'Then I must sacrifice myself in his place.'
