She was here for one reason and one reason only, a certain someone who had peaked her interest a long time ago. She leaned back, lifting a shoulder. “Chivalry has died and you’ve taken it with you, Caspian. Every young woman will have you to pin point the blame upon.” She had paid with some bills freed from her own wallet, the wine had come complimentary of one of the patrons of the bar– Selene no longer had her compulsion, but her charm was innate. His words pitched a sigh from the blonde and blue eyes rolled in response. “Melodrama, you Stanislavs are all the same. Theatrical as always, but never practical.” She reached forward, pouring him a glass of the red that she was sipping. “My meal would be free, but to then have to spend forever explaining that a bad day was the cause of your end? I’d rather shell out for the entire building. Have some wine, maybe attempt to behave yourself.” It wasn’t like her to scold, but dramatics were only preferable when she was the one performing. “Do you need a distraction, perhaps?” Selene leaned forward, lips stained bloody from her drink and she smiled, beatific. “I’ve got an hour or two, we can talk about old times.”

            “I’m to blame for a lot of things around here, what’s one more thing to add to my list” with a click of his fingers the waiter approached, Caspian not even making eye contact with someone so beneath him despite how human he was; he was still above everyone else, a trait he would never quite lose. “Ahh but you forget, I’m the prettiest one” said with now a hint of a smirk, always talking himself up as if he had to -- another trait of his he would never let die. The bustling restaurant was beginning to give him a headache, a funny thought that traveled to his lips as he hadn’t felt something so mundane in many lifetimes. The only thing that kept him in his seat was the blonde across the way, a blossoming friendship and a chaotic one; those were, after all, the best kinds. “Why talk when we can simply relive? Are you not at all worried about how easy it was for us to be turned into little mice?”

Selene slung her purse over her shoulder, pausing only when she caught sight of familiar azure eyes. The Stanislav’s were familiar to her, she knew Zephyr and the others well, but Caspian liked to stand apart. Her lips, painted crimson, curved upwards in a sly smile and she strode towards him, pleased for the attention that the weight of his stare brought. “You know, your timing is terrible.” The blonde glanced back, over her shoulder. “If you’d of been just an hour earlier, you could have paid for my meal.” In this stint of being human she was enjoying indulgences that a vampire had no use for: fine dining, the flush that flooded pale cheeks after too much wine, warm sunlight. She’d also indulged too much in the company of a hunter, but he was just as addictive as the wine she liked so much, and tonight had been a way to cut herself off. “Humanity doesn’t suit you Caspian,” Selene noted, delighted to tease him. “You almost seem fragile.”

            Torture. That was the only appropriate word to describe the day Caspian was having .. and many others by the looks and the tension he noticed on the island. It had been a very long time since he had been a mere human that he forgot what it felt like. If he was being honest, and he usually wasn’t, he fucking hated it. To have been someone so feared, someone who would walk this earth and watch others perish just to have it all taken away from him in a blink of an eye -- to say he was furious was an understatement. “I haven’t paid for a meal in some time, I’m not going to start today” the smile that pulled at his cheeks never quite reached his eyes as the vampire turned human took up a seat opposite someone he usually spent a lot of time in bed with -- she was fun, flirty, had an adventurous spark about her that sent Caspain ablaze. “Give me another day and you might have to save me from jumping off a bridge, Selene” not his usual demeanor she would be used too; hell, not even he was. “Perhaps I should slit my throat right here .. death at your dinner table, surely your meal would be on the house then, hm?”

With balance being restored on the Island, it only seemed fitting for Caspian to go out and indulge a little .. taking a few unwilling humans back to his house for a small party of his own felt like a drug. The feeling of immortality coursing through his body was magic, despite the pain he had endured when getting it back. Caspian looked his dinner in the eyes, those dead delicious eyes he thanked before footsteps neared his doors - Rhys had arrived and it was only then that Caspian realized he’d also eaten his brothers dinner. “What can I say, I don’t know the meaning of stop” he chuckled, blood still covering his ever bright happy face. “But feel free to act like an Ozdemir and lick the floor, little brother”

Jasper ran his fingers haphazardly along the weathered spines of books that looked like they hadn’t been opened in at least a century, watching with a bored fascination as the dust particles kicked up in his wake before brushing the grime off on the leg of his shorts. “ So was there something you were looking for exactly, or…? “ His brow quirking as he cast a glance over at Valencia. It wasn’t like he minded coming to the apothecary per say, but he enjoyed it a hell of a lot better with magic kissing his fingertips, now there was nothing - except for the crumpled package of gummy worms in his pocket that he promptly pulled out. He fished one out of the bag, flinging it out towards the brunette in an offering. “ Want one? “ 

            She didn’t know why she was here, not like she could use any of this shit now that her magic had been stolen from her. Perhaps it felt like home, the closest thing she had to a touch of magic save for the presence of Ramona. Perfectly painted nails dragged across the black candles that caught her attention before it was suddenly stripped away and Jasper’s voice echoed through her. “A will to live?” she answered dramatically with a roll her of her eyes. “Seeing as I can no longer torture my victims with a little magic, I thought why not buy some pretty scented candles to lift my mood --- no, Jasper, I don’t want your dirty pocket worms. Now if you happen to have magic inside your other pocket I’ll be happy to take that off your hands --” the anger was evident on her features as she strolled away from him, knowing he would be in tow chewing this gummies as if it was a normal day in fucking paradise. “What’re we going to bloody do” a mumble that he would surely hear.

Despite the teasing words that were effortlessly hurled at her best friend, Ramona herself wasn’t exactly at fucking ease with the lack of magic flowing in her veins – magic that belonged to them both and was no one else’s to take, yet here they were, indeed held captive and powerless. No, no, no, this would not do. “I am starting to wonder if we should have done more sacrifices during our last ritual.” Ramona mused, now only opening her eyes as gaze lazily found its way to those so often furious hues. “Maybe we have been too kind.”  

            “Stupid whore” Valencia teased back, followed by a small jump that had her off the dresser and onto Ramona’s bed, laying flat on her stomach that was indeed in knots over the entire ordeal. They were now left vulnerable, no magic to defend themselves against the enemies that were sure to be knocking on their door anytime soon. It was safe to say Valencia would rather die than give up the one thing that made her feel whole on this wretched earth. “As much as I love a good ritual, I’m not sure that would have helped a great deal, Ro. This is beyond even our magic, as wonderful and tasty as it is -- we have to choose a side” she spoke through bitter clenched lips, fingers tracing the bumps in the blankets while her mind raced through every possibility she could think of. “Although I think I know whose side we’re on”

Looking for someone at a party attended by what she was almost certain was the entire island was almost as difficult as she remembered it being. Though she’d spent her time away from Grand Manan skipping from one place to another, it wasn’t exactly of the norm, for her to be at a masquerade. Once she’d let Eros off the hook to go battle his way through the soccer moms and widows - a sentiment that became more amusing the more she thought about it, Colette set herself upon the task of really looking for Royce. It felt like hours since she’d seen him, and some part of her didn’t like that, in the least. The murmurs of a panic slipped beneath her fingertips as she flexed them against the grand bannister and overlooked the crowd - searching for that familiarity. There. She looked up, spotting him across the room on the second floor, looking almost directly at her. It took only a few moments for her to join him, her arm slipping into the crook of his elbow almost instinctively, “There you are, you know how hard it is to find someone in this place? I feel like I’ve been looking all night.” Leaning into the bannister, she looked down at the dancefloor below and smiled, “So, how are you finding the island so far?”

            The nights air kissed the vampires skin as wandering eyes stole a glance at the sky, the music from the party singing sweet songs in his ears. He’d told himself he would show face, perhaps give his support despite not caring at all about the situation, and then leave and never look back on the night; but not before he got to see her. Colette, a woman who dug her way into his dead heart and then ripping it in two not long after. It had been many years since Royce had cared for anyone save for his brother, especially a female - until the Red Head strolled into his life. To say that Royce enjoyed the friendship they discovered was an understatement. He enjoyed it that much that when she decided it was time to leave, he compelled her to stay. That one compulsion led to another, and another until now it was too late. He loved his little friend, yet hated her for leaving -- ooh the games he played with her brought upon that evil smirk he so often hid from prying eyes, yet he still somewhat cared for her. A dangerous game he was playing, one he didn’t see finishing anytime soon. A cigarette fell from his fingers before he stalked back inside, awaiting the arrival of Colette before those blue eyes of his spotted her across the way. “Seek and you shall find” there was a time when Royce would have flinched at the touch of another female, someone who wasn’t Lilith, but not now; Colette was a constant in his life, one he enjoyed, yet something she had no control over. “Better now that you’re here” his free hand that didn’t house a drink or a cigarette cupped her face as he turned to face her, a playful smile painted on his lips. “You’re not going to ask me to dance are you, Lette? Those puppy dog eyes don’t work on me”

She feels the hunger as a sharp pang, as if nothing could satiate the woman now. Her body remembering the inhibition all too well to be reigned in now. The purse she brought was too small for a blood bag, her first mistake. Melinda had been too occupied earlier to make sure she’d eaten that now moving about the great hall she was acutely aware of each and every heartbeat. The human, Jake, had made it fairly easy to even call it luring that Melinda barely had to say a word before he was suggesting they take in the night’s fresh air. He was drunk or getting near it, apparent in the way he tripped over his steps more than once. Idiot. she thought all the while smiling and laughing at the jokes he told. The stables were unoccupied thankfully and she pushes him against the nearest wall, ‘Someone’s feisty’ he chuckles and Mel makes a mental apology before she’s sinking her teeth in, an instant relief washing over her. She imagines the line where she should stop, where she can have her fill and have Jake on his merry way. But he tastes too good and she’s about to surpass the line when she senses someone approaching. Pulling back she quickly compels him; Forget this happened go home and sleep it off. Dazed he’s already heading out the other exit when someone else enters. Wiping at her mouth, the black gloves a good choice, she turns to see who interrupted. “Sorry to disappoint but there’s no horses here to pet.” 

            The boredom had made its way to Royce a little earlier than he expected, and there was only two ways to cure such a boredom in the eyes of the vampire; sex, drugs and blood .. the latter winning over the other two rather easily. The stables were empty as Royce had his fill of one of the many humans who stumbled into him. “Thank you, for your service” his voice a mere whisper as he compelled the young girl and sent her on her way. Propping himself up on a hail bail in the dark corner, his lighter and cigarette in hand before he witnessed something amazing right in front of him. It seemed he wasn’t the only vampire sick and tired of eating horderves. A quick jump off his rather comfortable seat and he emerged from the darkness and met with the light, blood from his last dinner still painted upon his features. “How lucky am I, dinner and a show -- You wouldn’t happen to have a napkin handy, I seemed to have spilled Jessica all over myself”

Ayaz had every intention of having a few quiet ones at his local before turning in for the evening. Given the babysitter he had organized for his niece was new and their arrival to the Island of Grand Manan hadn’t exactly been complete smooth sailing. But when the opportunity to make his own introduction to the locals arrived within the form of a masquerade at one of the various wealthy estates, he couldn’t very well just turn in for the evening. Most of which succeeding his arrival had been spent being the silent observer until darkened hues lifted from the beverage in hand to drink in the sight before him. A woman seemed to have something of a similar plan, only to be interrupted by a male whom had clearly had a few too many. Shifting from his position the special agent approached the pair, attention landing on that of the woman before his harsh stare moved to that of her unwelcomed company. “Is there a problem here?” He questioned without missing a beat. 

             “And here I was thinking I was about to witness the first fight of the evening” Royce sat on the opposite end of the bar, he too watching the events before him unfold, a little excited to see something go down at this so called party. “And who’re you supposed to be hm? The party police? -- where’s your badge?” he snickered to himself, smoke filling the air around him as if the pair never went anywhere without one another.

By the half light of a suspensor lamp, the heiress made her way through the intricate maze that were the Marzan estate gardens. The silence that surrounded her aside from her own clipped footfalls was a much welcomed relief from the chaos inside. Only it seemed she wasn’t the only one with such ideas as another figure came into view up ahead. “And here I was under the impression that the party was inside, perhaps I was mistaken?” The heiress teased in her soft contralto, as chocolate hues lifted to drift over the other. “Unless the real challenge of this whole thing is to locate the main event obscured underground in a series of secret tunnels? Because that would make this ostentatious soiree much more intriguing.“  

             Royce was never one for a crowd, unless it was at his own establishment where he felt most at home. He’d been at the mansion all of five minutes before the laughter and useless small talk was enough for his ears and he found himself walking the gardens alone - alone with his thoughts that were the demons that haunted him day in and day out. Those same ears picked up on tender footsteps that seemed to near before his eyes locked onto Natalia in the near distance. “If you could call that a party” a quick remark as he crossed the grass, the chill of the night settling on the ground. “I doubt they’re smart enough to even come up with something like that, Nat; but you’ve just given me an idea for my next birthday party-- am I to assume you’re out here for some much needed fresh air or are you up to something? The latter would be much more up my ally”

                               “On purpose.” Eros answered honestly and without a hint of hesitation as the vampire made his way over to Royce, a man Eros both equally loathed and loved with every fibre of his being all at once; there was more emotion swirling within his veins than that of a teenage bloody girl most days. “You know damn well I delight seeing the faces of those around you when they encounter your ever lasting mood.” without permission, usually sullen lips twitched upwards at his own jest and the camaraderie that had been shared between the two for almost a thousand years; Jesus, that thought alone could make Eros sick. A shake of his head at the other’s blatant attempt to mock how much Eros read, as though literature should be a worthy mock. “Finished the book hours ago and thought to myself, hmm, how can I piss off Royce even further than I usually do. You do consume my thoughts, after all.”

            “I’ll have you know that I’m in a wonderful mood this evening; just saving all my conversations for you, brother” he was in fact telling the truth. He rarely enjoyed anyone else’s time and that was on one of his good days. The relationship between himself and Eros was strained at best, something he wished every day of his life that it wasn’t. “If I’m being honest I didn’t think you’d make it tonight; perhaps we shouldn’t have even come. Only time will tell if it was a good idea or not. Shall we dance?” His idea of a joke, one that made the corners of his mouth twitch ever so lightly in the direction of Eros, drink still firmly laced between his fingers while his other fingers housed yet another cigarette.

Royce was born into a very large family of hunters. Being the oldest of five other siblings he was always a family man. 

His family were well known landowners which brought them a lot of wealth, so money never being a problem in his big family. It also pushed Royce in the right direction to make something of himself, keep his families name going and their pockets full.

Royce took up a side business with the help of his father. A respectful Tavern where the rich and wealthy men could escape their nagging wives and have a little fun. Pull back the curtain a little more and there was also sex, drugs and gambling going on, the real money maker as Royce would call it.

Being a hunter back then with no real safe place was hard. Royce lost one of his siblings to a vampire attack, which they retaliated with success but not without more consequences. His business was burned to the ground which fueled an even deeper rage, thus Royce and his family decided to seek their own revenge.

Hunted down the vampires and found Eros among them, an eighteen year old boy who seemed to be some sort of prisoner. Without hesitation they took him in as their own and he became part of their family, even taking their last name. 

Along the way he met Lilith, a mysteriously beautiful woman who wormed her way into the heart of Royce, but not before she also opened hers up to him and the pair fell in love. Royce finding out she was a vampire only confused him. He’d only known vampires to be creatures of the night and death to anyone. Yet Lilith made him laugh and the two became so madly in love that Royce couldn’t imagine not being with her forever.

After he proposed to her and she said yes, he asked her to turn him and so she did.

Royce tried so hard to show his family that being a vampire wasn’t exactly a bad thing, that he was still Royce and that he loved them all very much despite the roaring hunger that burned within. But his family cast him out, the looks on their faces still burned into his mind today.

Just when Royce thought he could move on and start his new life with Lilith, his family came after them and killed her right in front of him. He thought they’d end him too so he could be with her in the afterlife but they left him to live his life alone, stating that was enough punishment for what he did.

It was only a matter of days after her death that the anger had risen to such a point all Royce could see or even smell was blood. The thought of his face being the last one his father would ever see was enough to push Royce over the edge and hunt his family down.

He found them walking home one night and without even a second thought he attacked, killed his father so quick he wasn’t even sure his father knew what happened. But he didn’t stop there, the blood rage took over and one by one he took out his mother and the rest of his siblings, Eros last. It wasn’t until he heard a shallow breathing that he noticed Eros was still alive. Noticing what he’d done, the lives of the people he loved the most taken by his own hands, he couldn’t handle it. He turned Eros.

Royce spent years in a deep dark place, fucking and killing anything that moved. Too many close calls with hunters that soon he and Eros moved to the island to start fresh and begin to build some sort of life for themselves.
