" A lot of people actually... " Airin narrows his gaze, looking them up and down. " You must be the no-show, yeah? We do have a back door for performers, but– " He stands up fully out of his shitty stool-chair, and waves Sangria to follow.

" I can guide ya' in. People might recognize you, so it's best if I stick around til' you're in the green room. "

"No-show--?!" Sangria huffs, lip curling upward. "I'll have you know I have some bastard chasing me halfway across the city!"

The sound of feet hitting concrete makes them turn around, fear striking their heart. That rabid fan finally caught up.

"Shit--Okay whatever you do, don't let that guy in, no matter what he says."

They rush to follow the bouncer, hoping to avoid the fan's line of sight.

he nods, glancing over at shauna finally. it's a slightly intense look, but it gives an air of not being unusual for them; they handle most things with a silent intensity, as clear by their sudden departure and return with reading material.

"that's a good idea," despite his flat affect, there's a clear genuineness to the statement. "and even among boss monster SOULs, there's a difference. some are colored differently and act different even from each other." it was something that always fascinated them; yellows and blues, purples and oranges -- were there red boss monster SOULs? he had thought about it a lot.

"oh, um -- how do you want to, uh... go about it? organizing, i mean." they wanted her input as well; he felt as though he was overwhelming, and from talks with azzy and mom, he knew that dominating a conversation was a bit of an issue of his. "do you have any ideas?"

You silently appreciated them trying to involve you. You're honestly more surprised about their genuine interest in SOULs. Your brother has something similar; a completely flat tone with nothing but passion.

Everyone always said Kris was weird, was scary... but were they right? Was Kris maybe just... different? Like you are?

"Erm - well - perhaps by type? Separate the SOULs by their traits, and then explain the different parts of them. Their differing abilities, their colors... that sort of thing!"

You stopped, and suddenly started to rifle around your bookbag. "Oh... I thought I had colored pencils in here...!"

Well. Now this was interesting.

It's a faint presence, just barely noticeable at the edges of your mind while you're in your full Composer form. You never would have noticed it otherwise. It's a faint hum in the sea of city noise, like the buzz of an old light.

It tries to... reach. It reaches toward you, calling to you, trying to sway you. 'Come to the light, my child.' 'You'll be safe and comfortable with me.' 'Just let me in.'

You flick it away with barely any effort, like swatting away a bug. Perhaps your should be more concerned about that, but whatever presence it is is far too weak to grow into any real threat.

Curious, though. Very curious.

Michael, Examine! The Snag Machine

It's your Snag Machine! It's your trusty device that allows you to snag Shadow Pokemon from other Trainers. It's designed only to work on Shadow Pokemon, so no one can use it for any other reason. Good thing, too, since there are certain people who would want to get their hands on it. Its stainless steel is scuffed, and the grooves of the wire have sand stuck in them, but otherwise you keep it pretty clean.

You wonder, sometimes, if you're doing the right thing. Of course, it's the right thing to help the Shadow Pokemon and stop Cipher, that's a no-brainer. But you think about how you're still... stealing from other Trainers. Some of them don't even know they have Shadow Pokemon. But you think of how Cipher treats the poor Pokemon, about the horrible things the Pokemon must have gone through to become how they are, and the thoughts disappear. You have to be doing the right thing.

... It hurts your heart, sometimes, to look at it for too long. You remember being seven and overhearing Prof. Krane and your father talking about their plans for a new Snag Machine and the Purification Chamber, just in case something like the Shadow Incident happens again. Krane did the designs, while your father did most of the programming. They were a good team, the people at the HQ Lab would tell you. Your father never got to see them done.

Maybe you're imagining it, but sometimes, when you're feeling your loneliest, you feel the Snag Machine weight just a bit heavier on your shoulder. Not like it was heavier itself, but more like it was being pressed gently down. As though someone had their hand on your shoulder.

This is a piece of your father that you take with you everywhere. It's seen everything that you have, been through everything you've been through.

You hope that, wherever he is, your father is proud of you.
