For some reason last night I was thinking about how much work it used to be to letter a comic book by hand and all the tools one would need...so I made this to convey just that!
My thoughts and process on creating cover blurbs.
Here’s a quick video of myself lettering a panel of Manifest Destiny and how I do things.
A variety of hand drawn sound effects by me, all done using the brushes and/or markers in Manga Studio and then imported into Illustrator. See my video also on this page on how to create these. SFX appeared in Manifest Destiny, Green Valley, and Birthright from Skybound Publishing.

When I worked on staff at Marvel the Letterers were given a book of old cover copies and logos to use as springboards and to kind of emulate the style of...here's a pic of a batch of what was in the book...some really beautiful work too!

Here’s a quick video of myself sanding down a Hunt 107 nib on some sandpaper to do some hand lettering. This is how I was taught to letter and was the preferred method of lettering by most letterers at Marvel.
