Before you all unfollow me... Fia’s a drama queen. No details, just watch your backs with her.

Grace snorted. “Oh, boy,” she sighed, brushing her hair away from her neck to let the cool air in the living room drift over her skin. She began to count them on her fingers. “Lots of drugs, petty theft, might have pissed in the street a few times… Vandalising and shit. Just small things, but they pile up. Makes getting a job insanely difficult.”
“I don’t see why committing any of those crimes should screw someone over, even adding them up. Those are all things that most sane people will do in their lifetimes, apart from maybe the pissing in the street, but I think everybody gets at least one time in their lives they get to just be weird.”
“You ask me, breaking minor crimes should be a law in figuring out if someone is fun to be around, or lame as hell.”
“What’s the worst thing your parents did to you?”

“That’s so-so cool,” he grinned at the thought. Although he had to admit, while it sounded fun, in theory, he’d probably find it would be his worst nightmare in practice. He absolutely hated being the centre of anyone’s attention, nevermind a crowd of people.
“Thank you,” he smiled, looking at the magic show, beginning to observe the performance. “Have you been to– to one of these festivals- before?”
“I haven’t, actually. This is the kind of thing that could make someone what to stay in a place like this. It has a charm to it. Everybody agrees to give up their social climbing, or their constant bickering, put down the remote to the boob toob, and agree to have fun. It’s a nice distraction from real life... but it isn’t.”
Colt cast Bertie a quick smile. He didn’t know why, but this kid reminded him of the better parts of himself. This was the sort of kid he might have marked as an easy job on any other night. Yet, he found himself just hanging out with him. Someone he didn’t have to hide his geekier side from. Made it really easy to relax. Hiding a part of yourself was always so exhausting.
“Sorry, I don’t mean to bring down the mood.”

trevor-lloyd :
“Trevor loved down time. The time he could play with his dog and relax around his house. He turned on Life Below Zero on Netflix and lit up a cigarette. Stepping into the kitchen, carrying a glass of whiskey with him. He listened to the t.v. and poked around in his fridge, looking for something good to eat. While he watched the show he fantasized about living in Alaska himself. Off the land. Hunting his own food and building his own home. Surviving, and thriving at it. He could change all his money in for equipment. Give it all up. Killian, Grace, and Frankie flashed in his mind. He has friends now. People who relied on him. People who cared if he disappeared. How he had that now after all this time he couldn’t explain it. For the longest time, he was a nothing that nobody wanted, and Killian was family, and to was Blake. Grace was his closest friend even though they barely knew anything about each other, and Frankie…something about Frankie made his head spin like a top.
“Killian you want something to eat? I’m gonna make London Broil. I started marinading yes…ter…day? He pulled the meat out and was obviously unsure of it, but willing to risk it. Opening up the bowl it was in and sniffing it. He glanced down at Rampage at his feet. "You want some London Broil to don’t you?” Rampage barked back and Trevor laughed “I’ll take that as a yes.”
He started pulling out stuff for a salad as well and looked around, setiing the stuff on the counter. ‘Killian?“ He glanced back down at Trevor. "Where did he go, boy?” He shrugged and took a big sig of his whiskey.
Killian found himself out of sorts. He spent the day training, having a clear schedule as a trainer, and still waiting for his ring. A lot of his small equipment, though, had made it’s way to the gym. He had set up some of it, It ended up filling a relatively small space in the gym. When he had finished setting it all up, he started his training day.
It wasn’t until nearly the end of a three hour session that he noticed Colt was sharing his space in the gym. When Colt took off, he waited a beat and abandoned his workout to go ask the man directly what he was spying on him and his brother for.
He spotted Colt leaving through the exit from the opposite end of the locker room. After taking a large breath and exhaling slowly, he began to twitch with his hands, and then he was stalking forward, a predator following the trail of his prey.
Kilian blasted open the exit door.
“Hey! Long tim no see? Yer the one what sicked them weak-ass thugs on me, yeah?”
“Fuck it, I’m not staying here. I’ve got my mil. I think I might spend a few months in Tijuana. Dimtri can eat it, for once. Stay for what? To get attacked by that guerrilla? No thank you. Just take my money and run, that’d be the smart thing to do.” He stopped, stared down at his duffle bag and shook his head.
Colt flicked his cigarette just in time to hear the a bang. He turned in time to see Killian moving on him fast. There it was, that shiver up his spine. Everything in his nervous system screaming that he was in danger. It was just like with Trevor and Dimitri.
Colt hopped back a step and pulled knife out of his jacket. It was a straight, double edge piece. “Listen, no reason for this to escalate. I did that, yeah. Figured if you were as tough as I thought you were, that you’d be okay. And look at you. Think my guys got it worse.”
gracieceleste :
Grace mirrored the expression on Colt’s features as they stretched into a smile, amused by the surprise that had initially passed over them. She took another sip from her water. “Cobalt blue,” the woman repeated with a nod, failing to picture the shade. It was safe to say that she didn’t know her colours.
“Well, it’s only fair you get to ask me three Q’s. Go on.”
“Three questions...” Colt nodded and took his time thinking about what he might ask her. In all honesty, he wasn’t sure what he might ask.
“Alright. What crimes have you committed in your life, if any?” Well, it might have been a bit of a generic question, but it’s exactly what a career criminal like Colt would want to know about another person.

“Penn and Teller?” Bertie widened his eyes a little as he continued to follow after Colt, excitedly smiling at him. “I imagine it was amazing. How did you get to fo that?”
Bertie considered the question for a moment. Aside from being asked to help a clown on an 8th birthday party which had ended with him crying, no. he decided not to mention the clown. “No.”
“It’s a long story, really. I got picked, mostly, because I was the only person standing. I came in late, and there weren’t any empty seats. Just happened to walk in right after they asked for an assistant, and Penn called me up. It was amazing... super scary, but very fun.”
[[Please ignore subtiltes - I know... I’m sorry.]]
“Well, that’s too bad. Maybe some day you’ll get a chance. Oh, here he is.” He pointed a little ways ahead. The magic show was still going on.
sarah-norcross :
“Hrm… I think you gotta prolly explain to my drunk ass what, like, an ‘ace guy’ is… I’m guessing it means ‘stellar’, like, you’re a ‘stellar guy’, with, like… a tad less hyperbole… or something.”
Though her drink had been hovering around her mouth the entire time she spoke, Sarah didn’t actually take a swig of it; it simply occupied one of her hands as she held it, waving it about with the hand gestures that accompanied her words when she talked, which were becoming slightly more exaggerated with each subsequent drink she had. Her smile was still wide; in fact, everything about Sarah’s whole demeanor exuded how great her mood was, despite the way her posture hunched when she wasn’t speaking, which wasn’t Sarah folding in on herself nervously, (which she did have a tendency to do when she was in the opposite mood), but indicated, rather, that she was relaxed, and slouching in a chill state.
“Cole - that’s ‘cute’… bro, I have a sister named Chastity. Fucking. Chastity. Can you imagine?!
Sarah took a long look at her Miller Light bottle. “I think this is my fifth… I think.” As if the bottle she held had said something funny’, Sarah giggled, seemingly at it. “You’re a little bigger than me… a little…” Considering Sarah’s slight 5′1″, frame weighing in at 115 on a ‘heavy’ day, undercutting their difference in size while she was pointing it out was an obvious dorky drunk joke. At least Sarah was getting a kick out of it, which kept her smiling and giggling. “Imma guess 4 and a half more for you, depending on what other shit you poisoned yourself with this evening.”
“An ‘ace guy’ is just a guy who’s kind of cool and generally good company.” Colt smiled over his glass right before downing the rest. He squeezed his eyelids closed, shuddered, and blew a sigh out of his mouth after the drink. “God, you never really get used to that.”
“Not Cole, Colt.” He turned from Sarah and caught the bartender’s attention as he passed. “And I guess that means I’ll take two Jaeger Bombs, two shots of Bacardi 151, two bottles of Redd’s, and two bottles of water please.” He turned back to Sarah. “I think that’ll just about do the trick, wha’do’think?”
gracieceleste :
It was all incredibly heavy, much heavier than Grace had anticipated. She tended to undermine things for the sake of apathy, of not involving herself too much so that she could save her own ass. This time, she’d gone in too deep. With a few slow nods, the woman raked her long, blonde locks out of the way and heaved a heavy breath. It was tempting to test the name Silas out on Trevor, but, at the same time… Grace didn’t want to risk their friendship for mere curiosity.
“Alright…” She began, cheeks puffing out when she let out a long exhale. “Last one… What’s your favourite colour?”
Colt was taken aback, at first, when she asked her last question, but after the initial stun wore off, he couldn’t help but smile. It was definitely a question out of left-field. Maybe she’d just gotten more from the answer to her previous one than she wanted.
After he finally gathered himself, ee leaned back on the sofa, and shrugged. “My favorite color is cobalt blue.”
gracieceleste :
She didn’t blink once during the explanation, her features completely blank, void of emotion. Despite the outer shell, Grace was incredibly confused on the inside. What Colt was explaining sounded like something out of a Guy Ritchie film, when they were actually good.
Slowly, she nodded, assimilating the information- which, come to think of it, wasn’t too detailed. Grace wasn’t sure whether or not she liked that. “What info do you have on your boss’ brother?” She asked, wording her question carefully so that she could squeeze as much out of Colt as possible. After all, if Trevor Lloyd was, in fact, a pseudonym, the woman wanted to know what kind of shit she was getting mixed up in, given the fact that he was her best friend in the town.
Trevor nodded and thought about the question for a minute. “I have his original name: Silas Eberhart. I have a picture of him from when he was much younger. He’d be 32 now, but the last picture of Silas Eberhart is from 14 years ago. I can guess what he may look like now, but no picture. I know some of the pseudonyms he’s used throughout the years. We had his childhood friend watched and he met with a guy. They had some strange, but not ‘smoking gun’ style interactions. There was some kind of incident and both Jon and the other guy disappeared. We’ve been having a hard time tracking the other guy, but we finally found him here.”
“He killed his abusive father right before he began his nomadic lifestyle, where he bounced from pseudonym to pseudonym, leaving a trail of bodies in his wake. If he’s the person I suspect, though, it means that he hasn’t killed anybody in quite a long time.”
gracieceleste :
He was nervous. Or, rather, he looked it, and Grace couldn’t help but feel a sense of dryness in her mouth, as though the tension that was seeping into the room was burning the moisture from her body. She took another sip of water and shifted to make herself more comfortable.
“Right… Yeah. Sure. Sounds fair to me. First one: what are you actually doing in Devil’s Point? I get the whole–” she waved her hand dismissively, “quiet town charm thing, but I don’t buy that that’s the whole thing.”
Colt leaned forward, his elbows on his knees, and listened to her question. “I’m looking for my boss’s brother to recruit him. Unfortunately, he’s using a fake name. I’ve been trying to get him to slip up. But, there’s always the possibility that the trail I took could have been a false one, and I may be antagonizing a man for no reason at all.”
Could be that this was a terrible idea. Still, he decided to go ahead and give her the three questions, so he may as well answer them honestly.
Colt’s cigarette brand.
Sh*t Happens
Colt eased himself off of the roman chair, where he’d just finished his workout with a burnout of roman chair sit ups/crunches. He wiped down the apparatus with his towel and headed to the locker room. It was near closing time, so the locker room was completely empty.
His phone buzzed in his pocket, and he answered. “Yeah... Yeah, I called because there’s been an interesting development, Killian showed up in Devil’s Point... What do you mean you know? Then why didn’t you tell me before now? So then we know it’s our guy, yes?”
Colt listened for a moment. “Alright, so just stand by and await further orders? Alright...” He hung his phone up and let out a dissatisfied sigh.
After his shower, he found himself staring at the duffle bag in front of him. Things had felt off for the whole job. His one million was already deposited in his account, but Dimitri wanted him to stay. On top of that, if Dimitri had really had Killian followed, he would have been able to guess that he was headed to Devil’s Point. Colt didn’t like being kept in the dark like this.
Colt looked up, surprised that he was standing outside. He must have been on autopilot while he was thinking.
“God,” he said into the night air, “I really need a cigarette.” He unzipped the side of his duffle-bag and pulled out a black cigarette pack with a skull and crossbones pictured over the word death. He quickly lit up and took a drag, the smoke exiting his lungs bringing a sudden wave of relaxation over him.

“I hope you know that I’m doing everything I can to not ask what your job is.” George stated both lightheartedly but also genuinely, his curiosity over the others’ job weighing on him. However, he was working on respecting privacy, and it didn’t seem like Colt had any desire to open up about the specifics about his profession. Maybe if the talked more, gave it time, but he wasn’t trying to rush it.
“That is a tricky situation, though. If I knew exactly what you meant by pulling them out of hiding I might have recommendations, but either way, it’s hard to make someone who knows they have to be cautious step over a line they know about. Maybe if you could recruit help, someone who was under the radar to whoever you’re watching? Not sure, but it sounds like doubling up wouldn’t be the worst idea, given the context.”
Colt smiled, and shook his head. “Sorry.” He chugged the drink in front of him and stood up, leaving a decent tip on the table. “Unfortunately, it’s not up to be to recruit, and if I got you involved, I doubt you’d last with my cast of coworkers. Thank you for listening, and for the advice, but I’m afraid it’s time we part ways.” He gave George a warning glance, though not threatening.
He threw on his jacket and headed out the door.

Bertie waited patiently for Colt to suggest something for him to do and, at the sound of magic, however, his eyes lightened a little with excitement. He hadn’t seen a good magic show in quite some time.
“I l-love magic!” he smiled, looking around in search for the said person that performed the show. “W-would you show me, uhm, where they are?” He supposed he could go looking for it on his own but, then again, he didn’t want to be away from the stall for too long and if the man knew where to go, he’d appreciate the directions.
Colt raised his eyebrows and nodded a few times. “Alright, alright. It’s this way, actually.” He turned and nodded for the kid to follow. “You know, I once got to be the audience participant in a Penn & Teller show. It was the most fun I’ve ever had.”

George shook his head before the other was even done apologizing, waving it off with his hand by his side. “No need to apologize whatsoever, but that is a really shitty situation. Does your boss have any specific time limit for you to find him?” He was trying to determine whether Colt was the good guy or the bad guy in the situation, but in actuality, he didn’t care too much. The man was nice to him, and he obviously had his reasons, so George had no right to judge a man doing what it took to survive, especially if it was causing so much mental strain. “Also, does the person know you’re watching them? Obviously they’re wary, but if they know you’re on their trail, it’d make it more imperative to hide themselves from you.”
“They know. I’m particularly good at this kind of job. I’m less of a private eye, more of a stealth man. This is all too... messy for me. Yeah, my boss is just being unusually impatient. I know the guy is about ready to reveal himself, but my boss is antsy. It’s not really like him, usually he’s really cool and collected. Calm, no matter what. I can’t even imagine why this is so important.”
[[please ignore subtitles]]
Colt waited for a minute before answering Geroge’s second question.
“Yeah, he knows I’m watching him. Like I said, I’m not good at flushing people out of hiding. It’s not my... forte.”
gracieceleste :
Grace noted how swiftly he’d pounced onto the cop subject. It was the fastest route away from her question about what Colt did for a living, but she wasn’t about to let it go.
“So… You’re some sort of mob gangster man. Or a hitman. Or… A super-spy… Who has… Russian… Buddies.” Grace finished her sentence with a quirked brow and narrowed eyes, trying to at least make the whole 20 questions thing a little funny.
Colt sat there for a minute. He crossed his legs, watching Grace, deep in thought. His foot, hanging over his other leg, bounced up and down as he looked at her. After a moment, he uncrossed his legs, and leaned forward, looking down at the spot between his feet.
“Alright, how about this? I’ll let you ask any three questions you want to ask me, and I’ll answer them with a hundred percent honesty. One rule, though, you can’t outright ask me what I do. Any other question’s fair game. Sound good?”
gracieceleste :
“What was it?” She asked, deciding to prod Colt just a little bit. A teensy bit couldn’t hurt. Surely.
Despite the fact that her father had taken her to shooting practice a pathetic total of three times, Grace was not a fan of guns. Hence the small number. They were loud, detached and overcompensated for a toxic, repressed state of masculinity that had ended up driving her father gun-crazy. His collection had been disturbing; after a few years, Grace’s mother had forced him to sell it, threatening him with divorce. They’d made a shitton, at least. “Sounds… Messy. So you work with guns. Not a cop. You don’t look like a cop.”
“Don’t I, though? You don’t think I could pass for a cop?” He shook his head. “Probably not. No, I’m not a cop. And... yes, I do work with guns.” He wondered if she’d even believe the truth, if he told her. As he pondered, he finished off his drink.
“I’m pretty far from a cop, actually. On the other side of the spectrum, really.” He realized, after he spoke, that he had let too much slip. Maybe I’m over-thinking. There are a lot of things that are ‘pretty far from a cop.’
