Look at Rhodey. Look at that asshole. Look at him suuper casually curling his fist across his mouth. “Can you believe this guy?” His eyes try to say. “Can’t take anything seriously, so disrespectful, and I for one am so over his shenanigans.”
Motherfucker no one is fooled. There’s only one reason people purse their lips and jam they fist all up in their face; You are about fifteen seconds from busting a gut laughing in the middle of a Very Serious Senate Hearing about National Security. The thing you want most in the world at this moment is to high five your best bro and shout “BUUUUUUUUUUUUUURN” at the top of your lungs for the epically beautiful take down you just witnessed. You know it, I know it, Tony sure as FUCK knows it, and I literally have no idea how you are keeping it together right now, goddamn.
Well, you are 100% correct:
Tony Stark Avengers (2023) #17
morons. idiots, even
guy who has been dealing with this for a quarter of a century and counting
I LOVE THEM,
Thinking about all the subtle irondad canon in MCU.
The ease Peter used Stark tech to make his suit in FFH meaning he's likely spent time in Tony's lab
All the types of Spider-suits in the data base implying Tony had been working on tons of Spider-Man gadgets and suits for Peter
Peter has been an Iron Man fan since he was at least 8 years old
Tony lent Peter a car to take his driver's test (from a car commercial)
Tony actually listens to all the unimportant details of Peter's life (and remembers them) such as getting a churro on patrol and when he quit band practice
Tony to Happy about his party: "did you invite the kid? Why do you hate fun, I like the kid I want you to invite the kid" (from another commercial)
Tony thinks of himself as a father figure to Peter ("my dad never really gave me a lot of support and I'm just trying to break the cycle of shame")
Peter being Tony's favourite young adult
Peter is affectionately referred to as 'the kid' so often that everyone knows exactly who Tony is talking about (e.g. Steve, Happy)
Tony keeping a photo of Peter in his home after his death (for longer than he actually knew Peter)
Tony not wanting to mess with time travel because he valued a peaceful life with Pepper and Morgan over half the universe's population, only to change his mind at the thought of bringing Peter back
Tony survives! Anything But “Mr Stark” Pt. 2 :3
Tony survives! Anything But “Mr Stark” Pt. 1
Tony has been told his whole life that he’s selfish, narcissistic, not the type of person to lay down on the wire to let another person cross, not worthy of being a hero, nothing without his suit, overall a ‘bad person’. I think it would mean the world if someone he thought highly of (Peter) (the epitome of pure intentions, integrity, and love) was certain he was good too.
I wouldn’t think Tony’s usually told that he’s good. I think he would know it partly, because he’s not an idiot; he KNOWS he’s done good, but he would think he has done just as much bad. Realistically, I think a sentence with the words ‘you’ and ‘a good person’ is something he needs to hear.
Irondad just wanted a hug in the morning! + cute irondadoodles hehehehehe
I always feel like Tony is almost never treated as smart as he actually is in bother fandom and fics??? I'm not even talking about being oblivious more about simple things like being able to calculate nos ridiculously high in his head, out of the box thinking etc
one of the most delightful challenges in the world is writing a character who is much, much more intelligent than you. it’s so fun! but also takes effort the same way any other characterization work does, coming up with all the day-to-day consequences of tony being a genius that are so pedestrian to him they don’t even register.
i’m going to take this moment as an excuse to throw out more smart!tony headcanons:
can identify materials by touch; touches everything, actually, tapping and bending them to figure out if it’s ABS or nylon and is there glass fiber in there? will pick up your retro walkman and be like “what is this made of” and if he can’t work it out WILL pull out a multitool, scrape a sliver of plastic off of a nondescript spot, and burn it with a lighter so he can sniff the smoke and figure it out that way. it’s rude, and also a pretty sure-fire way to notice alien tech.
in that vein, a FANTASTIC mold-maker. he’s constantly prototyping parts and then casting them into exotic alloys, which means he can look at basically any object and split it into smooth planes with no overhangs.
hand tony stark a chunk of machinery and he’ll be able to tell you how it was manufactured, which bits were done first, and how worn out the bits were when they milled out the middle and if the guy chamfering the edges was lazy or not. again, put a piece of alien tech in tony’s hands and he’s going to notice because he is always, always asking “how did they make that” and if the answer is “not on earth” it’s going to be obvious
eyeballs measurements with creepy accuracy. and not just length: angle, volume, temperature, decibels, area, velocity, duration -- all of it. from very large scale to very small, tony’s “ish” guesstimate is way, way closer than you expect
strikingly adept at order of operations. you know how sometimes you find yourself curled into a pretzel trying to squeeze a paintbrush into some weird corner of the thing you’re making you’re like “i wish i had thought to paint this BEFORE i glued it”? that doesn’t happen to tony.
reads FAST. no, faster than that. can read upside-down or mirrored text just as quickly. can read aloud from things written in relatively simple ciphers as a party trick.
fantastic intuition for which corners can be cut, and what needs extra failsafes. still discharges capacitors by putting his thumb over them though. obviously always errs on the side of cutting corners to make things smaller, faster, better, sleeker.
i can’t emphasize enough how much tony knows what’s inside every device around him. it’s how he built iron man out of a box of scraps -- encyclopedic knowledge of what he could get by taking apart all those missiles, and what he could turn it into.
looks at the world in terms of both intended use cases (you are meant to put toast in the toaster) and unintended use cases (if you cut some wires and filled the toaster with water you could probably make an electrolysis chamber to create hydrogen and oxygen). frequently applies unintended use cases to thigs like “your security system” and “household cleaning products”
i could go on, this is the most delightful game

I mean, seriously. Did you just see him disarm - heh - The Winter freakin Soldier in a single gauntlet and a damn three piece suit? And the little smirk when he takes the gun apart?
I definitely headcanon that Winter would remember this moment with a grudging awe. And maybe some feelings in his pants.
Tony Stark is BAMF in and out of the armor.
I love this scene. Those moves were so slick! The WS has dropped agents by the bunch, and a three piece suit asigned as non combatant disarms him (and delays him about as much as a former Red Room graduate).
Very nice reminder that Tony know his guns, and is far from helpless out of armor
Things I love about this gifset:
Tony Stark hop-skipping into an “I-brought-a-three-piece-suit-and-a-coolio-watch-to-a-gunfight” confrontation with the Winter Soldier
Tony Stark: The Smirk™
Tony Stark in general, love me the whole-ass man–
My favorite part of this bit?
Tony knows so very well that he isn’t a match in strength to this guy so instead of straight up hand to hand he goes after him like Nat, but he lacks her flexibility and combat prowess so he can’t confront him head on like her either.
So tony uses buckys own momentum against him, pivoting his arm in arcs back and forth to disperse any forward thrust Bucky could get to throw him immediately. He creates his own openings to get in buckys personal space by keeping his arm straight at the elbow to push it out of his way at the shoulder letting him past buckys deadly hands. Obviously this doesn’t last but its a really good snippet of tonys serious actual martial arts training (you can really see this in those gifs of rdj practicing wing chun with his trainer on the wooden standees)
It has been like almost 11 years and I still can’t get over that one that scene in iron man 1 where tony has the gauntlet on in his workshop and catches his reflection in the glass and just fucking obliterates it. it is like the single most poignant expression of self-loathing i’ve ever seen on camera
Love You 3000🌌
tony stark spent his entire adult life under the guidance of someone who not only would (and did) try to have him killed, but was also fine with him not dying quickly and being tortured for three whole months if it meant he would bring home a single new piece of technology
tony came back home from captivity and sat down in front of dozens of reporters and turned to this man, specifically, to tell him that it was really good to see him again BOY i’m very fucked up over this like there was a post-captivity period there where tony didn’t know stane had screwed him over and this guy was there wrapping his arm around tony’s shoulders and sitting on his couch and playing his piano and publicly speaking on his behalf!! that is a LOT
there’s an IM1 BTS video that shows rdj, jeff bridges, and jon favreau discussing the post-gala scene where stane reveals he’d been double-dealing/trying to push tony out of the company. and at some point, they discussed the possibility of tony getting more confrontational until stane gets him to back down by slapping him. across the face. publicly. in front of the cameras. to humiliate him. in the end they settle for stane speaking to tony like he would speak to a child
it’s so MUCH haha!! it’s A LOT!
you know what’s even MORE than that!!
tony trusting the avengers enough to finance them and design their gear despite having had his entire relationship with himself redefined by his guilt over SI’s weapons manufacturing
tony designing safety equipment for random kids he meets/sees on youtube
tony taking in wanda maximoff even after she tries to use him to destroy the avengers, and then attempting to politically protect her after the events in lagos
tony publicly sharing one of his most intimate moments of regret on a stage as he demonstrates mental health research he’s been funding
in IM1 he calls this “naivety” — thinking he can tell when stane is pulling a “lousy poker face” while unknowingly falling for it, the genuine surprise he expressed when realizing terrorists had his guns, falling for natasha’s double-agenting mere six months after stane, being surprised and hurt when he finds out steve had been lying to him hours after natasha lies to him and lets steve go and tony has to bear the consequences of it — and like, even if it is naivety, it’s also just. tony surpassing and generally being So Much Better than his circumstances, and still being willing to give people the benefit of the doubt and just!!!! he’s a great guy all right
this is what peter meant when ge said “wherever i go, i see his face”
killing obadiah stane with my mind
killing him! with my mind killing him
wow this really is his patented designated Intimidation Move huh
KILLING HIM WITH MY MIND IS NO LONGER ENOUGH
