Batter's default expression reads more as boredom than sternness. This here's the face of a man who's pretty sure he's seen it all; a man who values very little and enjoys even less. Although he doesn't mean to insult anyone, that dead-eyed, disinterested look can come across as a little condescending.
He's capable of producing other expressions, of course, but it takes some effort to catch his attention.
Of Coasters and Candy Floss.
Sugar withdraws his face from the candy and lowers it to the level of their chests.
“Yeah, a drink. You’re supposed to drink it.” The boy’s fingers twitch and his palm grows weighty atop the man’s pinstriped knee as he shifts even further forward and looks inquisitively down on the other, naught but inches between them.
“Whoever’s staring is probably doing it because you won’t just eat this with me like a normal person.”
{You grunt, vaguely irritated, but mostly embarrassed. Any closer and he's going to bump your hat off.}
This is 'normal'? I don't think...
{Here, your words taper into silence. You doubt he'll let up until you comply, though, so you nudge his hand upwards and swallow a sigh.}
...Okay. Fine.

“Then I suppose congratulations are in order, dear Batter.” There was an actual pleased sound to its tone. It was still rewarding for the fallen player to know that a successful mission had been carried out. Even though it wasn’t the most pleasant of endings, it was still an ending completed to perfection. They always brought a feeling of pride to the Corrupted, though it didn’t quite know why.
“May I be so bold as to inquire what you might be doing know that your story is over?”
{You pause.}
...I don't know. Continue to purify wandering souls, likely.
I don't intend to interfere with other Batters' files and encroach on their Puppeteers' duties.
{Another pause.}

She offers him coffee. She offers him coffee. “I see. I think they may already have all gone home by now, but you can stay the night and find them tomorrow morning. Would you like me to get you some coffee?”
Hearing those words from a woman who has willingly broken from her script makes you internally flinch. You aren't exactly sure why, but you have a suspicion, and that alone grates at your pride.
You shan't dwell on this any longer.
"Thanks. And... and I'll stay the night." You nod at her, and the edge of suspicion fades from your voice. "I'll leave as soon as I find an active merchant. It's not my place to inconvenience you."

“Naturally. You aimed a bat at her head.” She sighs, gesturing for him to come closer. “Why are you even here? Is there something you seek? If I can help you make your travel easier, just tell me.”
You approach her when she beckons. How peculiar... she isn't quite so identical to your 'wife' as you first thought. The other Batters you've met don't look exactly like you, however, so perhaps you should have already arrived at this conclusion.
"I thought I'd find a merchant here," you say, 'failing' to add that you'd only decided to search for a Zacharie when you realized you were hopelessly lost. "I'm restocking."

This Eloha and yours might not share many traits, but that acidic stare they certainly do. Reflexively, you square your posture— but that is all, as this Queen isn’t yours to aggrieve.
“As you like. I bear you no ill will. That duty stands to another.”
Attempting to underscore your civility, you open your arms as if to remind her you’ve unequipped your weapon. A moment’s silence, then:
“I… I apologize. You are not my Queen, and your history isn’t mine to unearth. Excuse my prying.”
In her opinion nobody had to bear her any ill will for she had done nothing wrong… Yet she understands he will not harm her. “It is alright. I fail to understand why you dislike me so, however… I never intended to hurt you.”
You tilt your head, and your eyes are just visible enough to betray your confusion. Something like innocence colours your expression, before the tensions settles in again.
"I don't dislike you. We are not of the same world; I'd be unjust to feel anything but ambivalence towards you. It is your ideals -- those common to all Queens -- that I find distasteful."
Another pause.
"All right. Forgive my earlier hostility. My own Queen was far less inclined towards civility, in the end."
Not that you expected otherwise.

You’re puzzled, and it shows. You don’t like that at all.
“His actions were necessary, of course, but I find it difficult to believe that you bear him no grudge.”
You know that your Eloha certainly would have, but then again, she was created to stand by her ideals. This autonomous Queen before you baffles you with her deviation from her script.
“Your nostalgia is…”
You taper off and shake your head, lacking an appropriate description. You oughtn’t be so confused. This bothers you immensely.
“Are you here to mock me? Or kill me again?” She stared at him, her eyes boring into his skull. “Necessary.” She spat. “Yes, I’m sure.” She turned away once more. “This subject pains me, Batter. I would appreciate it if we spoke of it no longer.”

The Queen knew it would be fruitless to ask about her strange, two-dimensional alternate. It wasn’t out of fear of making the Batter uncomfortable, simply that she could tell he didn’t have much to say.
“Why, of course. He had it every morning and every afternoon after a day of hard work…” She looked away, eyes fixed on nothing.
“You miss the man who slew you.”
Your flat, hushed voice transforms the question into an observation, but perhaps it is not so misplaced. Your own eyes narrow beneath the shadow of your cap.
“Why?”
“Because we loved each other.” She replies with a shrug. “Perhaps you and your queen did not, but we did for sure.”

Sugar shakes his head abruptly.
“If you touch it with your hands, they’ll get sticky.” The boy ceases speaking in favor of rearranging himself where he sits. He pulls his knees up onto the bench so that his tattered white sneakers dangle from the seat and straightens up so that rather than facing in the proper direction he’s faced with the other man’s side.
He raises the sweet cotton between them and leans forward, one hand granting him balance where it’s palm-flat on the Batter’s knee. Sugar parts his lips and bares just the tips of his teeth, pausing a hair’s breadth from the candy and then staring expectantly into the other man’s face.
He means for them to share it like lovers.
{The intensity about that look brings a hint of colour to your otherwise chalky skin.}
You gave me a drink. I'll rinse my fingers off with that.

{A nearby cluster of Elsen, themselves enjoying a light snack, are looking your way with curiosity. They likely can't tell you're watching them back, considering you haven't quite turned your head and your eyes are obscured by the shadow cast by your cap.}

“That is just. You have a level headed mind, I appreciate that.” Her eyes are locked with his the entire time. She offers an occasional half-smile, but overall she’s too lost in his words. At the question, she stops pacing.
“…Ah, I see. Well… I was under the impression that the Batters were the coffee and the Queens were the tea. It is so in my case, anyhow. I’m more of a tea person.”
"Tea? Hm."
You can't remember if your Eloha liked tea. You can't remember much about her now, but you suppose that's the nature of dreams, be they living or otherwise.
"Okay. I prefer coffee, yes. Did he?"

Perhaps not, but then again not many people missed it when it happened. You must not have been present when the event had taken place- we must say it was amusing. Sans the stuttering? I could see it happening... But when an Elsen dies, what do you think they become dear Batter? They are friendly because they have not existed in this form for very long, after a while of loneliness I can imagine anything would become corrupt, no?

{You look upon the spectres with newfound interest. Perhaps their creation isn't so linked to this file's Queen as the spectres in your world were to her.}

They're... all right... with these Elsen personalities. Almost a shame they won't last.
The Spectres shall sleep should their comfort be great enough, or in other words, if they are happy and tired enough, they will sleep on you. However, they won't sleep on you, since you need to move some time today as your quest for purity may have been hindered slightly... It is almost a shame that they were unable to treat you to such pleasures as they have done to your counterpart, but not truly a loss <3

I doubt I will get tired of this Batter, seeing you so flushed and dare I say, embarrassed, yet trying so hard to keep your pride is one of the most amusing things we've seen all week. The Spectres giggle in favour for their masters words, and they continue to cuddle into the Batter, how they would love to make him theirs and yet cannot... This does not matter, for they are warm and comfortable and they dearly hope that you do not mind them using you as a sort-of pillow~<3
I don't think it matters to you whether I mind or not.
{You eye the Grey Face's ghosts warily. Something tells you that the Grey's getting a kick out of making you squirm, more than actually controlling their spectral thralls.}

“I see- it seems in that regard we are not all that different. Creating comes easily to me,but at a cost.” She slowly walks around the Batter, picking up on the sigh ever so slightly but making no comment on it.
“So you are… Created by a child, I assume. Mother and father, destined to work together- but it failed. I feel bad for the boy… Oh, well… I suppose I am! I am glad you do not see me as a wretched figure.”
"I can't pass judgement on a Queen who isn't mine, let alone one who was born of entirely different circumstances."
You follow her with your eyes as she circles you, only allowing her to slip from your sight when her pacing takes her behind you. When she reappears, you're watching her again.
"...Do you like coffee?"
You pause. That was... spontaneous. You clarify;
"I wonder if you share some of her more superficial traits."
